Refusing 7am bottle!
« on: March 14, 2007, 08:55:36 am »
My DS of 14wks has started refusung/or having very little (2oz) of his 7am bottle.  He is still having a bottle at 3 or 4am in the night and I think that this may be the reason.  He seems to want to drop this feed rather than the night feed!! ::)

Anyone know what strategies I can use to fend him off the bottle in the night to get him to feed properly at 7?  It seems to muck our whole day up as then he cannot wait until his next bottle etc etc....

Any ideas please???

Hi Jules
Its kinda hard to tell without seeing how your whole day goes.  If you could post your schedule that would be great.

E 7am wake and feed
A washed and dressed and play
S 08.30 nap
usually wakes after 30-45 mins

E 10am
A nappy and play
S 11.30 - again 45 mins max

E 1pm
A nappy and walk in pram or run errands in car
S 2.30 max 45 min nap

E 4pm
A nappy and play
S 5.15-30 45 mins

A 6-6.15pm bath and pyjamas
E 7pm bottle and bed

Dream feed at 11pm (sometimes will wake before this)
wakes anything between 3-4am feed and goes back down until 6.30-7am

I want to transition to a 3.5 or 4hr EASY but this first bottle is throwing it all out of whack.

have you tried cutting down the amt gradually in the 3am bottle.that may help him take a larger bottle in the morning.

will try that tonight - 5oz instead of 6 for a couple of nights and then reduce and see how it goes!

Thanks

Have you tried using a dummy/pacifier at either the night feed or the morning feed?  Maybe he will settle back to sleep after a few sucks.

As pp have suggested, reduce amt of early morning bottle and maybe give paci if you think he may want to suckle.

OK - so I tried o give him only 4oz last night and he screamed for more so I ended up giving him 6!  He then only had 1oz at 7am. OOps!!!!!  He is poorly at the moment though with a cough and cold and he hadn't had enough ounces in the day - so that's my excuse ::) ::)

Will try again in a couple of nights when he is feeding better in the day!
