4.5 months - how many night time feeds?
« on: May 21, 2006, 02:27:27 am »
We are currently battling a wake up our lo is having that started about 3 weeks ago.  He wakes up somewhere between 11-12:30 but never the same time.  Up until then, he was sleeping from 7:30-at least 1:30-2:00 without a feed.  He doesn't seem hungry during this wake up when my DH goes in as he can put him back to sleep quick and he won't wake up until 2:30-4:00 for a feed.  If I go in (DH works nights sometimes so I have to) I can't settle him and by 1:30 or so he wants to be fed.
He has been on 4 hour EASY for about 3 weeks now, doing well through the day on it.  He is 4.5 months old and 2 weeks ago we also introduced a tbsp of rice cereal once a day.  I don't dream feed.  Finally got him to take it after 6 or 7 weeks of trying when he was 3 months old but he started waking up more at night because of it so we dropped it again - I preferred getting up to feed him two times rather than dealing with the extra wakings that were random.
Now I'm wondering if I SHOULD be feeding him at the first wake up and then later for the second?  I'm not sure because he was going on only one feed for a while before he went to 4 hour EASY.  We have been trying to elimintate this waking for a while when it suddenly hit me that the start of this problem coincided with his full transition to 4 hour EASY.... :-\

If your dh can settle him, I think it's safe to assume he doesn't need a feed at that time.  When you go in, he knows he can get milk so he wants it.  Make sense?

I understand you have tried the df in the past and it hasn't worked, but it may be a good time to try it again.  I could'nt do it until my lo was around 5 or 6 months.  Then it worked like a charm.  You may find that that is what he needs to get through the entire night or maybe just one more waking.  If you decide to try it, give it one full week to make sure he's had a chance to catch on.

It also seems like his night waking almost coincides with the starting of solids which is quite normal.  It is hard on their digestive systems, etc, so they do tend to wake more.
