Title: Started Solids, but formula is still 40+ oz.
Post by: ~Angie~ on May 06, 2006, 19:19:32 pm
My LO has been taking 40-45 oz. of formula in a day. We are now on three solid meals a day and she is still taking 40+ oz. (5 8oz. bottles, plus what is mixed in with her cereal). I have been giving her only 1-2 T. at each 'meal', but today she hasn't been satisfied with that. So, I fed her more and she took 4 T. I am worried that she is eating too much. Should I cut her down to 4 bottles so she is only getting 32-35 oz. a day or just let her stay at 40+ oz.?

TIA

I'd go ahead and start increasing her solids so that she's closer to 32 oz per day, which is what's usually recommended for a baby that age. Formula will still be her main source of nutrition, but 40 oz is a lot. You can either cut a bottle or cut down the amount in each bottle, it's really up to you. And of course, if the increase in solids and decrease in formula isn't working for her, there's absolutely nothing wrong with going back up to 40 oz. 32 oz is just an average, and some babies are just hungrier than others!

Thanks,
I'll try cutting back each bottle by an oz. or two.

All i can say is you are very lucky your DD is taking that much formula at this age. My DD wasn't much of a formula drinker ever but loves her food. So keep it going and as tylermommy said increase her solid intake a little if she will take it, if her formula intake drops a little she is still in the range she needs.
