THis is how nap time is looking....
« on: January 22, 2006, 11:57:45 am »
DD 13 weeks never napped, am starting to try and get her routine established but it is hell.  I started wind down an hour after she woke... put her in cot and left her cooing... for about 30 mins when it turned to shouting and then shrieking... went in to settle her and she was all smiles and up for playing.. by then 2 hours since she woke.  Then we have 30 mins of crying then 15 mins of totao and utter hysterics, bright red in the face and properly screaming like a tantrum.  What am 'i supposed to do when she gets to this stage?

And what do /i do to get her remotely sleepy? she just never seems to be :(

Hi there,

I am sorry you're having a difficult time. Are you saying DD has NEVER napped, or just started this recently?  Have you read Baby Whisperer or Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems?  I would recommend trying soothe your DD using pat/shush method.  Ssssh in her ear while patting her back.  if she is a back sleeper, roll her on her side to get to her back.

If she has NEVER napped, have you discussed it with your doctor to rule out any medical issues?

We'll figure your DD daughter out!  It will just take some time.  Hang in there, okay?

She has never properly napped, unless we are out in car or buggy.  She cat naps 15 mins here and there after feeds when I can't wake her... I am convinced she actually sleeps and feeds sometimes, like a daytime dream feed!

She's quite happy with that, I have no time though so trying to get a routine going but she's having none of it. I've never been so stressed and nor has she.  Today looked like this

9am wake, wasn't hungry, I put her in chair whilst I cleared kitchen and had breakfast
10am feed
10.30 wind down and in cot by 10.40 cooed then shouted
11.10-12.00 hysterics
12.00 asked for food, 5 mins feed
12.05 sleep 45 mins I had shower and dressed
12.50 wake
14.00 normal feed
14.30 wind down but ended up screaming fit, was nearly sick
15.00 held her to calm her down.. fell asleep 40 mins I managed lunch
16.00 feed
17.30 feed been awake ever since

She fights sleep, I think her room is too light, have ordered a blackout blind.

Pat/shush doesn't calm her, neither does pu/pd she just works herself up to a red faced fit :(

Have you considered she may have reflux?

Hi,

I think we may have discovered your issue.  If she is catnapping during feed then she will not be tired enough come naptime.  Babies most certainly can sleep and suck/feed at the same time.  I suggest you keep her awake during all feeds and see how you get on from there. If you see her drifting off sit her up right away and burp her or something. By shouting it sounds like she's telling you she's not tired.

Let us know how it goes!
