How to break a 5-month-old nursing/biter?
« on: February 01, 2014, 02:52:17 am »
Hello!
I have an almost 5 month old who is teething his first tooth and he is biting me!  I've heard horror stories about mom's who've flicked their LO's cheeks and then their LO's have refused to BF again.
I want to keep BF-ing....but I don't know how to stop him from biting?!  I try to talk to him and rub his cheek and tell him to stop, which he does, but then he goes right back and bites.  I think it's just because he's frustrated with the discomfort.  He's a textbook/angel kiddo.
Thanks!

E was doing this a bit ago...but we still havent seen any teeth! Unfortunately she startled me the first time and I yelled, but it didnt seem to deter her (I am guessing she had no clue wth mom was going on about!). She stopped doing it as suddenly as she started but I have read that when they clamp down you should pull them into the breast so that they have to open up and let go.

This worked great with both of mine

^ was coming on to give the same recommendation as above.

I stopped breast feeding on my first baby when his top 2 teeth were coming in (6 mths). His bottom teeth hadn't caused him (or me!) any issue at all. He was literally drawing blood sweat & tears from me  :'( I wish now that I had persevered through the teething.

I've been using this "smooshing" him into me on this little guy and so far - so good  :)
Best of luck with it.

Woo-hoo!! Long may this last.
Teething must be so sore for them  :'( many of us (as adults) would struggle with the pain, by all accounts.
