Hi Girls,

Traci - cracked me up about the poop  I wish Halle would do that many! I am worried she does not go enough. I laughed so loud when reading your comment about vegemite and cream cheese being the same !!! You probably could not get two things so not alike. I would love to see the look on your face when you taste vegemite

oh excuse me Jessica Simpson is on the telly , I have to go throw a chair through the screen........................................................
That would have to be the second worse song I have ever heard

Loving the snow photo's - Erin the photo of Katie is just beautiful. I would have to wait until July/August and drive about 900klms to get a photo like that !!!

Michelle - your MIL sounds soooo nice. Lucky girl. Mine buys me weird presents... ages ago she bought me a book on how to make 'crafty' things for children's fete's  :? I have never made anything 'crafty' in my life, I didn't have Halle at the time and I couldn't cook a lamington if my life depended on it  :?

Naomi - Just have to say - Beer at work?? I love it.

Holly - Yes, my Nan had a baby girl in 1956. She only lived 6hrs. Then they just took her away and that was basically the last they heard of her. They never talked about her and didn't know where she was buried. So sad. They did give her a name but it was not recorded on the death cert. So you can understand her pain a lot more than I can but we just want to do something for her as she has now started to talk about it. We are not religious people at all but it does not feel right to just leave it KWIM?

As for the napping in the car or pram. This was something that I discovered was causing Halle to have 45min naps. I go for a walk every morning and Halle would fall asleep in the pram on the way back. Then I would put her in her cot when I got home and she would not sleep or only sleep for 30-45mins. After reading some info from Andrea and Traci about weissbluth (sp?) I now keep her awake while walking or in the car (this is a bit harder). But it has been working ! She is napping HEAPS better. This morning she was up at 5.30   It was hard work getting her to 9.00 I tell you

tee hee, laughing again I tell ya!

sooooo, I think I made progress with Cole today. Let's ignore the TWO huge puking episodes and the fact that he seemed to have indigestion or something all day.  gassy/burpy and swallowing it back down-YUMMY!!!

Up at 5:20, down at 8:00 and I extended a 45 minuter to 1:40!  Down at 12:40 until 2pm.  Yay!  Tried putting down at 5:45pm (going based on wake time and end of nap) and he didn't settle until 6....SO, I think I'm going to do nap 1 around 8-8:30 depending on when he wakes, nap two likely around 12:30 as I will wake him at 9:30, then bed at 6.  I am hoping I have my evenings back.  No more second naps past 2pm I tell ya!  I think he'll do better tonight.  Of course, I stopped logging his sleep...but if I ever need to see I guess I can just check the thread! LOL

Nancy-the ONLY time I have ever transitioned Cole successfully from car to crib was the other day when he was way past nap time and only asleep 5 minutes in the car.  I was going to drive around but thought it ludricrous to drive around another 1:25 or something.  OH-and he'd had his flu shot, that may have had something to do with it.

Naomi-very cool about the beer!  The only time I drank at work was when it was our christmas party I snuck a Mikes Hard Lemonade into a styrofoam cup while I finished my day.  hee hee.  And I didn't even make any mistakes

can't wait for chat.  yippee.

OH-almost forgot my snow man.  Our friends from Pittsburgh gave us the hat.  tee hee

Okay, I'm chatting and typing here...what a total addict!

You know you're addicted when:
You think to yourself, "Sweet!  I don't have plans on Friday night.  I can chat with the girls!"

Sorry about the chat ladies but I think I got booted off and the chat site kept packing a sad!

LOL Traci about scrapping the poop off. Sam has a strange habit of only pooping in fresh nappies..I kid you not, he will only go when the nappy is fresh. I have a thing about changing nappies and I change his after every feed and after every poop. dh would love me to do what you do! Not telling him.

Hope the gripe water helped Cole.

I am sooo slack and don't think I told you all. Sam has been crawling for about 2 weeks (properly) and commando crawling for about 4. He has in the last week been pulling himself up to standing. He also takes steps when i hold both his hands and walks round the house.

HAYLEY, we put the gate up but have not gotten round to lowering his cot. He stands up in his cot while holding onto the bars but is not trying to climb yet.

ANKIE, lol on the chopsticks. Sam also loves eating off my chopsticks but takes too long with his purees. I only feed him with chopsticks when we go for Dim Sum.

As for naps in the car, Sam will not resettle but will carry on sleeping if the car stops. We usually just drive to a park or the beach and sit and read a book or catch a little nap ourselves while he sleep. Yesterday, we got home and just left him in the car while he slept and we unloaded the groceries.

NIKKI, what brand cloth nappies are you using? I have not been brave enough to venture there yet.

Sam has been waking at 5 am a lot this past week plus a few night wakings. I just go with it and do not fight him to get him back down.  Nikki, Judy and Naomi have really taught me to go with flow and out days usually work out fine. I think it is developmental as I often find him sitting up or kneeling in bed a 5 am. After that, it is all over rover.

NIKKI and was it LISA or JO, LOL on the sports colours. I am a bit of a sport addict when it is trans tasman except for cricket, I just don't get it.

Oh and welcome Michelle. Meant to say this a while back but mummy brain etc etc.

Take care,
Karen

Yo,

Poped on to the chat last night when I got home and only managed a few seconds with Bec.  Sorry I missed it!

Well, I must say that I have never had a chance/thought/reason to 'scrape sophie's diaper!!  Gotta love the poopy talk!

Sophie is constantly up on all fours rocking away - i am really surprised she is not properly crawling yet bu I suppose I can wait!!

I will try to post a couple of pics later.

Thanks for all the napping/driving advice. Again...I'm glad to know I'm not the only one with the problem. I will probably continue to drive around with her when she falls asleep, unless I absolutely can't for some reason.

Yesterday, it took me 2.5 hours of going in, winding down, rocking her, etc. to get her to sleep. I even fed her, she was asleep, put her in crib and she woke up!!! I probably would have just let it go, but we had to go to a b-day party last night and I knew she would need the nap. After 2.5 hrs of trying, she only slept for 45 min. So I was really nervous about how she'd be at the party. But, she did GREAT!!!! She laughed at everyone and had a good time (I was really excited, because usually new people/places make her a little uneasy.) We stayed until 10:00!!! (Didn't plan on it, and that's the first time we've done that in 8 months! But all of our good friends were there, and Liv was doing so well, I didn't want to leave!) We changed her into PJs and fed her there before we came home. I knew she'd sleep in the car (about a 20 min drive), but I was prepared for a fight at home and a long night. I took her out of her car seat and she stayed asleep!! I took her coat off....and she stayed asleep!!! I rocked her for just a minute, cause she started to stir, then I put her in her crib...and she stayed asleep!! She slept until 7:30 this morning!!!! I was so excited!!!!

We DEFINITELY won't be doing that all the time. (We usually just let our social life suffer for the sake of her bedtime.) But for the rare occasion that we are out that late, it's nice to know she can do it.

Hope everyone's night went well. I'd like to make the chat sometime, but Fridays are hard...that's usually my time with DH. Maybe one of these days!

Have a great weekend everyone! Off to make breakfast for DH and my little munchkin!!

YAY Olivia and Nancy!

okay, horrid night as expected.  As I mentioned at chat when I got home from drug store at 11, DH said cole had been sleeping 20 min.  He slept until 12:30.  DH and I fought to get the gripe water into him, only managed half a dose (1tsp).  then his advil as it was time for that too.  I wonder now if it's the advil that's bothering him?  only used that for a few days now :?:  anyway, tried to settle him with no luck.  DH slept with him in the glider from 1-3.  He was up at 3:30.  I slept with him 3:30-4:15 then put him in crib...stayed until 5 to be sure he was asleep, settling him a few times, sitting next to crib or trying to sleep on floor.  i went to bed at 5 to have him get up at 5:10 for the day.  *sigh*

fed okay at first feed, but not so great at 9:30.  think i'll have to feed him in little bits today in case his tummy is still bothering him.

i also wonder how much his troubles are attributed to all the holding.  but how do you not hold your lo when you think they are in pain/uncomfortable.  not to mention how uncomfortable it is for us to stand and pat for an hour at a time.

oh well.  have to be consistent.  no more holding.

Karen-Can Sams head reach over the rail?  If so I strongly recommend moving the crib mattress down.  I heard they can tip out if they lean out too far.  better safe than sorry.  ( i think it was you about not moving the cot-sorry!)

okay, off for breakfast. and COFFEE-very much needed today

Traci---I'm SO SORRY to hear about your night? Have you taken Cole to the dr to see if there's something wrong physically that might be bothering him. (Sorry if you've already said you have...I sometimes don't get to catch up on all the posts.)

YAY Olivia and Nancy
Go Sam!  Katie seems to be stuck in commando crawling - gets her around quite well though, so why bother doing something else I guess?!

Sorry about the chat - it kept freezing up on me and then I couldn't get back on.  How sad :(

Anyway, I think we're off to do some Christmas shopping today.

Traci, sorry about the rotten night - hope things get better soon!

Hey, everyone!
Way to go Sam and Olivia!!!  How exciting.  I think I'm slack, too.  (That sounds so British to me.  I love it!)  Ryan is about the same as Sam, I think, though not for as long.  Isn't it fun/frustrating?  He is getting EVERYWHERE!  And, the other day, he climbed up the entire flight of stairs (with me right behind him, of course!)  Today, it's gates at the bottom of the stairs, too.      That'll be annoying for the next 5 years or so!
Traci, good luck with Cole today/tonight.  I'm sending lots of good thoughts your way.
Ankie, how is Arwyn doing?  You haven't mentioned it lately, so I'm hoping it's going well!   :D
And...drumroll, please....RYAN HAS SLEPT THROUGH THE LAST TWO NIGHTS!!!  (Anti-jinx thoughts inserted here, please!)  Thank you to Traci and Holly, because I think it was hunger.      (And, all my accidental parenting, of course, but we won't mention that.   8) )  We've started giving him a lot more food and I think it's helped with naps, too.   Not sure why I didn't think of it...more movement=more burned calories=more need for calories.  Okay, enough beating myself up!
Off to wrap some presents...all 3 I've gotten so far are for Ryan.  Too bad dh had to go to stupid work this am   or maybe I could have gotten some more done.  It's soooo much easier without the babe along.
Kate,

so happy to hear about that Kate!  yay for Ryan.

Nancy-haven't gone to the doc yet.  he's puking (or large spit up anyway) after eating.  So I don't think it's of major concern yet.  I'm monitoring his temp and activity level and he seems happy otherwise.  It's not like he's puking and puking and puking.  anyway, on that note, off to give him some gripe water.

will check back later.  ILs here today, hoping to get out of the house.  I have major cabin fever!
