How much solids?
« on: November 19, 2006, 17:24:48 pm »
I'm just wondering, is there a specific amount of solids that a child should be consuming each day, on top of the minimum of 24oz of formula/milk?

Well, my daughter is 7.5 months.  I wondered though, I always see posts and/or charts with regards to how much formula a 0-3 month, 6-9 month etc. should be drinking, but I don't think I've ever come across anything that says how much food/solids they should be consuming (when the time comes to start solids).

my ds is also 7 1/2 months old and i just kinda go with the flow with him. he eats three meals of, i think, substantial amount. i think breastmilk and/or formula is still his most important meal, so as long as he gets his share of that i don't sweat the solids. i keep going as long as he seems interested and stop when he takes a long time to open his mouth or turns away or swats at the spoon. he eats cereal with fruit in the morning, veggies and fruit for lunch and dinner and also rice cakes, baby crackers (rice rusks) if i have him in the chair and his meal isn't ready yet or he's done but we're not. so, just make sure he gets his fluid meals and then take your lo's cues. have fun...

I am just going by what she'll eat, but I just wondered if there is some type of guideline of how much they should be eating, much like the guideline of for formula intake.

in traceys book she says that eventually they substitute the amount of solids to the amount of liquids... obviously the young ones it is still a guessing and trying game...
