Can my 6 month old have bad table manners?
« on: August 21, 2006, 16:02:21 pm »
My DS has been eating solids for about 2 months and is VERY vocal when he eats. He is a good little eater but he makes lots of grunting/moaning/num-num/mmmmm noises with EVERY bite. At first I thought it was hilarious but he does it all the time. Is this normal? Is it bad manners and if so, how in the world would I teach him to be a bit more quiet?

I really wouldn't worry about this at this stage....he's still so little!  As he gets older, you can model good table manners for him, but for now, I highly doubt you can "teach" him to be quieter.  He probably just likes his food, hence the noises.

I agree with the pp. He sounds like he's a good eater and probably enjoys his food. I agree that you can't teach him to be a more polite eater. Heck, I'm still trying with my toddler!  ::) I guess if it really bothers you, try not to encourage it by laughing at it or making a big deal of it.

Thanks! You guys are right. As long as he is enjoying himself - why worry? I just needed to hear it from someone else :)
