yes Judy, regression is typical on day 5 or so...so they are right on track for that.  stick with it, you're nearly there!

I also wonder if Cole is self-weaning...he rarely takes the right breast anymore :?   If so he's fighting me the whole time.  Not biting (did that for about a day last week but hasn't since)  So I am pumping to keep up my supply just in case it's a phase.  I'm not going to mention the t#$th&*^ word because I just don't know if that's the case!

And Judy-I agree with you on how you're feeling.  I felt so awful yesterday after being up in the night.  At least when I fed I was relaxed and went right back to sleep.  Now it takes me at least 30 minutes so it's really draining me.  And no, I didn't get DH up. I woke him at 7:30 and then he said-you should have got me at 7:00
He keeps saying he'll read BW so that he can understand the technique, but he hasn't yet.  He's doing stuff around the house though that I've wanted done for ages.  As long as that gets done then I can sleep when Cole naps and I should be able to manage.  I don't mind doing all the night wakings...but I do want him to get up when I ask because I usually only ask for a reason (very tired or time for breakfast or like today-throbbing foot!)

by the way mel, I forgot to mention.  Cole BFs 5 times a day (was 6 until 2 nights ago) and has 3 solid meals.  Usually 1 or 2 cubes of veggies or fruit and 3 or so tbsp of cereal with each meal.  He's a little piggie.  I think I'll start finger foods this weekend.  Want DH around to witness it.

Well our nite went something like this. Brady went to bed at 7pm, up again at 11pm, could not at all get him back down until 1am...pu/pd constantly, wow exhausting...
then he slept again till 4:30 and was up till 7am.....again
then went down at 7am back up again at 7:45 right on the dot....I've been doing pu/pd but he isn't taking the hint....doesnt' seem to work, but I'm still giving it all I've got.    :(

Judy: sorry you had a setback last nite, hoping it is good today and tonight...maybe just a test like you said....

Traci: sorry about your foot, hope it feels better soon. I can relate with the DH situation, sadly my dh doesn't do nite feedings or breakfast feedings either. I usually have him feed Brady his supper, but that about sums it up.... sometimes a bit more help would be great, but what can I do....   -------I must be slow today, cause I have no idea what the t#$th&*^ word   is Traci???

Naomi - Brady has been doing the same thing, while still nursing, pulling his head back and pulling away, while with me still in his mouth...OUCH!!!

Holly, I think Traci was referring to that phase when your baby gets those bumps on their gums...we don't want to say the word, b/c we keep thinking our lo's are doing that and then they don't.  So, we don't want to jinx it by saying the word.  (Well, that's me, anyway).

So fun to chat last night!  All the ttc talk got me in the mood to start...but since I'm still on bc, I guess we settled for just practicing.

So, after my post about all of Ryan's sleeping, I'm worried.  He went down at 7 pm, up at 8 or so (I think he thought it was a catnap...did that on Sat. night, too.    )  I bf-ed him for about 3 mins., since he hadn't taken a good feed before bed.  Right back down and didn't hear from him again until I went to check at 7:50!      That would be almost 13 hours!  But, I think he was already awake, b/c he sat right up and was excited to see me.  And, my other clue to him being awake is that he was getting really cranky at 9:20 and I couldn't keep him up past 9:30 and he went right down.  I can feel all the darts being sent to the computer from those of you who are having trouble through the night, but is it possible for a baby to get too much sleep?  Or am I making up issues?

Okay, well, I guess I should go do something...it'll probably be a 45 minute nap since I just posted that.

Holly-HUGE hugs to you.  What an exhausting night.  Is Brady's reflux improved with his new meds?  I hope that might not be part of the issue for you.  Remember to be consistent and he should catch on in a few days.  And Kate was right.  The "word" has to do with them chewing a lot, drooling, sore bum.  BUT Cole doesn't exhibit all the symptoms so I'm not sure he is.  I think I'm just making up excuses for his wakings.

Kate-it's not a dart I'm throwing but a very pointy, long arrow :D   But I'm throwing it in the nicest way    Seriously...I wouldn't fret about it.  Enjoy it while you can until the next milestone hits and he starts to wake:)

Cole had something like a 30-35 nap this morning.  He was actually grizzly too.  Not like him at all.  I think he was hungry though because after he fed he was happier. This nap was after 2.5 hours of A time from 5:30-8:00am.  Maybe DH didn't wind him down well enough :?   He's gone down again after another 2.5 hours A time and I soooo hope he doesn't get up at 45 min. b/c he rarely goes back down for me.  I just keep thinking of Danielle who has 45 min. morning nap and longer afternoon.  If only I could get a 2 hour nap out of him things would be much smoother I think.

My ankle actually feels better after raising it up while DH had Cole and I took a short nap.  Going to go ice it now and read the newest Diana Gabaldon book...Breath of Snow and Ashes!  LOVE IT!

Naomi-we finally get to see a recent pic:)  I'm no good at telling if babies look like their parents...who do Riley and Jay take after??  I think we should both get our hair cut shorter...like you had in your hospital pic.  Whatcha say?  are you game?

Shoot, I missed the chat last night.   :(  It was a toss up between that or Batman Begins.

No chance to catch up on the read but just wanted to update the pu/pd and DF situation.

pu/pd has been working well but only when I do it.  DH tends to want to swing or rock and can't just stand still.  Mind you it's only day 3

Dropping the DF has been a disaster!!  I've tried moving the time up - he still wakes up @11 and wants more.  Last night I tried giving it in a bottle.  He was still asleep but pushing the bottle away and shaking his head.
Haley - I'm inspired by you and  think I'll have to go cold turkey with LO.  He's only eating breakfast and dinner right now so maybe if I add lunch, I can drop the DF altogether.

Anyone else had any success dropping DF?

I want to post a pic of Sol & me but our Photoshop is on the fritz.

Good morning... well... it's morning anyway.

My plan last night... pu/pd for any wakings prior to 10 pm. Feed between 10 and 11. pu/pd for any further wakings until 4 am at which time I could feed if she wakes.

Here is how the night went.
5:30 Nurse
6:15 pm Bedtime (no catnap)
6:20 nurse (as part of the routine... she didn't really take any)
9:20 pm wake... pu/pd for 6 minutes
9:50 pm wake... nursed
1:44 am wake... pu/pd for 1h 50 min DH came in after 50 minutes and took over.
3:45 am wake (asleep for only 5 min) pu/pd by DH
4:01 am wake... nursed
7:15 am up for the day

Needless to say, DH is very tired and so am I.

Arwyn was just screaming as I tried to put her back down last night after 50 minutes. When DH took over, she was so quiet... I walked in after 5 minutes to find DH holding her and swaying. I told him not to do that, for God's sake, I could do that!

Anyway, I did it again 5 minutes later and woke her up. I couldn't help it and did it again 30 min later at which time, DH yelled at me and swore in a very loud voice. Well... that must have scared the living daylights out of DD to fall back asleep because DH came back to bed about 1 min. later.

Her morning nap was terrible. I got her to sleep and she woke 10 min. later as I was getting in the shower so I raced out of the bathroom and nursed her back to sleep (sitting naked on her futon  ) She woke up 30 minutes later and I am just too exhausted to do anything about it. So... here we are... watching Baby Einstein and mommy is on the computer.

I can only dream of a better night tonight. 2 hours is too long to pu/pd  and I am scared I will lose my determination if there is no improvement. Traci... you are right on... at least with nursing, you are relaxed and the baby goes back to sleep very quickly!

Thanks so much for all your input ladies.  I realize that Carter eats about the same as everyone else (4-5 bf's and 3 solid meals of 2-3oz each) but he is seriously lacking in the sleep department at the moment!!  He sleeps 8:30pm-6:30am (so 10 hours) and for the last few days only 2 naps of 30mins each  :(   He used to do 2 naps of 90mins each up until a week ago    Boy, do I miss that!!!

This morning he woke up after 25 mins so I was determined to get him back to sleep!  I stayed in his room for another 45 mins doing pu/pd and he just screamed the whole time .... I am in awe of anyone who can do pu/pd!!!!

Well, it sounds like he is awake already from nap #2 ... after only 15 mins   :x    Where did my good napper go???  I hope it is only a phase!!!

Oh Ankie, you get as much sleep as you can when Arwyn sleeps, it sounds like you need it.

Cute photo of Sophie, and lovely of Naomi and Jay.

Traci and Naomi, I've done the shorter hair thing in the past couple of months and I'm really pleased I did, so go for it!

We had a great night last night, not right the way thru, but when Daniel woke at 3.30am I PUPD twice and then he went to sleep. I did use our music which plays for 15mins to help, but hopefully that won't be considered a prop just yet. THe best bit was I didn't use t-powder. Then he slept thru until 6am. This is past his horrible 5amish wake up. Yay! He may have been awake just before 6am, but that was when I first heard him. I didn't get up to him until about 6.15am. Then he had his bottle at 6.30am. Quite happy, not grizzly while waiting so that was good.

Do any of you feed solids just after milk? I kind of did that thismorning, instead of waiting an hour. It was only about 15-20mins. He seemed to take about the same amount, if not more, and seemed happier about it. I may try giving him his solids for lunch first today, if I can stretch him to 11am. The nurse said to start the switch slowly by doing this meal first. So I'll give it a go today if the timings work, ie he has a long enough sleep. I've just put him down now at 8.20am, so we'll see.

As for my cold turkey weaning, I'm going okay still I think. A little tired feeling, more so than normal, and a bit tingly sometimes, but otherwise okay.

Well I'm off back to bed for a little nap too. Everything else can just wait.

Oh ANKIE...HUGS!!! Stick with it, as JUDY says things can only get better.
NAOMI, I think I mentioned that feeding twice a day has worked out soo well for me and it really eased transition into working. I think I would have been a total wreck going back to work and completely weaning all at once. I think once I settle back to work, I will think about weaning those two feeds...maybe when Sam is 2!!!! I get too damn emotional just thinking about it.
My dilemma, I want to TTC at some stage. Those of you with older children, are there any success stories of conceiving while BF?
RICHELLE, congrats on TTC, I don't know how I missed such big news.
JUDY, the book does mention regression but well done on sticking to it.
HAYLEY, I wish I had your guts re weaning. Love the pic of the both of you. Daniel has the cutest smile!
CATHY, Sam has 4 milk feeds and 3 solid meals. His solid meals are about 3-5 oz-breakfast he has fruit and prunes(to keep him regular), lunch, meat and veg, dinner veg.
TRACI and NAOMI-post pics when you have had your hair cut. I really need mine cut but need style ideas..
Must rave about my dh! :)  He read BW when I did and has been on board ever since. When we decided that we needed to stop doing night feeds, he handled all the night wakings. We now take it in turns if Sam needs settling and it depends on who needs to work the next day.

Hi Everyone,
Naomi pm'd me and let me know about this thread... I was afraid to pop in, I thought it was a pretty small group of you chatting away and I didn't want to interupt....

But I am here now and just want to introduce myself.

I'm Jody, 24 (25 next month) and I have 8 month old identical twin daughters. We are 7 hours away from my family, 3 hours from Dh's family (not that they help at all  ) so we are taking on the twins by ourself! We also have a pug named max- our 1st baby! We are currently building a new house and we should be moving in just after the girls 1st birthday ( I know we're crazy!)...
Other than that the girls are ona 4 hour EASY, sleep 730pm- 7am, and they are both Angels!!

I hope to keep up with the posts and I look forward to chatting,

Take care,

Roz-I have no idea about the DF as I'm still doing it.  Well-he wakes to feed but I'm still doing a night feed.  Good luck!

Hannah-love the pic.  She looks really LONG in that pic.  And weren't you just a touch worried about her falling off?

Ankie-I so hear you on the DH issue.  My DH offered to get Cole the other night for an 11pm waking and when I heard him wake again he was coming out of the spare room with him from sleeping on the futon   We hadn't yet started pupd so I guess he just did what he thought was best to get him to sleep ( I had been guilty of similar actions in recent weeks).  Today he offered to settle him back after his 30 min. nap but I just knew Cole wouldn't have it.  My DH is similar to Judy's in that he would cave and do some patting/rocking or other form of accidental parenting.  Until he reads the book and understand WHY I do it this way I figure I'll do it myself.  Hopefully it won't take too many more days.

Cathy-What are your awake intervals?  Maybe he's ready to be up longer.  This type of thing can happen overnight.  Maybe try extending by 15 minutes for the first nap and see how it goes.  If he seems overly tired do quiet activities to keep him up.

Hayley-I wait an hour for solids but I'm thinking of doing it closer together.  I wait in the morning so DH can do breakfast.  Guess he'll either have to be up at 5:45 or forfeit that privelege.  It's his only quality time with Cole though so I hope he agrees to get his bum out of bed.

Jody-Welcome to our craziness.  Lucky you with your two angels :P   btw, I'm a bit confused.  The birth dates in your sig show your los born in may, but you say they are 8 months :?  :?  :?  Anyway, maybe i'm so tired I just can't do the math.

okay, i'm off to relax a bit during the catnap.

Traci you need more sleep girl :) Jody's signature says MARCH 19/05 (so 05 is for the year not the month)  :)

I agree on the DH front.  My dh came in the room at 4.15am today and I just said very quietly "I don't want you to do any patting or rubbing or anything like that" so he stopped in his tracks and then left :)
