Days and nights mixed up???
« on: March 06, 2007, 15:11:53 pm »
My dd is two weeks and one day old.  I have tried to start easy with her from the get go.  I wake her after no more than two hours, have a little activity, feed her, burp, diaper and attempt to have a tiny bit more activity.  Sometimes she will stay awake.  Other times she is impossible to keep up.  Then I will swaddle her and lay her down when she starts nodding off.  I usually have to give her a paci to get her to settle into slumber except at the night feeds.  When she first came home, she would wake evry 3 hours to eat and went right back to sleep.  Now she is a tad restless and seems to want to be up at the 1:30 ish feed.  She is usually up around 7:30 for a bit, then we try easy all day, and in the late afternoon she wants to stay asleep and is impossible to wake.  Around 6PM or so, she will wake and usually has fussy time.  I think her belly bothers her a bit.  She had to change formulas and now is somewhat constipated.  Then she hits the bed hard around 7:30 or so after that evening feed.  We have tried feeding every two hours in the PM but it doesn't seem to help.  Do you think she is having belly issues, hunger issues, or are her days and nights mixed up?  How can I rectify this problem?  I am sooo tired and am suffering from PPD.

Hello  ;D

Big {{{{{HUGS}}}}}}

Beleive it or not, she's behaving exactly like a 2 week old should.  :-*  I think it's great that you are beginning to implement EASY and are so committed.  The first 6 weeks of a baby's life is unpredicatable in terms of a routine. What she will do most during this times is eat, sleep and poop.....oh, and cry :P  The first  6 weeks of EASY are to get you used to going through the motions of it, helping you to read her cues by process of elimination (ie. I fed her 20 mins so she's not crying out of hunger) and to keep accidental parenting at bay.  If she's growing, gaining weight and overall happy then let her be for the time being, keeping a routine as you best you can though  ;)  But if she's not underweight or losing weight then it's ok to let her sleep a little more, especially if she's impossible to wake. To sleep is also to grow.

The new formula may be adding to her fussy time, although the late afternoon is usually know as their "social hour"....not very social as it is crying!  She'll grow out of this too. And once she adjusts to her new formula she'll improve also.

Hang in there hun. Things are really not bad! Trust me!! Many moms would give a kidney to have a newborn that sleeps as much as yours!

I hope I've been some help.
