gone off 3pm bf
« on: May 31, 2006, 09:14:51 am »
my lo (just turned 9mo) has gone right off his late pm bf.

he is normally bf at 7am, 3pm and 7pm but just doesnt want 3pm bf, even if it is expressed and in a bottle.

i this ok should i stop offering and jsut feed him first and last thing.  should i replace 3pm bf with a snack and water??

he jsut seems a little young to be on two bf a day but i cant force him eh??

Have you tried expressing and offering in a sippy?  Perhaps that and a snack?

I would say at 9 months you should still be offering at least 3 feeds a day.  Milk should be their #1 source of nutrition through the first year.

have continued to try and feed him milk - bf in every position in every room in the house.... have expressed straight into a bottle and tried to give it him in every position and let him feed himself but he just chewed it! (he has his ebm in a bottle x3 each week at nursery so he is used to it)  offered ebm in his sippy cup which he loves but still does not want milk!!!!!!  he takes water at this time from his cup (after i have tried milk).........
can you think of anything else????

What is his solid intake?  How much and how many meals?

currently:

7am - bf
8am - breakfast (half a weetabix a tbsp other cereal)
10.30am - snack (biscuit or breadstick or fruit) and water
1pm lunch (cooked veggie meal, about 4 tbsp and fruit or yoghurt)
3pm - usually bf
6pm - tea (cooked veggie meal and fruit or pudding)
7pm - bf

his appetite isnt really very consistent but he does generally eat about 3-4 tablespoons and the same for pudding. i tend to always make too much and will feed him until he declines any more. he has always bf well and seemed to love it as much i do.
i feel like he is too young to be on jsut two bf a day even though he has a well established solid food intake.
thanks for your help!

Hi Sarah,

This is how I organize my little guy's day.  He takes three feeds just fine.  Maybe you just need to rearrange the times a little bit.  I bottle feed now, but I don't think that matters in this situation.

Here goes.

8 bottle
9 breakfast
12 lunch
2: bottle
4: snack
5:30 Dinner
8 bottle

It would make for less time inbetween each bf.... rather than a big stretch in the morning and early afternoon.  Hope this helps.
