« on: October 23, 2007, 07:13:57 am »
HELP HELP HELP my little one will only stomach soup and pureeed food, I think this is down to the nanny making her life easier, but how do di get my Lo one onto more solid food and off her milk as she is still drinking around 4 bottles 330ml a day ?

Thanks in advance

If you mean 330ml in each bottle that's around 11oz each time. So around 44oz a day.

And at that age you should be looking at 12-18oz of milk in the entire day (530ml if US oz, 511ml if UK oz).

So you've got quite a way to go!

You'll need to reduce the milk significantly to give her an appetite for solid food.

I'd also suggest you don't try and phase in lumps to her normal food but go straight to fingers foods and self-feeding.

Does she eat any finger food at the moment? What have her experiences been so far?

BTW - this post's proper home is in 'eating for toddlers' so don't be surprised if a moderator comes along and moves it to that board instead :)

Thank you for the response, this is what I was thinking in respect to the milk :-(

As for finger food she will chew it and then spit it out as she is not used to swallowing lumps I see a long road ahead

I'm sure it's a road you'll complete in the end. Although she's obviously a lot older than most of the babies mentioned - you might find it helpful to look at the baby led weaning materials on the solids board which really focus on finger foods and self-feeding.
And it's important her nanny and you model eating in front of her as much as possible so that she wants to join in and sees the action you are using. So meals aren't just spooning food into her but a communal experience. She might also be able to self-feed purees using appropriate toddler cutlery or a 'baby safe feeder':

You might need to be quite firm with your nanny to make your expectations clear :-\ .
