Routine problem or APOP?
« on: October 21, 2011, 09:11:04 am »
A is now 17 months and we have moved into a new 2 bedroom house. A is settled in very well and loves his new room with no problems going to sleep.at nap or b/times but still wakes during the night but later than what he would do if we were in the old house. He does setltle quickly but wakens up half an hr to an hr later.

Our routine yesterday went:

7:15 awake
8:15 b/fast
10:30 snack
11:30 lunch
12:45 sleep didn't settle til 13:15 2hrs
16:00 snack
18:30 dinner
20:45 b/feed and bed fell asleep 20:35

Hi there..

When he wakes, what does he do cry/babble etc? How do you respond when he does this?

Any teething going on ATM?

Hi  :) most of the time he cries but there will be times when he just moans.we do bring him in beside us and it really needs to stop its been going on far too long.

Bottom molar is on its way with a couple of other teeth. I found a fairly recent routine book and it looks like A sleeps better with a shorter A time in the morning and longer at night.

Molars in particular can cause sleep issues.....are you giving meds to help?

It could be that the waking has become a bit habitual too if he's got used to going into your bed. What times does he usually wake...is there a pattern?

We do give meds but recently not so much. He normally wakes between 11 & 2,  we wanted see how got on sleeping in his own room but its made no difference .I've thought.about putting a mattress on the floor for a few nights?

If you think it's become habitual rather than him really needing you then WI/WO or GW will help to get him back on track. You could try putting a mattress on the floor of his room then gradually move it further & further away. You need to break the association of him waking = going into your bed.

We are also in the middle of GW. I know he can go to sleep.himself and settle himself during naps.

I think I will try taking a mattress to his room. Moving it every 3 nights?

I think you need to play it by ear as to how he responds, I would maybe try moving it a little every night to see what he does, you can always move it back if necessary.

Good luck & keep us posted!  :)

Ok it didn't work last night, it must be something else. I've noticed when A sleeps well at night he sleeps for 9 hrs. So if goes to bed at around half 6 we an NW of 1 and if goes to bed at 8 he wakes around 5:30. I need to find a balance somewhere.  What do you think?

9hrs is a very low amount of sleep, is he up for the day at 4.30/5am?

Bearing in mind he is teething this won't be helping the EW's & unfortunately teething & OT do tend to go hand-in hand as LO's get more tired when teething.

What time is his nap when he wakes early?

When A wakes at 4ish he goes back to sleep but at 5:30 he refused. Nap time was supposed to be around 11:30 but refusing to go to sleep til an hr later
