Title: Cannot tolerate most fruit... constipated.

Cannot tolerate most fruit... constipated.

He cannot tolerate apples, pears or prunes. I have fed him peaches and mangos. Juice seems to bother him too. What do you do?

Diluted freshly squeezed orange juice is a possibility but there may be quite a high chance that he will react to orange juice. I know my ds does but then he reacts to lots of foods. The other possibility is to get a prescription for lactulose or something similar. Have you tried giving extra water as this can also help.

I tried starfruit today. boiled it, juiced it and mixed with water. It was delicious! We'll see if it helps....

He gets about 1/4-1/2 c. of solids a day (in his mouth, lol). green beans, sweet potatoes, asparagus, pancakes, waffles (amaranth and milo) mostly finger foods, but I started including purees: pumpkin, carrots, peaches, (banana only once a week) typical stuff. I am trying zucchini (courgette) today.

Loved to death,

I find that peas, beans, asparagus and squash really get things moving. One of my girls BMs tend to be on the firm side, but not if I feed her 2oz of squash per day. That and lots of water!

Thanks Lu, what kind of squash?? I just started squashes with Jake b/c my mom says it made me gassy when I was a baby ::) I have tried courgette, and I bought a butternut squash, but I am too lazy to prepare it.

I am trying flax oil too, a different forum recommended it. I found a great site about it, and posted it in someone else's thread. Since I take fish oil for my colitis, it makes sense that flax oil would help.

I have also heard that flax oil is supposed to be good. I think I will try that myself as my ds keeps getting constipated at the moment. He also reacts to most fruit and as he has a severe food aversion will not eat other things that help. James used to really like flax oil when we used to put it into things which really surprised me as I hatedthe taste of it. Here is hoping he will still take it.

Kelly, the amount for infants was 1 t. a day, I am not sure how much James would need. Here is the link in case it helps, or you might already know how much James needs. ::) infant constipation. I have also heard that probiotics are very good for food allergies and constipation. Jake tolerates a very small amount, about 2 pinches in a bottle twice a day.

Hey!

I use acorn squash, butternut squash - more the winter hard shell squashes, not the summer squashes, although I suppose they could do it too.

I bake them in the oven about once every two weeks, then freeze them in ice cube trays. Defrost when you need them. It's perfect because you don't have to prepare that often.
