Recipe recommendations for combining fruit & veg?
« on: May 19, 2006, 19:27:16 pm »
Hey guys,

I've got a VERY fussy eater on my hands and as much as I would like him to experience one food at a time to know its true taste, I've decided I need to start mixing fruit into his veggies so he's at least getting a bit of veg.  So, do you all have favourite recipes or at least combinations of fruits and veggies that your LO's love?  I've tried banana mixed with sweet potato, apple mixed with sweet potato...can't remember the others cuz I guess they weren't a hit, LOL!

Thanks!

Sarah
P.S Bananas are his favourite so extra points if you provide me with a banana/veg recipe.   ;D

Good that banana's a favorite because the flavor is strong enough to hide just about anything! Tyler used to be a fan of banana and greens like spinach, kale, and broccoli. Yes, I know, EWWWWW. But for the longest time, that was the only way he'd eat anything green.

Seriously, try not to think about how it tastes. Babies like the weirdest stuff, and it only gets worse when they're toddlers (Tyler asked for ketchup in his cottage cheese today. Blech!). Throw some banana into anything and see how it goes over!

Banana/avocado
Potato/carrot/apple

I think that pear or apple would go with most veges (beans, brocolli). Might sound yuck, but I'd just go for it and reduce the fruit as your lo gets used to it - I did this with my ds, I used to mix pear with almost everything for a long time and he's now fine.

Funny, I have the opposite problem, Ella loves her veggies, does not love fruit, only one she really likes I recently introduced was pureed blueberries  :-\ A little harder to find in jars and harder to do myself. Anyways, to get her fruits into her I mix either squash, sweet potatoes or carrots with apples, peaches, pears or apricots (she really likes these mixed together). If you are using bananas I would probably mix it with the veggies above as they are quite neutral and absorb the flavour of things mixed with them. HOpe this helps! Sarah
