Entertaining at meal times!
« on: May 04, 2006, 09:48:51 am »
Hi
I have a little girl who is just 8mths - meal times arent too bad but sometimes she just doesnt want to know and I cant get any food into her at tea time - this then results in her waking inthe night for an extra bottle.  I dont want to turn meal times into a warzone and  dont want to force feed her but sometimes she just doesnt want to know!  I know it's a food that she's had before, so it's not that she doesnt like it and she should be hungry as it's been a while since lunch.

Any tips for getting babies to eat?
Thanks
Mazz.

Singing helps to distract them sometimes ;) I also give DS his own spoon and bowl to play with while I get as much food in as I can ;)

I do lots of singing - dont know what  the neighbours think!
She has toys to play with but not a spoon and bowl - might try that one! Thanks

I occasionally resort to the old one of pretending the spoon is an aeroplane or a train or a buzzy bee or something to get Will focussed and turn eating into a game.. that might work for those days when your LO doesnt seem to want to eat!

Looking at it from a different point of view....
...is your Lo maybe getting too much milk and is not hungry for her solids?

Before I mention what we do.. I just want to say that I only use this strategy when we need to have meal time be quick. I put in a Baby Einstein DVD into the player and he watches the video.. and I spoon! It works like a charm!

i either sing really loud to distract her...or i give her some finger foods and that usually does the trick nowadays-as long as her hands are busy feeding herself i get a couple spoonfuls each time..
