Combinations
« on: August 15, 2006, 15:31:30 pm »
I'm having a hard time getting my dd to eat any solid food other than rice and oatmeal cereals, sweet potato and occasionally pear.  She has eaten other things before; peas, cantaloup, apricots, corn, carrots; but now it seems to be a no go with these things.  Any ideas for interesting and tasty puree combinations I can try to hopefully get her more interested?

Have you tried Avocado? Chick peas? cream cheese mixed with veg is yummy too. Sweet potatoes made by you taste a milion times better than the jars.  How about applesauce? Banana? Mango is lovely....
Maybe she is teething and her teeth hurt and she just may be off food totally? or is she hungry enough? Are you nursing her still?

Laura, I forgot to add that I've tried banana, mango and applesauce as well. I've also tried my own food as well as several brands of baby food.  I'm not sure about the hunger thing, she still nurses like a champion though.  I've tried giving her solids first thing in the morning when she is hungriest but she refuses, mouth closed, head turned.  Stubborn little cutie...

You might try mixing anything and everything with the foods she does like. Keep in mind that what we think tastes good may be totally different for babies, so while it might seem gross to mix sweet potato and cantaloupe, she might actually like it! One of Tyler's favorites for MONTHS was a combo of baby oatmeal, apple prune juice, and spinach puree. Another favorite was a mix of kale and banana purees! Experiment away, you miight be surprised by what she likes!

Another sweet vegetable that you might want to try to puree is parsnips. DS used to gobble it up!!

Thanks for the ideas, I guess I will have to get creative...and you are right Stacy, some of those are GROSS GROSS GROSS  ;D.  Never thought of mixing veggies with bm to lessen the intensity, good idea, I will definitely try that!
