It was fairly normal to start as young as 1 mo. in the 60's
When ds#1 was 4mo dh (then 42) had 1/2 his pancreas, his gall bladder & part of his intestines removed due to a pancreatic tummour... due to that, we saw lots of GI specialists & nutritionalists, as ds#1 was a very big baby (20lb at 4mo) I got asked lots about him & feeding (exclusive bf)... 3 of the people all commented that there was a "possible" link  between early solids ( before 4mo) & type 2 diabetes & also other problems, most of which occured at 50+... the vast majority of people seemed to get problems later in life... there was no accurate way to prove as many people have no idea when they started solids & also there are other factors like children brought up on "war diet" (ww2) or introduction of fast food or even babies having cows milk (before formula) . But the point that was made to me is that it may not be something we see at age 2, 10, 20 or even 30, but with all the modern evidence to show it is best around 6mo, saying "My mum did for me & I'm ok, may not be true in 10 years time" KWIM
