Do you think it is too late for signing
« on: August 10, 2007, 09:34:09 am »
Well, after a 30 min tantrum because I couldn't figure out what ds wanted ::) :( I'm thinking I should get back into trying to teach him to sign.  My question is though, is it too late, is it worth it at this age???

DS is nearly 18 months.  He only says a few words - mummy, daddy, car and toast ;D and then a couple of sentences - I want drink, I want up, i want car, I want toast, I want go, I want that......sooooooo do you think it will help?

Absolutely it is not too late. In fact, if you start working on it consistently he will not only be able to communicate better with you, but the verbal skills will likely come faster too! HTH

Noooo its never too late!

Here in the UK we teach singing to many of our preschool and school age children. Signing is a great way of communication but it also helps language development for all children.

Have fun with it!

I agree that it is NOT too late.  Your lo says a LOT more than my DS did at 18 months.  We started teaching him sign right around 18 months and he picked it up really fast.  In fact, as soon as we would teach him a sign, he would start to say it?!?!?  Really strange.

Good luck!

Not too late at all.... your lo is saying more words than my 23 month old, thank goodness for signs.  It will help ease the frustration all around... heck, my 5 year old still signs sometimes!
