Waking early-is it related to solids?
« on: November 20, 2006, 15:48:40 pm »
For the past 2-3 weeks my LO is waking around 5:30am and not going back to sleep.  She used to consistently sleep until 6:30-7am.
My initial thought was with the time change (daylight savings time), but now I'm wondering if it has something to do with her solids at dinnertime.  My Dr. told me that she should have some meat twice a day, where I was only giving it to her at lunchtime, so I started giving her some at dinner as well.  I had only been giving her cereal and veggies at dinnertime solids.  Is it possible that her having the meat at dinnertime is causing her to wake early?

Here's what our routine looks like daily,

5:30-6am-wakeup, play in crib
7-7:15am-bottle 6-8oz
8:30am-offer breakfast (2tbsp cereal, 1.5 tbsp fruit) eats a few spoons
9:30-nap for 1-1.5 hrs
11:15-bottle 6-8oz
12:30-solids (1.5 tbsp meat, 1.5 tbsp fruit, 1.5 tbsp veggie)
2/2:30-nap for 1-1.5 hrs
3:30/4pm-bottle 6oz
5pm-solids (2 tbsp cereal, 1.5 tbsp meat, 1.5 tbsp veggie)
7:15/7:30-bedtime-bottle 7-8 oz

Like I said, she used to sleep until 6:30-7am, but now it's much earlier, as early at 5am to 6am.  This morning she woke at 5:30am, and after 45 mins I got up and gave her a bottle.  She drank 6oz and then went back to sleep until 9am.  How do I try and get her back on track?

You said this started happening when you introduced meat for dinner? Try and cut this out again for a few days and see if that makes a difference. Otherwise your routine looks great ;)

I cut meat out tonight at dinner, so we'll see how that goes.

Thanks!

Well, last night I didn't offer meat.  She had a bottle at 6:50pm, was asleep by 7:15pm.  I heard her wake at 4:50am, but she fussed for a few minutes and fell back asleep until 7:15 this morning.  I did however give her Tylenol last night as she seemed to be chewing on absolutely EVERYTHING yesterday and was a tad cranky (not sure if it was a teething thing or tiredness)

Not sure if it was a coincidence or not, but I'm going to keep giving meat at lunchtime for awhile and see how that goes.
