Julie-love Asher's videos.  What is that new toy and where did you get it?
Michelle-how neat for Kinlaugh.  Looks like you all had a fun day.  I might try the zoo this fall with Kelsey.

hi all - first of all thank you all for yor support.  yesterday (sat) was probably rock bottom as i almost felt as bad as i did when i was diagnosed with PPD. today was Father's Day here and i had the girls on my own until Dh got up at 10am and then i took alex out and did the grocery shopping (usually a Dh task) so dont feel like i have had a good break today, but it went better than the rest of the week.

i don't know when Olivia will get a bloody tooth but we are medicating her every 4 hours and she only eats well after the meds and it is like clockwork around 3hr 30 after dose leads to sudden change in behaviour cryig and getting fussy and then we give panadol (like tylenol) and 15 min later she is happy again.she is drooling like mad and chewing on everything.  at least she is eating better this weekend.

also - today she finally did a 1hr 30 morning nap (yay) but of course then only did a 45 mn for her 2nd nap (BOO) so i have decided i would rather have the day go 45 / 1hr 30 / 45 so i get the girls overlapping better.  see what happens now.

Julieb - your photos are awesome - Asher looks so great!

Tarri - thanks for all the advice.  Dh already does a lot when he comes home - he is in charge of olivia's bath and bedtime feed and DF. i also use the DVDs.. but will try your "deep breath" strategy - my therapist had told me about deep breathing as well to relax. sometimes to diffuse a situation i will stop and suddenly look down and start kissing and cuddling one of them - that usually breaks the moment and i feel loving instead of upset with them.

Jaime - got my first period about a month after switching to formula (have had 2 and am currently wondering where the heck this one is - so i can get back to normal)

Sandie - i almost had a heart attack when i saw crystal is 8 months old already and thought you were in the wrong place until i saw her birthdate - i cannot believe you guys with the January babies are 7 1/2 - 8 months old already!!!

Hello again...

Trying desperately to catch up on all the pages.. we're a real bunch of chatterboxes, I love it!

The videos are so cute. Think I should also add some, just scared of downloading stuff since we seem to get capped so easily.  :?

Deb: I so agree, cannot believe our babies are so big! I still feel like they're really young, but they're not. It's a happy and sad thing hey?
I'm sorry you've been going through such a hard time, hopefully things will only get better, coz once you hit rock bottom the only way is up after that. I know that sounds cliched, but I'm being entirely sincere.

Julie: WELL DONE ASHER!! That is really fantastic news! THe photos are also too cute.. I love how he poses.

Michelle: WELL DONE KINLAGH! Gosh, our kiddies are racing through the milestones.

Branwen: LOL @ Eirwen showing the doctor her pincer grasp. Our doc didn't believe me when I said Luka could crawl, he showed her too! haha! But it must be scary to go through this, I hope the neurologist gives you good luck. You also seem to be having a hard time, FLEAS!  When are you guys moving?

Christine: Well wishes for the doctors visit too. I've never heard of kidney reflux, but it sounds painful. Poor Leah. I'll be thinking of you guys.

Sandie: I love the reason why you named your daughter Crystal. Lovely!

Jamie: I think the jumper idea is a good one for expending energy. We're also thinking of getting one.

Heather: I also give Luka bits of our soft food. I think it's fine.

Us: We're doing okay I guess. Some days are good, others are really bad. He doesn't consistently put himself to sleep which is a struggle as we have to pat/shh for ages. PU/PD makes him furious. We had a bit of a tooth come through, but now it seems to have disappeared again :? Odd hey? And Luka has a rash which we think may have been caused by gem squash. We changed his soap (don't know why  ) and he got the rash and that same night he had eaten gem squash for the first time. So, we're not sure what's going on. If it isn't gone by tomorrow, we're off to the doc.

Well, Asher didn't sleep through last night (woke 4x), but I was able to hold off feeding him!  We'll see how this goes.

I'm supposed to go to my mom's to hang out with family today.  My sister is sick (since Wed).  I've read about contagiousness for 5 days.  She's so annoyed because I don't want Asher around her right now.  She thinks I'm being overly protective and I should expose (  :!: ) him some time and now's as good a time as any.  I don't vaccinate, so I am extra cautious.  But I know PLENTY of moms who won't expose their vaccinated kids to a sick person either!  Who wants a sick baby on their hands?!   :?  What do you all do with your LO when you know someone is sick?

Deb: Sorry to hear about your week/weekend.  Tomorrow starts a new week -- and hopefully a better one!  I read you can alternate motrin & tylenol so you don't end up overdosing on one (read on askdrsears.com).

Schae: LOVE your new avatar photo!  Luka looks so fun!  The tooth prolly disappeared because the gums swelled up around it.  You'll see it again soon (per the dentist I asked, this also happened to Asher's first tooth).  I noticed PU/PD isn't working like it used to anymore either.  We pretty much just do the PD part like Tracy's book suggests since he sits up/rolls into a crawl postition/stands up/etc.  That's much better.  If I pick him up, he gets annoyed.  Have you tried having your DH put him to bed?  It used to take me 1-2 hours a night when Asher was younger -- until I had DH do it for two days in a row.  Worked like a charm!   :D

Tarri: Fun video!  I keep accidentally turning my camera sideways as well!

Nikki: Lovely photo of your family!!

Hi Everyone:

I know I've dissapeared for awhile.  We were in a hotel for a week due to no electricity after Katrina hit Florida (at only a level 1).  It was very tiring what with going back and forth to our house to make sure our animals were okay (hot hot hot in the house!!!), running the generator to make formula and try not to lose everything in the fridge, etc.  but considering what that storm did to Miss. La, and Al. I feel like I cant complain at all.

Anyway,  I have great news.  Matty is sleeping through the night!!!!

He goes to bed about 7:30 and sleeps through to about 6:30 or sometimes 7 or even 7:30.  I dont know if the BW police will be after me if I tell you how I did it  so shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh - Okay, I'll tell you...........

we let him cry.  Yes, I know its horrible.  But we monitored him, and didnt let it go for very long.  and honestly, when I first tried it with the pu/pd, he cried much harder and got so upset! then when I just let him cry.

His naps are much better too.  The irony is, we had just started getting good at the sleeping, when five days into the CIO we had to leave the house due to the electricity being out.  Considering he was in a different bed in a hotel room, he did really well.  He still cries sometimes during naps, but usually stops in a short time and sleeps for a good 1.45 hrs much of the time (but not all, especially when he is teething).

Also, we can see a little tiny white tooth coming through!
JulieB, Asher's pics are great.

I am trying to find the time to read through all the posts but quite honestly, its getting a bit difficult to keep up!

Anyway, I dunno who asked about periods, but I can tell you that I stopped BF (Matty's choice, not mine) about three weeks ago and got my period a week ago.  It was very light.  I was actually glad to see it as I was experiencing PMS for about a month!

Keep posting everyone

hugs

Julie

Questions:

1. What is the cream that has been mentioned for skin problems?  Its homeopathic or something?

2.  Who has dropped the DF?  Matty just turned 7 mos.  is it time to drop the dream feed?  Im afraid to as he has only been sleeping through the night for a week or two now.

3.  Does BW recommend feeding solids first then bottle(breast)? or is it bottle first then solid?

I just read all the posts.  The pictures are beautiful, Heather, Christine and everyone.

JulieB, congratulations on Asher's good night :) .  I hope he keeps it up.  We're starting to get quite a few good nights mixed in with the not so good nights.  Well, I just read your last post.  I guess the main thing is to keep trying to hold off on the feeding and hopefully sleeping thru will come along more consistently.  I know we're slowly getting there.

Christine,  I hope your doctor appointment goes okay.

Sandie, Welcome!

Debra, hope your dh had a good father's day.  At least you know the problem with Olivia is her teething and that there will be an end in sight  .

Schae, sorry that putting Luka to sleep isn't going so well.  It could be the teething thing.  I know when Emily was teething all her naps and nighttime sleep were horrible and she's usually very good about putting herself to sleep.

Julie, the cream I use is calendula.  I think JulieB recommeded it but I couldn't get just the pure gel like she suggested.  We haven't droped the dreamfeed mostly because she eats dinner at 5:30 but she df's at 8:30 and only 5 oz.

Nikki, oh my gosh...Lise looks like a doll! :)

Us, we had a great 3 night visit with my parents here.  Emily loved having an audience for everything.  She's started making a new kind of high pitched squealing talking noise.  And I think she's working up to another bout of teething...but so far so good.  I haven't had much progress on nap #2.  We're still at 45mins max and I don't do an official catnap anymore, she only naps in the car or on the boat on the way home.  If we're not going anywhere I stroll her to give her a break but she doesn't fall asleep in it.  I'm hoping to stretch nap#2 to 1:30, but so far she's falling asleep on the change table if I just wait till 1:15pm.

Have a good night everyone.  Tarri

Nikki, beautiful photo.  Congratulations on Lise's Christening.  That is very special.

Deb-soooo sorry for the rough time you are going through.  I know that noone can relate unless they've been through PPD, and even then I'm sure it's different for everyone.  Out of curiosity, have you read Brooke Sheilds' book?

Julieb-Kelsey is vaccinated, and I wouldn't dare knowingly take her near someone who is sick.  Even vaccinated children get sick.  You did the right thing absoultely.

Julie #2  , I'm sorry you had to relocate due to the hurricane.  I hope all will be well for you.  I couldn't imagine going through that ordeal with a baby to care for.
Don't feel bad about CIO.  If Kelsey cries out in her naps, I know she is not rested and just having trouble resettling.  I don't go in anymore because I know it will make it harder for her, but there is a point when I know she's not going to make it on her own, too.  Now she can sleep for 1.5-2 hours and mostly not ever cry out.  PU/PD helped her to be able to go down initially on her own, but never worked for me to extend her naps.  Her body just sorted that out on her own.  I think I worsened the problem early on by always rushing in at 30 minutes and not giving her a chance.  Many people's babies cry out at the 20, 30, or 45 minute mark and resettle if given the chance.  I think it's accidental parenting that Tracy calls it.
I give solids before the bottle for breakfast and lunch just because it works better for us.  For dinner I give the bottle at 4, then solids at 5:30 per some recommendations I got from these girls here.  I think it might be 7 months that Tracy recommends dropping the df, but we did it a long time ago so I'm not sure.  It just depends on your lo.  All you can do is try and see if he wakes in the night hungry.  If so, reinstate it the next night and try again later.

Christine-Happy 7 months to Leah!

Us-I definitely see a tooth working it's way to the top (if not 2), but she's not near as grumpy as she has been.  I guess it will start up again when the teeth starts breaking through.  I posted some video at jusspress.com and am about to post the "baby riverdance" and some bath time.  When Branwen mentioned that Eirwen mocked her banging cups together, I tried it with Kelsey, and now she does it in the bath.  Too cute!

wow - gone for 3 days & there are 3 brand new pages!!!!  we are quite the chatty bunch.

been awol cause we also got luke baptized on saturday, so we had my parents in town, and the ILs at our house, so couldn't really use the computer much.  still need to fake a pic of luke by himself in his baptism outfit, and will post when i do (hopefully today).  have lots of pix in my camera that need to be downloaded....

thanks for the info on your periods.... just wanted to see if i was still within normal limits!

good suggestion on the jumper.  i had been toying with the idea, since he does go to town in the exersaucer.  will see what i can find in the secondhand shops.

Deb - wish i had some wise words for you, but i haven't had full-blown ppd, so i can't entirely relate.  i 'hope' you have hit rock bottom so you can start to pull back out of the slump.  miss *seeing* you on this thread.  hope that blasted tooth breaks out soon.

Nikki - good to hear from you too!  16 people for lunch!   you're braver than i - we only did 10.  that picture is beautiful... and that dress is gorgeous!!  what a great heirloom too, since your mom made it.

Julieb - those pix of asher are great.  your favorite one made me crack up... not entirely sure why though!  think my favorite one was the 2nd one, where he was smiling while sitting.  and he slept through the night!!!!  yay!!!!!!!!!  the waking the next night was probably just a little regression, and totally normal, and the fact that you didn't have to feed him is fantastic!!!  re the sick people, i do try and avoid sick people, but sometimes it's unavoidable (like a family gathering).  in that case i try to stay away from the infected person, and never let them hold the baby.  my philosophy is a bit different from yours though - i would rather them be sick now & build up antibodies now so they aren't as sick (or sick more often) when they start school - the haven for nasty bugs.  and no, i don't go exposing luke to sick people on purpose, but i will pretty much take him anywhere (except the church nursery until after 9 months)  :D

Michelle - pulling up?!  these babies are getting so big!!  :D

Christine - early wakings are very probably part of a whole new routine.  every once in a while luke does the same thing.  after about a month she should be used to it all and much more predictable (i can get luke to sleep in on the weekends!!)  it does get easier.  i hope the kidney thing sounds scarier than it really is and can self-correct.  keep us posted & hope it all turns out well.

Schae - welcome back!!  cute new avatar!  hope you figure out what caused the rash.  could be soap or food!!!  likely food if the rash is just around the diaper area - if it's everywhere i would guess soap.  we have sensitive skin around here too - can only use 1 soap on grownups & 1 soap on babies!!!!

JulieG - good to see you again too!!!  did not realize you were also in FL!  hope things are closer to normal now....  YAY on sleeping through the night!!!!  you must feel fantastic!  to answer your questions.... i have never done a DF.  Julieb recommended the cream but i forget what it was called.  i do bottle & then solids about an hour later.  think order depends on your lo.  milk is more important now.

Happy Labor Day to other Americans as well.  afraid i will be doing actual 'labor' today.  i have tons of work that needs to be done - spent the weekend playing instead!   :D

Hi everyone!

Julie G- it is so good to hear from you!  I have been wondering where you and Matty had gone.  I second Heather's comments about CIO.  I do let Eirwen cry a little during transition and at the beginning of a nap, esp since I know she can do it alone, and sometimes it seems she actually needs this release.  I know I'm not supposed to plug other books but BabyWise does use the CIO method and talks about the benefits to this if you want some reassurance.  It all made sense but I knew I personally couldn't do it.  I am just happy you found a method that works for you!

The cream is called Calendula.  It is AMAZING and has worked wonders on Eirwen's skin.  I got it online but did see it at my local organic store.

Nikki- you are a STUNNING family.  Congrats! :D

JulieB- I generally don't want Eirwen around sick people but I have also read that when it comes time for school, esp children who don't go to daycare (even vaccinated ones) end up very sick because they don't have antibodies...weren't exposed...so I guess I agree with Jaime.  Can I ask your reasons for not vaccinating?  I have been but I have been reading more and am upset I did this one and have now decided against the flu shot for her because of the mercury.  But it is also important to note that you are breastfeeding so Asher will have lots of antibodies from you, but I'm sure you know this  I am happy to hear about your great night and sad to hear about the second...he seems to be a very spirited fellow :P

Tarri- Emily is so cute in that jumper!

Schae- good to hear from you!

Sandie- Your little one sounds brilliant!  Post us some pictures :D

Christine- I will be thinking of little Leah- I hope she's ok too!

Us- We are doing AEAES now-naps come 15 min after solid meals.  It is just the only way it is seeming to work of late :?  I get either 45 1.5 45 or one 2 hr nap per day.  It kind of depends on her state of being...sometimes there is no nap in the afternoon.  Teeth seem better today but peaks in the afternoon and she rolls around in her crib holding her head crying. Tarri-Advil seems to work better for her than the Motrin! Thanks!

Dh and I noticed in the jumper yesterday that she actually only jumps on the right leg.  I feel like the worst mommyever for not noticing before.  She would just get so busy bouncing in there and make such noise I just assumed   So we propped her to tilt to the left and nope! would not put weight on that leg.  So that is worrysome.

Good news though- She rolled to the right from tummy to back all by herself today!!!! :D  :!:  YAY!  And she can pick up and hold a cherrio with her thumb and forefinger! YAY!  She wouldn't eat them but LOVED playing with them. 8)
