Mixed Formula Wrong
« on: February 24, 2007, 15:31:17 pm »
So, we decided to start our 4 month old on formula bottles at night feedings.  Mostly so that my husband could feed him and I could have a break to catch up on sleep.

Unfortunatley, my husband gave him his first formula bottle last night and he mixed it wrong.  He doubled the amount of formula to water ratio (1 scoop to 1 ounce of water).

Is he going to be OK?  What should I do (besides getting angry at my DH)?

Thanks!
Kelly

He will be just fine!

It could cause a little bit of constipation so make sure he gets plenty of fluids.

Its an easy mistake to make! I took a while to get used to making up formula.. so I used the premixed sort for a while until I was confident!

I agree with Helen, he will be fine.  Just keep an eye on him for constipation as Helen said.

Have you got any of those containers where you can put the scoops of formula into?  We had them and I used to measure out all the formula for the day, so that when we were tired or just not concentrating, we did not make any mistakes.

And of course it helped for when DH was doing the bottles  ;)

Agree with the others, he could get a little bit bunged up....

But when things get "moving" again in the nappy department I would suggest having dh on nappy changing duty to serve as a reminder not to be a silly boy again!!!

We have a round Avent one - it is split into three chambers to put the correct amount of formula in each one ie 3 bottles' worth.  The lid has an opening which you just turn to tip in the amount in one chamber and bingo.  It's really handy.

It is so easy to make that kind of mistake.  Just watch for the constipation.
