how many meals at 6 months?

My lo is 6 months and one week old, 16lbs 7oz. We have been on solids for a little over 4 weeks. Since we started solids I've been having trouble getting him to breast feed. He east his solids very well. I would like to breast feed for at least a year.


7am breast feed
8am cereal and fruit
9-11am nap
11am breast feed
12pm fruit and veg
1-3pm nap
3pm breast feed
330pm fruit
5-6pm cat nap for 30 min
6pm cereal and veg/fruit
630pm bath
7pm breast feed then bed
1030 dream feed

I don't always feed at 12pm and 330 pm sometimes just one or the other. I'm thinking I should cut down on solids so he can breast feed more??? He always seems hungry at 6pm, should I breast feed at 430 or 6pm AND 7pm??

Ever since the solids have started I feel lost. I liked the 4 hour easy and just breastfeeding. He was doing well...but then everthing changes!!

Hi,

Welcome to the board. How was he feeding before you started solids? I think you may need to cut back on the solids if it is interring with him breastfeeding. What quantity of solids are you feeding at each meal?

Should I cut down on the number of meals, or the amount at each meal. See below for approx. amounts.

7am breast feed
8am cereal 2-3 tsp dry and fruit 1-2 tbsp
9-11am nap
11am breast feed
12pm fruit and veg 1-2 tbsp each

330pm fruit 2 tbsp

sometimes I only feed solids at 330 OR 6pm, not both. I mix the cereal with water. He was breast feeding OK before solids. Gets distracted easily. His weight gain had slowed before 6 months so I started solids at 24 weeks. His weight gain has really taken off now. He shad been sleeping betterr but now gets up at 6am often for a feed and stays up. I have also started taking fenugreek to help the breast feeding along. Thanks for your help. I find I am very confused since solids started. I would like to breast feed for a year.

I would cut 1 meal at this stage.I just noticed you give 4 solid meals. I would cut back on the 6pm solids feed and move the 3.30pm feed to 4pm instead. IF you are finding he is still being fussy i would cut back on another meal for the time being until he is back to BF well again.
