Title: Things I LOVE about toddlerhood!
Post by: momofclaire on March 31, 2007, 00:29:23 am
Recently Claire has just been too cute.  I know we often talk about the tantrums and the sleep issues but I wanted to share some of the fun stuff with you.

She waves and says hello at everyone, even the guy in the car next to us at the red light.

Toddler kisses and hugs.  (even though she thinks she has to pinch the back of my neck for it to count)

Hearing "mommy" when she is ready to get up

When I say, "Claire you need to get down," she points to her nose and says "no!"

The world looks so amazing through their eyes. Sometimes I forget how funny a cow sounds (mooooo) or how interesting it must be to feel raindrops on your head but she reminds me everyday how simple and beautiful life is when you are young.

Any other cute toddlers out there?

My DS gets really excited in the morning to see DD....it warms my heart that he already loves her soooo much!  :-*

HI CHA CHA, HI CHA CHA over and over and then he jumps and kisses her

(he also is telling everyone Hello!)

also when people ask how old he is he says

tu...in this really small voice and holds both his pointer fingers in front of his nose.....

He spontaneously dances....doesn't matter what the music is....me...a commercial...music on the radio...

when he can't find/do etc something he goes

Hmmmmmm and changes his inflection....(my fault...I do the same darn thing! cute when it's him)

I could probably list 1000...thanks momofclaire for starting this thread....reminds me of the GOOD not just the troublesome....

Can I go too?

Hearing Momma, momma, momma a million and one times a day

She says HI to every stranger we pass (and waves too)

The sweet kisses she blows to dh before bedtime as we are going up the stairs melts our hearts

Every time she sees a picture of a fat man (on a sign, t.v. or even a KFC cup) she yells out "BABY" really loudly. Cracks me up.

I love seeing the top of her head peeking out of her crib in the morning when I go in to get her up. I also love the way she says "mama?" when I first open her door.

I will never get tired of the fact that when she falls or hurts herself...she runs straight to her momma for some hugs.

Oh...there are so many more but that will do for now!  I LOVE LOVE LOVE my little toddler!

These are great!

There's so many things about dd that I love but here's one.

She'll take one bite of something new and says "Delicious" but wouldn't take another!  And if you try to offer it again, she'll just say "No, thank you.  Mommy try?"

They are such wonderful wonderful human beings!   :-* :-* :-*

he comes in and stage whispers we have a pur prize for you (if dh and himself bring me back a little treat  :)
he calls "Its an emergency" if an ant is in the back garden..............

too cute......and yes I (unlike you) are one of those people who HAVE to shave every couple days...doing it preggo is not fun...nope not at all...in fact that reminds me of something to share on the "things your DH says" thread.....

 :D

But my DS notices my HAIRY legs and says...."ouch"

(sad...so sad) ;)

HA, Thanks for reminding me of how funny pregnancy can be.   ::)  Dh shaved my legs a couple times near the end as I was not going into labor all scratchy and couldn't reach.  :-[

When we ask anything her answer is "no" in a cute voice.  Very funny when we ask stuff like "do you want some chocolate?"
Those run full tilt and throw her arms around my neck hugs!!!!!!
The way she gets up from sleep, grabs a couple of "friends" from her crib and brings them to the living room.  Then she dumps them until it's time to go back to bed.     ???

theron and i play "chicken crawl" where i'll start speed crawling towards him, and he comes towards me. we end up colliding and having big hugs and aahs. but he just squeals in excitement when he realizes what game i've started.

i love trying to understand his sign language ("book? baby? the book ABOUT the baby?" oh, outside?)

i love how he'll question himself now and then answer himself too. "ingh?" he says, followed by "hmm." "ingh? hmm. ingh? hmm." all around the house!

oh, and every item on his high chair try must be pointed to and queried every mealtime, all three lights in the kitchen must be on at the same time ("ingh! ingh!"), and woe betide me if the toilet seat's up -- he screeches like a banshee till we've gone in, closed it, fixed the toilet lock, and flushed it. still, it's better than him playing in the toilet like he was before  ::) where did i get such a particular child?

but yes, toddler kisses -- when he deigns to give them -- are just the best. my heart feels like it will burst every time.

I'm LOVING having a toddler. I was at a wedding yesterday and people kept trying to 'give me a break'. She IS my break! I love finishing work to see her. She amazes me everyday. Why would I want a break from that?  ;D

Although, when she was asleep and safely tucked up a corner, alseep in her pushchair (at 11pm  ::) ), I also loved having a dance and being me.  ;D

The thing about shaving legs reminds me of something dd said to me when we were taking a shower together:

dd: "Mommy, you forgot to wash your legs!"
Me: "No I didn't, I washed them."
dd: "but they're still hairy!"

;D ;D - At that point I figured it was time to shave!

Freya makes me laugh soooooooooooooo much - her most recent game is to 'hide' (usually under the table) and say "where's Freya gone?", and we have to say "is she in the porch - no, is she behind the door - no, is she by the fireplace - no, etc?" and she can play it endlessly, for hours!

I love it when she breast feeds her doll when all her friends feed theirs with a bottle!

I love it when she sings too, she makes up random sentences to familiar tunes, and has an amazing memory for all songs and music, she's always singing to herself.

They're great aren't they, even when they're hard work?

I love it when she breast feeds her doll...

My DS does this with a LARGE carebear Monkey....it is the same size as him and just makes me crack up when he tries to walk out of his room with the head stuffed up his shirt....(sometimes he fights with me for the nursing pillow too!  ;)

So tonight at dinner Claire held up her sippy to "cheers" us!  YIPPEE.  It was so cute, at first we couldn't figure it out  ::) but we do it quite often and I guess she caught on.  We had our first family cheers.   :)

Love this thread!!

I love when Gaby gives her teddies hugs & then says 'awwww'.

Or when she pretend cries for her babies.

Or today when I came home with a bag full of new spring clothes (love Kohl's sales) and she took each item, held it up on the hanger and said 'preeeetteeee' then tried to put it over top the 3 or 4 outfits she already had on.

Or when I come home from work and she comes running to the door with the biggest smile on her face saying 'mommy, mommy, mommy' and bear hugs my legs.

Same with Freya, I LOVE when she sings or when I hum the 'Elmo's World' theme song and she says 'Elmo', or when I hum 'Mr. Sun' and she starts the hand gestures like on Barney. (really we dont watch THAT much TV).

Ok, I could go on forever, shutting up now. I love being a proud mommy :)

don't shut up!...they're all BEAUTIFUL...

what I love is reading other people's posts and remembering my DS doing that at that age...( hey, 6 months makes a difference at this age! ;))

Scotty gives sloppy kisses and pinches your cheeks :)
He dances and sings and strokes the cat outside. He offers his bottle to sleeping Jenn and shares everything he's got...
He also repeats everything you say, it sounds so cute. He wants to be left alone in the morning and after his nap with his bottle and toys to do a jobby and he tells you when he's finished  ;D

He gives away his lovey when somebody seems upset and cuddles it in your face, he dances for boogie beebies and says hello to everybody who's around, especially people he doesn't know.

He gets tantrums when he doesn't get what he wants and while he has one he wants to have a cuddle to be sure he is still loved.

He gets upset when he has done something he wasn't allowed because he wants to please everybody (I am like that, too  ::) )

His blonde hair is sticking up in the wind and looks SOOOOOOO cute...

He puts his hands behind his back and his upper lip out and walks about like a wee gentleman or a butler and brings people things :)

he tries to put on his own shoes and understands almost everything we say to him...

He plays a game called "scary baby" where he raises his arms and we have to all scream and be scared and he loves it...

Love yer, Scottyman  :-* :-* :-*

This is ds's FAVOURITE game ever! He calls it More Boo :D He'll often disappear into the kitchen, and I'll hear 'MU-UMMY - More Boo!' - I have to go in, ignoring the giggling (he's the worst hider ever ;)) and 'look' for him - always in the same place, too :D

This is a lovely thread. I could bore you for hours, but I'll pick my faves

- When we tell him we love him, he'll reply with 'Ub u, Mummy' or 'Ub u, Daddy' :-*
- When we are out, he'll shout 'Hello Lady' or 'Hello Man' at top toddler volume to random strangers. He (ahem, usually) gets it right
- Since Christmas and his birthday, he thinks all parcels are for him - and opens them with a big 'WOW'
- Things must be 'right' here too - toilet seat must be down/cupboards closed/etc - luckily he'll do it himself ;)
- The running commentary I get when he's in the car - 'car', 'big truck', 'tree', 'sheep', 'horse', etc
- The singing and dancing is great fun here too :)
- Watching him fall asleep over the monitor - he talks to Teddy and Pooh Bear (my fave is 'oh Teddy, really' :D), and he'll also do a little mantra chant of the people he loves 'Mummy, Daddy, Nainy, Taidy, Nenny and Nannan' over and over until he's asleep :-*

OK, I'll stop now ;)

Oh, I can't believe I forgot my favourite  ::)

He's really getting the hang of 'thank you', except it comes out as 'dank oo'. I'll get 'dank oo Mummy dum-dums' (dum dums are food), or 'dank oo Mummy dwink'. What reminded me was the postman's just been - he likes to shout 'dank oo man letters' out of the letterbox :D

You could be describing dd. Except, for the falling asleep part. Dd can't have anything anywhere around her or else she won't sleep.  ::) Her special hiding place is behind the curtain though.  :)

These are so good to read.  Here's another one I love:

DD's overprotectiveness.  When I'm drinking my coffee or tea, she'll urgently gush up to me to say, "Careful Mommy.  It's hot.  It's hot.  Blow Mommy blow." Or when I'm using a knife, "Careful Mommy.  Sharp knife.  Sharp knife give boo boo.  Careful."   ::)   :-* :-*

Freya does a running commentary, but the best thing is when she states the obvious: "that's a cat" err, yes!

Oh, and the ritual of "hewo mummy", "hello darling", "hewo darwing" - bless!

And then when she gives you something, perhaps a cup of 'tea', she says "thank you mummy/daddy" to remind us to say thank you like we do to her!

Ahh, she's lovely!

Oh I love this! Makes me want to go home to my LO right NOW!

Here's my short list:

1. Wet, sloppy kisses - he puts a hand on either side of my face and then lays one on me - love that.
2. Hearing DS and DH giggling downstairs.
3. In the morning when I say it's time to go downstairs, put paci away...and he marches to his crib and tosses the paci through the slats.
4. his infatuation with his own (and other's) belly button
5. Waves bye to everyone and everything
6. When he's sleepy and ready for bed...he'll sit on my lap and rest his head on my chest. Mmmmm love that sweet toddler smell! :)

This is a fun thread. Let's see:

- He runs after our cat and calls from the top of his lungs: "Missy, come back. Missy, come here."
- He comes to me, raises his hands and says: "Pick it up!"
- If he hears that somebody is in pain will inisit on giving kisses.
- Whenever we get on a highway, it's "Be careful, daddy."

And one of my favorites. We were visiting my parents, and I was putting him down to sleep. Since we were in a strange for him place, I stayed with him until he fell alseep. He was almost gone, I was just laying down, relaxed. Suddenly, out of blue, he jumped up and went "Pop goes the weasel".   ;D

I could go on, but will stop here. :)

Awww, this is a great thread  ;D

Colin absolutely loves to pet our cats, particularly the cranky one that has never forgiven us for bringing him home.  ::)  She lets him pet her for a moment and then get y and nips at him. Yesterday, he went to the kitchen and pulled a wooden spoon from the drawer (Colin's utensil play drawer that is) and crept up on her and started petting her with that! LOL! It was too funny.

When he gets excited about something and walks on his tiptoes  ;D

Every night when he says goodnight to DH by racing over, standing directly in front of him and waving furiously  ;D

When he doesn't want to eat something - he shoves it down next to him in the corner of the highchair, so I find it all when I pick him up.  ;D  ::)

Claire walks on her tiptoes also.  Funny.

I also love the strange food trends.  Today she refused the homeade pizza dad made her but ate broccoli and peas! Tomorrow I am sure broccoli will be out and cherrios in.  Next week there will be nothing had but bananas.   ::)

Tyler walks on his tippy toes too!!!

Hysterically laughing in his car seat.  I have no idea at what.

Dancing and bobbing his head to anything.  Even the sounds of a blender.

Hysterically laughing and talking in his room after his nap.

Kissing with a loud MWUAH sound.

I could go on and on.

I love getting squashes!  Sean hasn't figured out kissing yet, he just comes and squashes his big open mouth on my face ;D

Having meals together and watching him try to figure out the spoon.

He will bring a book to me, then turn his body around so I can pick him up in my lap.

Watching him spin around until he is dizzy.

Just about everything!

If you're checking around...(come to think of it I should have posted it here)....In the photo gallery I just posted "what a spirited child can do in 3 mins or less"....the pic says it all...

I went to let the dog out and LITERALLY in a couple mins he managed to use half a tub of peneten to "shave"....DH is completely follically challenged and when he shaves...it's from neck to neck if you get what I mean...so DS tries to copy....which is usually cute...except when it's done with Peneten.....YUCK.

I love when DS gives me a really GOOD laugh at the end of a really bad day....

(and yes gals...I did laugh...it was that or cry...!)

I like it when I put Jacob down for the night and he says "suss suss mummy, pat pat." Remembering when I used to shh/pat him.
I also love it when he does this to me or his bunny.

He laid down on the floor yesterday and said "Baby" . I asked him if he woudl still like to be a baby "Yes!" he said,
"Did you enjoy being a baby?"
"Yes!" he replied :-*

Freya's ability to find extreme pleasure in the simplest things... a bus ride, walking thru a tunnel/under a bridge, seeing what the weather is doing (lots of opportunities for this in the UK at present - boo!), spotting landmarks.

She's learned the concept of 'behind' so we get lots of "where's the sun gone? Oooh, it's hiding behind a cloud!", or "where's the Spinnaker Tower gone? (Any other Pompey ladies out there?) Ooh, it's hiding behind the buildings!".

Oh to be 2 again! I've had to explain how babies are made to my 7 year old step-daughter today - she told me that sex is rude :-\ :'(. How easily they learn the wrong things from adult TV programmes and unhelpful info from those around them - such a responsibility!

Wilf always says that things are hiding beneath things - 'plane hideink neath clouds' - so cute!

Wilf does the same as Charlie and refers to everyone as either man or lady 'hello man' 'funk uoo lady'. It was very funny when we went on the train the other day, we had a running commentry of what was whizzing past the window and then a man sitting across from us fell asleep, well he was asleep until Wilf piped up with 'wake up man'.

He does soooo many cute things!!!!! I love it when he tries to pick me up ;D Backing up on to my lap for a story. 'Niffing' flowers, which is basically blowing on them. The kisses, the hugs and I love it when he has a shy moment and buries his head into my neck - he has the softest hair so this is just gorgeous :D :D :D

Also his body is so cute, when he's just come out of the bath and he's all softy I just want to squish him all over ;D But then he farts or makes a 'bottom noise' and we quickly put a nappy on him just in case a poo falls out - no clue about all that yet ::) ;D

sex is rude!  Oh I am glad I am not dealing with that stuff yet.   ::)

Where do they get this stuff?

Well, for dsd it's because she watches lots of adult TV with her mum, all the soaps, and post watershed things like 'Sex in the City' and 'Footballers Wives' which of course she doesn't understand, but still takes it all in - I guess she either can't ask her mum the questions, or hasn't had reasonable answers, 'coz when she stays with us she always asks me to explain this stuff!

I guess it's good preparation for when the younger two start asking such things - I just think it's sad that she's exposed to it at all! Her mum actually criticised dh when he picked her up at the weekend for us not allowing dsd to watch any TV when she stays - wtf? I mean, not only is it not true, we just limit it to age appropriate stuff, but also what a thing to complain about!!! Like the time she complained that we didn't give dsd enough sweets during her stays - again wtf? On both occasions, dh's retort about trying to look after her health and wellbeing was met with a defensive "don't you think I know what's best for my daughter?" - we can't win, don't bother trying anymore!

Anyway, have gone off-topic - sorry! This thread is a lovely warm and fuzzy place to enjoy our toddlers before all the complex growing up stuff begins! Keep it going!

Paul dances every time he hears any kind of noise, being it the radio playing a song or the washing mashine during the spin cycle! LOL  ;D ;D ;D He starts bouncing up and down and moving his head either up and down or side to side. It's the cutest thing I've seen, I swear!

When we're reading a book before bed (reading as in showing him the pictures), he takes my finger to point at the pics he likes, eg. the bee or a cow, because he likes the sounds they make (by me  ::))

Also, when I'm on the phone, he literally  harrasses me to give him the phone to talk to whoever is on the othe line. Then, when he gets it, he takes it and walks off, listening all the time to what they're telling him. Sometimes he would chat away, but most of the time he just listens and looks like a little man on a serious call  ;D ;D. Last week, when DH was away, the two times he called, Paul had to talk to him as well, of course. And he got so excited at hearing his daddy, that he only laughed the whole time, really happy to hear him  ;D . It melted my heart.

Ok, I'll stop now.

This is so wonderful!  I can't get enough, all the posts are making me smile!!!  ;D

My LO has somewhat recently learned about putting things back.  So now BACK is a very big thing for us.  If I catch him pulling something from my night stand he turns  heading for the nightstand as fast as his little legs will let him and says BACK, BACK, BACK.  He will also bring me the remote controls my DH has left out from the night before and says BACK? BACK!

One of my favorites though is that he says STUCK, STUCK, when he gets stuck, foot stuck in crib rails, falls down on toys and gets stuck, can't get up, whatever.  I was in the kitchen and suddenly I hear, STUCK, STUCK, STUCK.  I find him in the bathroom, he had climbed up on his little stool and couldn't get down, too funny!

And of course, all the open mouth wet kisses!  Sometimes he'll plant one on me and just sit there for a minute, yummy!  I have also caught him kissing the "baby in the mirror"!   ::)

LOVE IT!  I can't wait to read more ladie, absolutely wonderful!!!

I love it that Mummy kissing things better is a cure all and that he asks for it - I did draw the line the other day when he bit his tongue and wanted me to kiss it better ;D A kiss on the lips was a half way house that we both agreed to!

We tell Charlotte it's time for bed.  She says "no" with a grin.  We tell her to get her "guys", she grabs 'Phant, doggie, or whoever she brought out after her nap.  Then happily toddles off to her room and tosses them in her crib.  Pop her in and she settles to chatter herself to sleep.
The way "duce" is an all purpose word for any beverage.

Hannah, for situations like that Adrian accepts "transfer" kisses. I kiss my hand and apply kiss with my hand. Then we put a spare one in his pocket for later. :)

We went and sat on the beach today for an ice cream to make up for the running around we've had to do after the builders.  It was lovely, we sat in the sun eating our ice creams chatting - my buddy.

I love the way he says 'Cheer up little fella' when I get stressed with the builders.

He has a joke that he got off Backyardigans which he tells me a few times every day which is great and still makes me laugh just proving that it is the way you tell them.

He will also compliment my clothes or DH's.  He'll turn round and say 'Nice green jumper dad'

Kathy-Ann, you should see how much fun dimmer switches are! On, off, brighter, dimmer...

A few weeks ago Callum went through a stage of randomly saying 'funny!' (pronounced hunny) and then doing this big fake laugh: 'hunny, HAHAHAHA!'

And the other morning he was in our bed, and he rolled over, grabbed me by the ears and said 'kiss' and gave me a big kiss. Awww!

DS is being a donkey right now...we're trying to get him to go to bed....DH is getting EXTREMELY frustrated...and I said...

"daddy loves you buddy...." evil eye towards DH

and DS says

"YAAHHHHH ahhh lubs" and then puts both hands on DH's face and "eskimo kisses" him

makes my (and DH's) heart melt in a moment of frustration.... :-*

Awwww....aren't LO's just sooo sweet?  This is a great thread...thanks so much for starting it!

Now that it is getting warmer outside Sophia and I have started going for walks.  Whenever we go to my room so Mama can make a quick pit stop to the bathroom, I take her with me and just let her walk around the room and explore around while I do my business.   Well...one day she started getting in the closet and there she was walking with my sneakers, one in each hand, bringing them to me and saying  "come on mama", indicating that it is time to go out for a walk.

Another one is her saying I love you and giving me kisses on the lips, non-stop!

One more...like Mena's DS Sophia loves to dance...when she hears a beat she will start bobbing her little head (been doing this since she was 8 or 9 months old), then she will start moving her hands up and down and bend her knees and bounce up and down and then she'll shake her little booty and totally get down (like Mama does when she dances around with her).   ;D ;D ;D

if you ask theron where his eyes are, he'll crinkle them up and smoosh them shut. he knows that DH and i think this is the cutest thing ever. we tend to chuckle, give him hugs, and tell him we love him.

today i caught him trying to flush the toilet for what seemed like the third time in a row. "theron, you know you can't flush the toilet unless you've been to the potty" i said, perhaps a little more sternly than i'd intended. i could literally see the gears in his brain turning, as his lower lip trembled at my tone, he realized he'd done something he shouldn't have, and then he paused for a moment, looked at me, and crinkled up his eyes at me to get on my good side.

am i wrapped around his little finger or what! cheeky monkey  ;D

My DD has started saying 'nope' or 'no no no' but for the most part she doesn't really use it properly. For example, she was pointing at something on the counter today. I picked up everything and each time she said 'nope' but took it to examine it, then gave it back and signed 'more' and pointed to whatever else there was.

Or when I asked if she wanted a drink, 'nope' but had her fill anyway!

If only I could teach her to say 'yes'. It's so funny to watch her try to move her head up and down. If we try to help her she gets insane giggles and shakes it side to side (NO!!). Too funny.

Okay so part of our wind down at night involves not only reading about 3 books but also praying.  Unfortunately we can no longer put Sophia down and just walk away as we used to....now she sobs and demands for Mama to read to her and rock her a bit.  So we both make the sign of the cross (she gets my hand to help her by moving her hands with mine). Now whenever she wants to pray she asks me to help her by clasping her little hands and saying "Amen".

She has also recently been saying "Mama...ama" (translation: Mama I love you :))

He runs around naked after his shower and screams for all the world to hear "Clean peepee Clean peepee!!!" LOL

Crawls into bed with us in the morning and pulls on dh to pull him closer until we sandwich him

Lately, he pulls on one of my crutches and imitates me hopping on one foot to get me balance back  ::)

Ds loooooooooves my Dad (his Taid) - he'd do anything for him (and vice versa ;)). They were star-gazing early one evening, and my Dad was showing him the moon - they were shouting 'hiya moon!'. Dad said that he'd like the moon, and asked ds to fetch it for him - so off ds went down the road, as fast as his little legs could carry him, towards the moon, shouting 'fetch moon for Taidy'. Tried not to laugh too much, but it was so funny ;D ;D

I REALLY needed to read this thread again today, we've so been struggling with sleep. I also wanted to ....

tonight when I was reading Gaby her book before bed I was asking her to point out the different characters on the page. So 1st I ask her to point out Dora, she points to Boots and behind her soother I can see her get this little smirk. Then I ask her where is Diego, she points to Dora and I'm watching facial expressions the whole time, she is giggling so hard inside she can hardly contain it. Last I ask her where Boots is, she points to Diego, I looked at her and said, 'are you sure?' and she broke out in laughter and was saying "Silly Daby" (daby cuz she can't say G's yet) over and over.

Man I love that kid, even if she has tired me out. Her little antics gave me the re-charge I needed tonight.

Kisses to the cute toddlers out there :-*

Gosh toddlers are fun here are some of my favorite things
She wants to hug and kiss everything, her cup, pictures, toys, people
She says   "Luv you mommy/daddy/nuggly" (her lovey)
When she gives hugs she says  "ahhhh"
She is starting to make the kiss sound when she kisses
She will bring me the digital camera and say "baby" (she wants to see picutres of herself)
She always thinks its daddy on the phone and say "hi daddy"
She will ask for a song (wants me to sing) and she will start swaying her head like Stevie Wonder
She has to close all doors
If she sees an owie on you she has to kiss it, and if she bonks or gets an owie she wants you to kiss it
She says   "coming" or "Tallie coming" when I say I am going to get or do something

There are so many more but I will stop there.  What a great thread!!

I don't think Freya really counts as a toddler any more :'( but anyway... I hear her repeating what I say and it makes me laugh sooooo much... for example if I ask her a question she says "mummy, I don't know" just like I do, and when she's trying to do a puzzle, and Eryn steals the bits and crawls off with them, she looks all stern and says "Eryn, that's not helpful!" just like I do, and when I say "no" to her she now says "don't you say no to me mummy" just like I do!

Awww.....to cute how Freya just mimicks you.   ;D ;D ;D
You are her idol right now..and personally, sassy, confident and even a bit of bossy aren't such bad traits!  ;)

I love it when Sophia runs to me from across the room (usually my back is turned loading the dishwasher) and hugs my legs real tight and says: "MAMA!"
I also love it when she comes to me and says, or rather asks for: "KISS" or comes to me with little arms arms stretched out wide and says just like the teletubbies do:"BIG HUG"!  Or when she needs assistance with something she says: "Help, help, please"
This afternoon when I went to get her out of bed from a nap...I found her sitting in her crib rocking her blue bear in her arms so tenderly & lovingly to her lullabyes playing on her CD.

Gosh toddlers are fun here are some of my favorite things
She will bring me the digital camera and say "baby" (she wants to see picutres of herself)
She always thinks its daddy on the phone and say "hi daddy"

Melissa...exactly the same thing here!  Isn't it just too cuuuuuute??? In fact when I give her the phone she puts it against her ear like we do and says: "hi daddy" and continues to babble on in her gibberish.

Another new thing....was soo tickled when I heard her say over the monitor one morning after she woke up: "Happy Birthday to me".... When we wash hands I always sing the Happy Birthday song to her so we are sure that we have soaped our hands thoroughly before rinsing.  ;D

Okay...okay..I'll stop now...  ;D ;D ;D

This thread has warmed my heart and made me smile.

Some of the things I love about Aidan:

The way he won't share his biscuits but if he drops a crumb he'll pick it off the floor and feed it to me
We're teaching him eye contact and he's learning but not quite getting it.  When wanting me to follow him, he'll take my hand and stare at my eyes not watching where he's going so usually ends up walking into the wall
The way his face lights up when I ask him if he'll like some dessert after his main meal
The way he'll point to his food and shake his head when he's had enough.  Then he'll immediately point to his desert!
The way he laughs out loud when he's excited/happy
The way he'll pretend to go to sleep.  He'll lie down and pat his chest and I've got to say 'tired'
The way he laughs when watching teletubbies.  He finds them so hilarious.

There are (obviously) loads more.   This is a lovely thread.  Thank you for starting it.

I have been dealing with some yucky all day morning sickness.  I often open a window when I about to do a stinky job (like change a stinky diaper or take out the garbage) because smells reallly bother me.  I am embarrassed to say, my lo now often sticks her head "out the window" and makes the awful coughing noises I make in order to choke back what I don't want to come up.  The neighboor looked over at her yesterday.  At least I don't think the neighboor has any idea what is going on.  Good thing I don't believe this stage will last forever.  ::)

Our faves:

The way she dances (to everything!): she'll put her arms up, pointer fingers up, alternating them, her knees bend, her feet don't move and her booty goes side to side - it is just so sweet!
The way she walks in when we're in the loo asking "All done, all done?"
The way she says Nope to everything, including "Do you always say no to everything?"
The way she taps the couch so you can put her up there and then she'll tap it again so you'll sit next to her!
The way she gets every frame she can reach so she can tell you who's in the picture!

Amazing thread!

Ok, couldn't resist a couple more  ;) :

The urgent look she gets on her eyes and suddenly darts off when she hears the keys open the front door - then starts dancing "Daddy Daddy"!
The way she hugs her dolls.
The way she shares her food when she doesn't want it anymore!

Ahhh I really needed this thread to come up today.  Thanks Sara.

I love how Gaby's standard answer for any meal or snack is 'cookie'. Our day sounds like this...

"Gaby, would you like toast for breakfast?"   "No, tookie peeeeas"
"Gaby, would you like ronis for lunch?"    "No, tookie peeeeas"
"Gaby, would you like an apple?"   "No, tookie peeeeeas"

Well Freya might be too old to be considered a toddler, so I reckon Eryn might be considered too young to be one, but anyhow... I just love the way that she calls any animal or bird 'cat' and any food 'more', and also how she gives our cat kisses and giggles when the furr tickles her nose!

Don't know how I missed this before but loving it!! ;D

When Nate gets cross at birds at shouts "Naaaaaaaaa" at them
The amazing excitement over seeing an aeroplane - "ooooh oooh plane plane - mama mama plane"
The way he dances and runs round with glee when Thomas the tank engine comes on - "Choo Choo mummy mummy Choo Choo"
When he gets cross with his big sis - "NO Nana (can't quite say Anna :)) Naaarggh " followed by a big raspberry!!
When he can't wait to see big sis in the morning - Nana? Nana? and when I tell him shes still asleep  - he puts his finger to his lips and goes sshhhh - really loud just outside her door and wakes her up  ::) ;D
Watching them both interact - all the time he totally copies her - Monkey see monkey do!!
Watching how Anna looks after him  - "careful Nathan hot" near the tea, and after we had work done by the builders and they didn't clean up well >:( she carefully brought in any nails she found saying "No Nathan sharp"
When Daddy gets home and lies down on the floor Anna will shout"pile on!" and they will both go and jump on him  ;D
Gorgeous big toddler and preschooler hugs and kisses and sleepy cuddles when they lay their head on your shoulder - priceless!

I could go on forever but I'd better stop!!!

aw jenn, that makes me melt too!

theron's developed a few new traits that make me smile  ;D

every bite of food has to be offered to the fan, the cat, and the trees outside, before he eats it.

he has "happy feet" -- stomping his right foot when he's so tickled by something he can't contain it. his hands kind of go crazy too.

he's started putting things "nigh-nigh" -- getting me to kiss his toys good night and laying them in bed and covering them up. yesterday i found him in the bathroom -- he'd laid his little dinosaurs down in a row and was kissing each one in turn  :-*

he has this fervent full body shake for a nod yes. if he does it in his crib (as he did last night when is asked him "do you just want mama to stay here till you fall asleep?  ::) :-[ ), the whole crib shakes.

he's so into our family unit. if i'm at work, he constantly asks DH where i am. if DH is out of the room, he constantly asks me where he is. the only time he's quiet is when we're all doing something together like eating or brushing our teeth!

i know there was another one  ;D

keep 'em coming!

OK who's going to sticky this one for us so we don't lose it?

The way he makes me laugh:

- totally ruined bedtime tonight b/c as I was leaving the room, I thanked him for a lovely day (we went shopping, he was an angel ;)). He said 'nice day, Mummy', and I said 'yes, it was a lovely outing'. He looked shocked and said 'it wasn't a mountain, Mummy' (we went up a mountain last week). I laughed, so he kept on teasing me 'silly Mummy, we went to shops not up a mountain' - cue both of us killing ourselves laughing.

He's still giggling about it over the monitor :D

That is funny, Caroline!

Riley is being so cute lately (in between his teething shrieks!)

I was changing his diaper this morning, and kissed him on his cheek when I was finished, and he kept asking for "another one kiss". It totally melted my heart.

He turns two at the end of the month, so I have been practising with him, "How old are you going to be?" and he answers, "2". Yesterday, when I asked him, he answered "4" and then burst out laughing. I tickled him and said, "No, you're not going to be 4" and then he said, "5?". Cue more laughing. Eventually he said two and clapped for himself. He is so clever!!

You reminded me Jenny -

we've had a couple of family accidents/illnesses recently (and a trip to casualty for ds :P), so he knows about doctors making you 'all better'.

I banged my leg pretty badly today (said a rude word :-X) - ds gave my leg a kiss, pulled me to the front door and said 'come on, Mummy need doctor-lady'.

Love how caring he is - he's always upset when he has a drink/meal and someone else doesn't. Always tries to share :)

That's so sweet Caroline and Jenny :)

I bumped my leg a few weeks ago, said a really rude word and threw the phone on the floor. It smashed in pieces and I said an even ruder word. Scotty didn't kiss me better, but he imitated the word. Now whenever anything falls or smashes he says: Ohhhh F....  ::)

I'm usually not as bad tempered (yeah right) honestly. It was a bad day.

Ds had started that, so we now have him convinced that JCB (the ones that make the diggers ;)) is a swear word. We react like he's said a really rude word, and he thinks it's HILARIOUS ;D

He was in his element last week when we had one doing some work in the garden - the workers kept saying things like 'move the JCB over there' - ds would kill himself laughing, and shout about the man being 'ood' (rude)

Claire has been hiding recently.  She doesn't quite get it though. To her "hide" means get really close and be still and quiet.  After about 3 seconds she bursts out laughing.  :D  I caught her today looking straight at her Elmo and saying "hide elmo," then waiting a few seconds and repeating.  Elmo obviously wasn't cooperating cause after 3 times she said "Elmo NO," and threw him on the floor.  ;D

I love waking up late on Sunday morning (DH is up with DS) and here : Mama, Mama, Mama and having my little guy running in my open arms for a morning kiss and hug.

I love him learning new words left and right, discovering his new abilities, his little giggles and laughter, him applauding himself when he does something right, his will to helpout around the house, how proud he is of his big boy bed and seing him share and hug his little friends when they come over for daycare.

This is such a great time, I love every little thing he does, well ok, I don't like the tantrums that much but it's all part of the exclusive package deal I got with my son.

Lately he's started waking up with a jump and yelling "mama, git up?" and it's just the sweetest sound!

And with the pt'ing he's become a very particular man...and shouts

"OWT OWT mama...me pee pee."

because you know he wants his privacy...and then he comes out in the buff no matter who's around LOL..... :-*

Just HAD to bump this thread, I can't believe we let it slide :-[ :-[. Just read it all and remembering some things from last year I'd forgotten - lovely :-*

OK, so some updated ones (please play everyone else :D)

I love:

- how he likes to 'help' the check-out staff at the supermarket. he likes to pass each item to them personally. takes ages but is really cute :D
- how he has dropped his nap, but sometimes still gets tired in the day. he'll come up and tap me on the leg, and say 'I like my milk and suckie (dummy) and go sleep on sofa please' - give him his milk and suckie, and he'll pass out on the sofa in about 5 mins.
- every night, before he gets into bed, I say "Mummy and Daddy love you very much". one night I forgot ( :-[), and, as I was leaving the room, he says "Mummy and Daddy love me very much". melted in a puddle on the spot :-*
- in the supermarket today, he kept asking for things (toys/books/etc) - I said something like "you can't have too many things because it'll make you spoiled". so he picked one little toy, and he was happy. the whole way around after that, whenever I picked something up, like Daddy's yoghurts, he said - "Daddy can't have all of those, he'll be spoiled". made me laugh (and feel like he'd busted me slightly ;)) ;D

Oh, there are loads, but I can't remember them all ::)

Come on girls, let's get this lovely thread going again!

Now that I have two toddlers, I love to watch the way they converse while playing (nicely  ;) ) and how my DS "parents" my dd...telling her danger, and mama said no, all the while doing it himself....lol.....

The other night after doing our night time ritual, I got up to leave DS's room, and he reached over, threw his arm around my neck and said, " mama, I gonna hold you tight....for two minis"....so I threw my arms around him and held him tight for 10 "minis".... :'(

when i go in to get her in the morning, she claps her hands

when i give her into trouble,, she shimmies over and gives me a huge hollywood kiss,, with Tungus ::)

she wont leave the shop without a receipt, then she hold onto it like its a Ł20 note

when you say, "who's a bad girl", she points to me very time

she claps her hand for everything she does, and everyone has to do it with her

everytime she hears music her hands go above her head and she baby dances

whenever she has a drink she goes "aaaaaaaaaaaaaa"

and Jenn...Lachlan does the same thing as Charlotte...acting so grown up one sec, and back to a baby the next.....so neat to see the dynamics of toddlerhood!

Since DD was born I have always told her I love her to the Moon and back.
Now she says to me..."mama, I love you as much as the moon"......LOL  ;D

Freya's nearly 4 now, so too old for a toddler, but still hasn't let go of the phrase "hello lady, what's your name called?" to every adult female she meets :D;

Eryn is starting to talk and stand there flapping her arms shouting "mama... duddle" when she wants to be picked up, she has also just learned to shake her head for 'no', but ends up shaking her whole body ;D;

I love it when she 'duddles' our (very tolerant) cat by pinning her to the floor like a giant starfish!

Wow! 13 pages. I'm just getting started but I wanted to add some, because many days I just want to get online and mention the cute things that my toddlers are doing - which, naturally, I'm going to forget now that I want to add to this thread. ::)

DD is 20 mo. I love the way she says things like, "No way!" or demands things, only to be met with a "be nice young lady" and then she changes her tune to a "please?". Or when she tries to sing "I lah you, I lah you, big hug" and lays a HUGE hug on me. Those hugs and kisses included are her specialty. Oh, how I love those giant hugs!

Thankfully, ds still loves to hug and kiss as well, though he doesn't do it as spontaneously any more. But he DOES love to runrunrunrun towards me at full speed and topple me over with a hug.

Both are getting independent and want to do things on their own. DS's favorite phrase these days is "My turn Foti" and sometimes has a FIT if I put the spoon in his bowl instead of giving it to him to do it. ::)  I think I've overdone the "you're such a big guy now". :P  Now, he's also starting to "spell", and he'll put magnetic letters together at random and "spell" a word, which he kind of does read. :o  Oh, and there's already a short list of words that he's able to read. :o :o

They are such a handful but I just love my 2 little bugs!!

And I thought we were good with singing the alphabet.  Last night she ran around the kitchen/living room singing "wheels on the bus go round and round" over and over.  Is that aerobic or anaerobic exercise?   :D

Jenn, Claire has been singing that song as well.  She loves the part where the bus driver tells them to "MOVE ON BACK!"

Yesterday out of the blue Claire said, "I love you so much."  I melted into a pile right there.

Can I join in? Some of the posts have really made me chuckle, and some have melted my heart!

Just wanted to share what Leo did last night (16 months). He spilled some of his milk, gave a big 'UH-OH', toddled over to the packet of baby wipes, took one out, went back to the spill, mopped it up ver vigorously, toddled over to the bin, deposited the baby wipe into it, sat down, clapped his hands and said 'Good Boy'!  :D

So sweet!

Thought I would add a funny one...  David (now 26 months - WOW) just learned what "dust bunnies" are, as we have just moved into a house with hard would floors, before all carpet.  Well he has been helping me vacuum up the dust bunnies left mostly by the dogs that accumulate in a matter of minutes.  ::)

Sooo, yesterday, we were walking down the hall towards a bedroom and he started running and playing his chase game (usually it's one of the animals that he pretends is chasing him.)  He ran to me and was yelling "Mommy, rabbits are coming, rabbits are coming!!!" and jumped into my arms.  It took me a minute or so to figure out what he was talking about with rabbits???   ;D ::) (guess I need to be vacuuming more than every other day!  :o)

Oh I just love toddlehood.  Zach is 2 1/2 and I wish I could just stop time and he would never grow up.

Everyday he learns a new word and adds more and more words to his sentences.

The best part of my day is when he comes up to me out of the blue and give me a Great big hug.

When I was a little girl, my mom used to pat my back when she hugged me.  I used to ride down the rode sitting beside her patting her back (back then you did not use car seats).

Now Zach pats my back whenever he hugs me :)  Just makes me melt.

YES!
My lo's both pat the back of those they are hugging. Did I do that? I honestly don't remember teaching them that BUT I do pat their backs if they are ever in my arms and I'm rocking back and forth trying to comfort them (not much for ds anymore but I still do it for dd). I wonder if that's where that came from?

Mispronounciations :D

Some of my favourites of ds's:

shandelillo  (chandeliar)
consergery  (conservatory)
po-pat  (postman pat)

Oh, and I love the way his mind works :D. We were going out today, and ds was wearing a shirt and tie (so 8)). When we put them on, he said "I like this Mummy", then he said "makes me look like a doctor" ;D ;D

How sweet! I love the way their minds work like that, too.

I (usually) find it funny that, for dd, "clean up" simply means moving some toys from one location to another. ;D

The simple pleasures.  I have a bowl soaking in the sink with h2o and soap.  Charlotte has been playing with it and a spoon for the last 20 minutes.  Why have I not done this sooner?  Clean bowl, happy toddler!  (silly mama!!)

Today we went to a game store to look for a new video game.  We have a WII and I thought maybe he could play it.

He kept running over to different games and saying clear as day "Wow, check this out", "Cool".
It was really cute.

Jenn:  Zach loves helping wash bottles that have been soaking (so already clean really).  He will play for a while :)

Ephalent = Elephant (rory has being saying ephalent for about a year now  :)  )

Here are some:

Snow = No - I want my "no book
Santa Claus - Sounds like Green grass
French Fries - Sounds like gin gin fries

Funny other things he says clear as day.  Big words too.

Look - Wook

I would love for my lo's to enjoy playing with water in the sink. Unfortunately it never stays in the sink or in the near vicinity. ::)  And, somehow, dd always finds something that I would prefer she not be playing with that I had not noticed before.

I love how her language is now. She's learning new words by the dozens, but somehow always manages to cut off the first syllable lol!

Also, suddenly everything is "Wa sat?" Sounds sooooo sweet in portuguese!

Likewise, Eryn copies all words said to her, which is so lovely as Freya didn't say anything till she was 2.5 years so we missed this whole learning to talk phase (she just spoke in sentences one day ::))...

...but I came here to post this particular one that she's learned from my mum ;D who says:

"excuse me please - beep beep" (I guess a bit like a car horn when you want someone to move) so Eryn just does the "beep beep" bit quite insistently when she wants you to move out of the way!

for me the favourite thing is how we've become like best friends (most of the time) chatting away and sharing jokes and finding out about life.  I even love the ten million WHY we have a day because I usually manage to turn it round to ask her a question after a few answers.

I wanted to burst out laughing right then and there, but instead just asked her if she didn't like it, and she replied no. She'll get there, but lol anyways!

Hi..this is a great thread....

oscar is at the stage of trying to name colours but calls red -po, green -bipsy, purple/blue - tinitini and yellow - la la....you've guessed it....too much teletubbies...but he is recognising and differentiating colours....

and everything is one of these categories- sick, broke (broken) work (meaning fixed), sa (sad), sca (scared) , pappy (happy)... this evening we visited my in laws and saw that FIL's car was not in the garden...so I presumed he was not home. Turns out he was at home, just the car is in for a service and to have a few things fixed....so Oscar began talking to him, saying blah blah car....sick....broke.....dziadzia (Polish for Grandad).....car....blah...blah....doctor,.....work......Of course, my 74 year old first time grandad FIL just rolled his eyes till I translated for him...and he was then amazed, or so he said.

Boys and their machines!!!
love it!

You think you have worries...!

My two were playing a game of 'boys' in the bath which involved them holding a toy knife (from their teaset) perpendicular to their girlie bits, shrieking with laughter, and (Freya) saying "look mummy, we've got willies!" ::) :-[

Classic Freudian penis envy if you ask me! ;D

I ask Charlotte all the time for a cuddle and she looks at me with her head on one side and says no 99% of the time (it's a game).  Saturday it was SO hot DH sprayed her down in the garden with the hose.  I was lying on the sunbed feeling icky with MS.  She walked to the end of the sunbed dripping wet and said 'Mummy, cuddle?'  Who says 2 year olds don't have a sense of humour!!!  Of course I couldn't say no so ended up wet as well.
