Okay so I was reading a previous post and I have a similar situation, my son is 4.5 mths old and at the end of July I will be going on a week long trip w/o him :( but it will be a special time for me and dh. So I was hoping to be done bfing by the time that I go as I probably will not have much time to pump and even if I was still just nursing once at night, I'm afraid his grandma's that will be watching him will have trouble getting him to sleep w/o the nursing session. So does anyone have any time on when I should start to wean, I would like to bf until 6 mo's but will that be enough time to wean (1 month)? Also I must be going through the 4 mth bfing rut b/c he just doesn't seem interested in bfing at all, I know I've got plenty of milk so I don't feel like my supply is diminishing but I just feel like he is letting it go to waste b/c he hardley wants to eat, here's more of the scoop on that. He wakes at least 3x during the night to bf, and does a farely good job at it but during the day he just hardley ever wants to eat, when I go to feed him he just snacks. So I know to cut the nw's I should try to get him to take more during the day but he just refuses it and looks around ( I know it's all interesting) I've even tried to go into a room with little distractions but he finds something to look at (even the ceiling is interesting to him) I just don't know how to get him to take good feeds. I'm afraid if he doesn't keep it up then my milk supply will start to diminish. ???

Hi there. Wow, a week away, sounds like fun! Enjoy ;D
Yup, you got it, you need to increase the day feeds to eliminate some of those night feeds. Your baby is reverse cycling. You could try reducing the length of her feeds at night and see if you can reduce the amount of calories she's taking and then she may be hungrier in the day. Or even have someone else try and settle her a night without a feed (may not be easy!). Keep in mind though, it is still common to have 1-2 night feeds at this age.
To combat the distractions, see here: http://www.kellymom.com/babyconcerns/distractible-baby.html
What does your day look like? How often are you feeding? How long does he feed? Are you following EASY?
Your supply is not going to diminish, as he is taking it at night. As far as weaning is concerned, it is recommended to drop a feed a week. Your time frame depends on how many day feeds. You probably want to first take care of the night nursings before dropping a feed. Is the nursing a prop at night? Will he settle without it?

Hi have you tried a chain for him to play with while feeding? my ds plays with my bra strap and i also hold his finger and move it from side to side, another thing is i try not to look at his too often that way he just seems to get on with it.
Just a few things i thought of have you tried anything like these?
