Christine-It was a generic Kroger brand of cereal breakfast bar, kind of like Fruit & Grain.
Dh will be bringing Kelsey to the wedding and she'll be with us for the dinner as it is not a huge affair.  We'll feed her and leave around bedtime so that she'll hopefully fall asleep in the car (just over an hour drive!).

Joanne - such a cutie you have!   :)

Nail clipping - I clip nails before Ethan's naptime, before we read a story.  For some reason, lately, he thinks it's funny.  He giggles every time I do it.  Weird, but better than screaming!

Tarri - you asked if 2 strolls a day is too much?  Are you kidding me?!?  I don't know what I would do if I couldn't take Ethan for a walk!  I usually go in the mornings (although the past few mornings it's been quite cold - about 32 degrees, so we haven't gone until later), and then we take our evening walk EVERY night at 5.  Ethan will crawl around and pull up on everything in site for a good long while, but eventually, he gets cry-y and upset.  Usually takes at least 1.5 hours to get to that point, but a walk breaks up that!  So, take as many walks as you need!  They helped me keep my sanity when Ethan was teething his 2 bottom teeth.  Now he's teething on the top - my neighborhood may see more of me hoofing it soon!

Christine - wow, that is a big list of finger foods.  We are still SO not there yet.  He's good with the puffs and cheerios.  I gave him some bits of teddy grahams this week, and he ate those as well.  It's hard crunchy stuff like that.  But banana or peaches or apples, nothing doing.  He won't pick them up and put them in his mouth.  I'm just trying to hang back a bit and watch for him when he's ready, and occasionally try to offer them again, and again, and again...

Us - well, wonderful day yesterday, ok day today.  Ethan was a bit more whiny, I'm sure from the teething.  He woke up from his am nap after 30 min., but eventually fell back asleep for another hour.  His afternoon nap was about 1 hr 15, so not too bad.  Dh's plane was delayed tonight, so I had to call my mom to come over and stay with ethan while I ran to the airport to pick him up.  He usually comes with me, but it was too late, so I went ahead and put him to bed.

Tarri - I don't know what I would do without my parents here.  My mom is so great at watching him for me when I have appointments.  She works, but she'll take an early lunch or whatever, if I have a dr or dentist appt that I need to get to.  And she comes and watches him when I have a haircut, or during my once a month night out with the neighbor gals.  SO GREAT!  My ILs live about 2 minutes away as well, but just don't see Ethan that much.  I'm not sure why that is - they just don't ever seem to come over.  I guess we need to specifically invite them over if they're going to see Ethan.  I'm sad that I feel like they don't know him and vice versa.

Heather - We are also going out of town in 2 weeks to Austin, so I can host my SIL's baby shower.  This will be Ethan's first road trip.  I'm VERY nervous about him sleeping.  He can pretty much handle everything else, but sleeping has me concerned.  He hasn't slept in his pack n play since he was probably 3 weeks old.  We did get a hotel room suite, so he will be in his own "area", and we'll be in the bedroom portion.  I think that will help that we're not in the same exact room, so he doesn't see us or hear us and wake up.  I'm definitely bringing his humidifier though, cause I think it will help with any hotel noises.  So, here's hoping that both our trips go well!

Oh yeah, I was going to post this picture of Ethan at his attempt to eat banana, peaches, etc... what a mess!

Phew!! Just got through nearly 10 pages of posts! Luka managed to pull a key off of our laptop and it went in for repairs for an entire week. I've had major withdrawal from the internet and am very chuffed we're back online.

There is just too much to catch up on. It sounds like everyone is doing fairly well.

Christine, I hope Leah is feeling much better.

Branwen: Congrats on the selling of your house!

Deborah: How is Maya doing with the nursing strike? You must be so frustrated.

Solid food: I have no clue how much Luka eats. I make almost all his food, and he's started eating pretty much what we have. I introduced him to fish on Monday, and he loved it. Made a fishpie (using potato). The jarred food is for fruit (coz my blender broke), and I don't think Luka like pureed stuff anymore. He blows bubbles with pureed stuff.

Us: I've just reconciled that naps won't be good. We've been having 40 minute naps for ages, but since he isn't miserable when he's awake, I've assumed that he's getting enough sleep. Yesterday he took a 3 hour morning nap  and a half hour afternoon nap. So I just take each day as it comes. I've found that he sleeps better at night if we've been out during the day, maybe I'm not doing enough to exhaust him during the day?

:?: How do you entertain your lo's during the day?

A time, varies from 2 hours to 3 hours. I just watch him for his tired cues and put him down for a nap when he's tired.

Hope to hear from eveyone soon!

We had a fairly good day yesterday.  Good naps and we got out twice which was nice.  It is getting really cold here now so we're having to wrap up very warm. But at least the sun is shining still.

Christine - Daniel got 2 teeth together, then one, then 2 and then 3   :x   The 3 together was horrid.  He's not had any teeth through now for over 2 months which has been great.  He does have teething episodes every now and again, but nothing is coming through (that I can see anyway).  Here's hoping those teeth pop out soon and she (and you) can have a break.

Tarri - not sure what we would do if we couldn't bath Daniel every day!  It really does make that hour pass so quickly.  He usually has his tea and then has a bath.  Then has his bottle and before you know it it's bed time.  In terms of evening activities, we always find if we have friends round to visit that helps Daniel make it through til bedtime.  But you can't do that every night can you!?!  I guess it's just a distraction really.Sorry I can't come up with any better ideas.

Heather - glad Kelsey is becoming happier with finger foods.  Daniel definitely seems to go through phases.  Some days he wants all finger foods, and other days I put it all there for him but end up haing to feed him the finger foods myself anyway.  I guess I have lazy days too though so I'll let him off!

Deborah - glad to hear Maya has put some weight on.  10 oz is still 10 oz isn't it.  Well done Maya.  Daniel is getting less and less interested in his bottles now too.  It used to take him about 5 mins to drink 9oz but now it takes about half an hour.  He is just up and down, up and down, up and down...  There's just so much to be interested in.  But seeing as he already is down to just a bottle in the morning and one before bed I am not gonna let him drop any more yet!  I just try not to worry and just do it slowly, bit by bit.  Sometimes he has a few ounces, then a quick play then a few more and so on.

Joanne - Hannah is beautiful.  Daniel was gonna be a Hannah had he been a girl.  Love the name.  Maybe next time.

Tammy - that picture of Ethan eating is adorable.  He has such lovely big blue eyes.

Activity time for us seems to be 2.5 hours, 3.5 hours and then 4 hours.

Christine, I don't think she's teething cause she's normally impossible in the evenings.  That's awesome that's Kelsey's eating bits of chicken and pasta :) .  That reminds me I bought some pasta that I need to cook emily for lunch.

Deborah, Emily goes to bed between 6:00 and 6:45 depending on her wake up.  Last night cause she was up at 5:30 she was wiped by 6:00 and for some reason slept till 6:15!!  Yeahh :D !  I thought for sure she'd be up earlier cause of the early bedtime :? .

Nail Clipping, this might sound bad but I found it impossible to cut Emily's finger nails short enough so she couldn't hurt herself with scratching so I bite them off  .  This way I can get them nice and short without nipping her fingers.

Joanne, gosh I just want to squeeze that CUTIE bum of Hannahs!

Tammy, thanks for writing back that you do 2 walks.  I feel better now, I'm definately going to take her twice a day now!  How long was dh away for?  My dh has a business trip in January and he'll be away for a week.  How do you survive not having dh's help?  My dh can postpone his trip by a few months but I want him to go cause it'll be good for his resume and for him to get a break from the normal daily grind.

Schae, I think your nap attitude is perfect.  I think the more flexible we are, the easier it is on us and the baby.  Like this morning I was all prepared to get up at 5:30 because I just accepted that she's going thru this phase.

Hazel, love the new avatar.  He looks like a bundle of fun:)

Us, Emily went from sitting to tummy(on purpose) for the first time :D .  She was reaching for a toy that was slightly out of reach and she tucked one leg in under her bum and leaned very very slowly forward with weight on her hands and ended up gently on her tummy.  She's definately showing signs of gaining strength!

Ok, now that someone else admitted to it, I will to:  I bite Kelsey's nails rather than using the clippers.  She's just soooo squirmy I can't cut them.  I do it while she's drinking her bottle, but sometimes she won't let me.  I can occasionally get the toenails with the clippers, but as you may recall, I have a Riverdance baby on the changing table!

Just real quick, then I'll write more later...

Nails: don't be embarrassed about biting them!  Many moms do!   My best friend did all her LOs this way while nursing because they're just so nice and thin.  I tried with Asher, but the clippers seemed faster and easier for me right now.

Christine, Asher had a month long teething marathon (just finshed).  He got 6 new teeth, two by two.  It was crazy!!  Naps and night were all over the place, but he was generally in good spirits during the day.

Hilarious photos, Tammy!  And Joanne, that photo of Hannah outside belongs on the front of a Hallmark card!  Just darling!

Schae, I was wondering where you were!  Thought it was too early in the month to get your internet capped!    We've just recently been getting bored during A time, after lunch mainly.  The mornings and evenings are busy enough with nursing, meals, playing, dressing, etc.  I think I'm more bored than Asher!    I've been trying to clean to prepare for the holidays at my house, but I'm not motivated!  Asher seems satisfied enough just walking back and forth exploring various corners of the family room.      He just never stops!  I need to finish babyproofing the rest of the house.  I feel bad keeping him confined.

Asher slept well last night!  :D   No wake ups (well, no wake ups that I had to rescue!).  Woke a bit earlier than I'd like this morning, but I can't complain since he did so well the rest of the night!

Just wanted to add that the photos are really lovely! South Africa isn't big on halloween, so I especially enjoyed looking at the pics of the babies in their costumes. Too cute!

Schae, I forgot to mention what we do during A time.  Also I hope everyone else shares cause I can always use new ideas.
- sitting and playing with toys, dog, books, kids keyboard, guitar, treasure basket, magazine etc.
- jolly jumper, exersaucer while watching TV for 15mins, listening to kids music, stroll
-eating puffs while I make her dinner and playing with kitchen stuff in highchair
- tummy time on our bed and looking in closet mirror while I get dressed
-and I just made her a toy house out of a big cardboard box, I cut a window in the side and we play peek-a-boo
-pounding on computer keyboard, chewing on calculator, post-it notes etc.

Tarri - my dh travels every week Monday morning thru Thursday evenings.  So, he's only home Friday, Saturday, & Sunday.  And last week he had to leave Sunday afternoon due to a meeting first thing Monday morning.

Coping with it - it's hard sometimes.  There's no one around to give you a break, so that can be hard.  On Ethan's bad days, when he's grumpy or whatever, I tend to find an errand to run, simply to get us both out of the house.  That's just distraction, so it tends to work for a while.  And, like I said, we take walks!  Honestly, it was harder being alone when he was younger, because he was up later at night.  So, there was no one to hand him off to so I could have a sanity break.  But now that bedtime is 7 pm, it's not so bad.  Then I can eat dinner, watch tv, read a book, or just go to bed whenever I want to.  It can get a bit lonely   :( , but then I go around to my parents for some company  :)

A time here consists of:

playing with basket of toys
exploring the house (she opens cupboards now :o )
playing in her ball pit
outside time
reading books
playing with mini plastic animals (cats, dogs, and birds. I put these in little baskets and she loves to dump them out and pick each one up and examine it)
potty time (before and after nap time)

We just packed away her Exersaucer since she won't go in it anymore, I guess she finds it too restricting now that she is so mobile.

Sometimes if she's clingy and I need to get things done around the house I pop her in the backpack carrier - she loves it. I think she likes seeing everything at a different angle.

Favorite snacks these days:  1. mixed peach and apple chunks in fruit juice. White House is the only brand that makes fruit cups w/o sugar, they are fruit juice sweetened.  2. Veggie Booty - this is a puffed corn snack coated with dehydrated spinach and other veggies. I don't care for it but Hannah eats it like I eat chocolate

Gotta run. Time to put my little munchkin to bed. Have a great weekend everyone :)

Joanne

Hi everyone!!! Guess what? My sister is pregnant!!!!!!!!  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D Yes, my sister that just got married a month ago.  My mother always said we were a fertile family. It took us only once to conceive Leah and I guess the same for my sister! They are happy. She is nearing thiry and he is in his early thirties, so they were ready to start right away. I am so excited. I had to tell someone. We're not suppose to tell anyone becuase she is only 6 weeks along, but I had to tell!!!!!!!!!!! Alright, I feel better now.  :D
