Title: Coughing as a sign of a food allegy/intolerance??

Olly has had a cough for a while now (months). It comes and goes but is worse at night. Last week we had 2 bad nights with wind and coughing. Tonight again he is coughing very badly (in bed with DH now trying to settle him), he is also a bit windy. I have noticed that last week this was after he had pears at nursery, although I noticed this as he was windy in relation to his fructose malabsorption. Tonight he is mainly coughing but DH said he could hear his tomach gurgling - nursery said he had tinned mixed fruit salad - I am fairly sure these normally contain pear?

I am wondering if the coughing is a co-incidence or it could be a reaction?

Any ideas?

My brother gets a very bad cough and night time especially if he has too much dairy.  They told him he had asthma when he was little but cutting out the dairy solved the issue.

Yes, my little brother had very bad cough and it was because of dairy. He cut all dairy for few years and now it is gone now.
My sister thinks that dairy can cause crup too, we have 2 example in our family.
But the pear can cause bad wind!

E has asthma and he coughs like that when it is not under control.  In Feb we are going for allergy testing as he often gets post nasal drip which can add to his cough so they think he may have some allergies.

I know dairy can produce mucous but as he has a milk allergy he doesn't have any. I guess I will have to trial the pear again and see  :'(

Food can cause a cough, does with me, I'm noticing since I started cutting out foods & re-trying them.

But a night-time cough can also be asthma &/or dustmite allergy too.
 You could try putting all his bed linen (pillows/quilts/blankets) through the dryer for 30mins & vacuum the mattress to see if that helps too.
