15wk old suddenly cut down on oz!!!???
« on: December 23, 2006, 11:57:49 am »
hi all, hope you can shed some light on this.  about 2 weeks ago my dd went from eating 5-6oz per feeding every 3.5hours to 3-4oz ???  She still eats at 3am every night but did so before.  She is a very happy baby (especially since we switched her to hypoallergenic formula 1.5mths ago)

My question-should i be concerned?  she is a very big baby, at 3mth checkup she was 15lbs (95th percentile).  is 3-4oz a feeding enough for her?  i know you all think i should probably change her to 4hour easy but i am afraid that she will still eat the same and she can only handle 1.5 A time max.

thanks so much-
jenn

We had to put our LO onto a 4 hour easy before she could handle the 4 hour awake times.  She was about 15 weeks aswell at the time.  We had a lot of EASAEASAEAS... but her awake times have adjusted since then and after a while we had a good 4 hour EASY going.

I was also worried that she would not eat any more when I pushed her feeds back, but things greatly imporved.  If they don't improve, then you can always switch back, and your LO is not going to suffer.  When thinking of changing your EASY routine, it is always a time of watching your LOs cues and adjusting to meet their needs... it takes some work, but is really worth it in the end.

Good luck!

Have you thought about trying a faster flowing teat?

Is she showing any signs of teething? That can affect their appetite too.

I agree that you need to transition to either a 3.5 hr EASY or even a 4hr EASY.  The pp is correct in that she may not be ready for the A times that the 4 hr EASY require....do the A times slowly...don't increase too quickly or you will end up with an overtired baby.  No one wants that!

Your lo sounds very textbook and is giving you some strong cues....if she's not finishing those bottles, which is something she needs to do, then push the times back.

I had the same thoughts as you that my baby couldn't handle the A times with a 4 hour EASY but he actually starting eating more when we went to 4 hours. We did have a mixed up EASAEASA etc. for a while but it all sorted itself out after a while.
Dominic went from 5oz ish every 3 hours to pretty much 8oz every 4 hours.
