? about ice cube freezing
« on: February 27, 2007, 17:43:24 pm »
I keep seeing the mention of freezing your cooked food into ice cube trays.  Is it really just that?

Say, I steam up my organic carrots, then mush them (we are moving on to lumps), do I just spoon it into the ice cube holes, and freeze?  Then, when I need one, do I just pop it out, and microwave it?

Thanks.

Yup!  I usually defrost in the fridge overnight.  Careful with the mircowave as it can cause hot spots in the food.

When they are frozen you can pop them into a Ziploc Freezer Bag.  Then when you need some you can take a few out to defrost overnight.  Saves room in the freezer so you don't have all these Ice Cube Trays taking up space.

HTH!  :)

Great idea!  Since freezer space seems to never be enough!  Thanks!

How old is your lo?

I used to make Tyler...Sweet Potato, carrots, peas, green beans, applesauce, pureed pears, pureed peaches etc.

Eventually I would mix, pureed carrots with peas, then pureed meats.

It does feel like you are giving them the same stuff over and over, but the pediatrician said that was fine.

Hope that makes sense.

She is almost 8 months.  She is on all organic bottle stuff now, so I will be making organic food myself now.  Especially since I want to start her on lumps and a few finger foods.

I can see how to do wweet Potato, carrots, peas, applesauce, pears, and peaches, but how do you do green beans?  Do you include the skin or just use the pods inside?  Thanks a bunch!

For green beans, I would include the skins.  I would also do this with peas.  However, Tyler never had a consistency or texture issues.  Many lo's do.

Oh, I would also do different squashes like acorn squash.  Very sweet and yummy.

By 8 months, I think I was mashing his food as opposed to pureeing.  Just an FYI.  It all depends on your lo.

You can still freeze mashed food in ice cube trays.

HTH!

Yeah, we are going to start the lumpy food this weekend, and that is why I am changing to making stuff myself instead.

Yummy, squashes!

Perfect!  Thank you so much for help!  It has put MANY ideas in my mind.

WOW!  That is a lot of varity.  My LO is lactose intolerant, so I will have to stay away from certain things right now.  So, did you mix all the stuff up and give it at one time, or as seperate things?

Hi,

I know it seems like a lot but i did start to feel i was giving her the same things all the  time ::) i got most of the recipes from annabel karmel book which is great.

In answer to your question, i just mixed everything up togeather and as she got older i started to mash it  and then gradually separate certain foods and give to he in a bowl.
