I would like to get my LO to eat more during the day in hopes of getting him to sleep longer at night.  Currently he eats about 4-5 oz oz at each night feed (1:30 am and 3:30 0r 4:00am), and about the same during the day except for his  am feeds which are 2.5-3 oz.  I have tried to lessen the amount of food he gets for his night feeds but then he wakes even more often (probably because he's hungry).  How long does it take before he will take more during the day and just sleep at night?
DS is 3 months old and is on a 3.5 hour EASY.

Thanks, ladies!

Susan

Yes, I have read that.  I am wondering how long it takes before they don't wake up, or if by waking up it's a sign that he REALLY needs those night feedings.  I was hoping to get some replies from others who have tried to eliminate night feedings but end up waking up more/longer instead and their advice.  Thanks anyway.

Hi Susan,
I think all LOs are different, so there is probably no way to know when your LO will stop waking at night. My son stopped waking for a night feed around 2.5 months and my daughter around 6 months. I never tried to eliminate the feed, each one did it on their own. Do you cluster feed or dream feed? If not, it might help get in more during the day.

Hi Angieb,
Thanks for your reply.  Yes, I do dreamfeed at about 10:45pm.  He takes 4.5 or 5 oz then, and still wakes up at 1:30 or 2:00, and again 2 1/2-3 hours after that.  I don't mind feeding him at night, it's just that he takes more ounces in at night than during the day, and I fear that he'll never drop his night feedings because of that.
I have also tried to cluster feed-and maybe I actually do it (not sure).  He takes his regular bottle at about 5:30pm-5 ounces.  Then, right before bed I was giving him the opportunity to eat again around 7pm but he was only taking 1 ounce or so.  I have kind of cut that feed out-maybe I should add it back in?  Tonight he went down at 7:15, but then woke screaming at 7:45.  I gave some gripe water, which kind of helped.  Then at 8 gave a 2 oz bottle which he drank right up.  Wish he could talk and tell me what's up!!!

Personally, I would probably try to get the last feed before bed to be a full bottle. So, you could have a 7 pm bottle, df, and then maybe just one night feed. At three months, my LO had a full bottle at 7 pm. Then, ate around 11 pm and 3 am. I never did the df, just let her wake on her own for the feeds.
