Dinner solids and liquids
« on: January 29, 2006, 03:10:48 am »
I currently give my lo solids only at 5:30 or 6:00pm- no liquids.  I wait and give her 7oz at about 7:00pm after her bath.  She acts like she is about to die by then though.  Am I supposed to be giving her a feed right after her solids?  If so how much?  Won't that make her not want her 7:00pm milk feed?  ???

Can you post a sample of her daily feeding routine? And how old is she? Hopefully that will help us give you a better answer!

you could try giving a small drink of water along with the meal - just a few mouthfuls- which should quench her thirst. This small amount shouldnt cause her to cut back on her 7pm bottle

Her feeding schedule is this:

6:30/7:00am Breastfeed
7:458:15am Breakfast (cereal with fruit)
8:15/8:45 Little water before nap

10:30/11:00 Breastfeed and formula to top off (4-5oz--- I'm starting to dry out)
11:45/12:15 Lunch (usu. applesauce/pears or new food)
12:15/12:45 Little water before nap

2:30/3:00pm Breastfeed and formula to top off (4-5oz)
5:30pm Dinner solids (squash or sweet potato- her favorites)
6:30/7:00pm 7 oz Bottle

So, I switch the order at night as suggested by Tracy, which works well actually.  I'm just trying to figure out what to do so that she's not so upset at the end of the night.  I try so hard to make her night time routine as pleasing as possible.  This just really throws it all out the window.  I'm not sure what to do...

Hi, we've been offering DS a sippy of water at supper, he usually takes 2-3 oz and it has not impacted his bedtime bottle at all.  So maybe try offering 1-2 oz water at first?
In the evenings we usually do:

3:45ish 5-7 oz bottle
5:15 supper solids/water
6:45 8 oz bottle

I feed my DD solids at 5 - 5.15pm and then water to wash it down with (2-3oz).  It has no impact on the bedtime bottle.

water goes through a lo much quicker than milk or formula and will let them feel 'full' enough to even sleep through a nap w/o having an urgent need to eat.  by the time the next feeding comes around will be ready and hungry  ;)
