DS and DD share a room, we only have a 2 bedroom house for the moment. Jack was 3 in May and Abbi is 18 months nearly. Jack is happy in his cot, and I have a bit of a fear of him being in a BBB atm, cause I can just imagine him getting out, dumping toys/clothes on abbi when she is trying to sleep, and that it would be a disaster. I have had a few comments on him being in a cot still...... he has only ever climbed out once a few months ago and never did it again, he seems to love his cot, even when ill, he wouldnt sleep in with us and just howled and cried for his cot. I was just wondering what peoples thoughts on this was. Is he too old to be in a cot? The longer I leave it I wonder when the time comes it will be a tougher transition. Can it work him being in a BBB with his sister in the room still being so little. They are both such good sleepers, both in bed asleep for 12 hrs by 7pm at the latest. I am of the mind, if it aint broke dont fix it..... but I just look at him and think wow he is so grown up and STILL in a cot. Also we are off to butlins soon and he HAS to be in a bed for 5 days as they will only provide one cot. Any thoughts, and be as honest as ya like ;) :)
Thank you xxx

It's just the same here. Scotty loves his cot, but he is getting too big for it... So instead of thinking BB, we want to get him another cot instead, one that can be transformed into a bed or something.
:)

I think you are lucky! I am keeping Leorah in hers as long as poss, she loves her cot and feels safe and wants to stay in it up to an hour after she wakes up! Her cousin will be 4 in December and has just moved to a BGB, she got to choose and has one with a small ladder and loves it, they have had no problems at all and will keep their DS in a cot as long as possible too. At the moment we are just doing pre BGB ideas, we let her play in our bed, read stories and watch dvds with people in beds, let her play in the kids beds in Ikea and are generally preparing her for when she decides, she gets very excited about beds now :)

im of the thinking that if it aint broke dont fix it ;)
Wait and see how he when he's nearly four as then he'll be starting school and may want a bed then...or maybe he might like the bed at butlin eh? :-*
-
Henry was in his crib until he was 3.5. He chose to move into a BBB when the time was right for him. I would have kept him in his crib for as long as he wanted. :)
-
See how he gets on at Butlins Em - he might love a BBB. Although, if you're moving (any news on that yet?), I'd keep him in his cot for a while after you move so he has that familiarity.

I'd say see how it goes on holiday, Lily is in a cot/bed with rails off for a few months now, she still has a sleeping bag, but we just got back from holiday where she had to sleep in a big single bed with a duvet and she loved it and has transitioned back to sleeping bag and cot/bed now we are home no probs.
I would be tempted to maybe try to stretch him out in cot until Abbi can go into bgb and do them both at same time.

If Jack is happy in his cot and you are happy with him being in one then forget what other people think , there will always be someone with some comment on your parenting ::) . would a travel cot be an option for your time away ? have DD in that and DS in the cot that they provide for you ??? . If you are all in one room and DS is in a BBB then at least you will be there to see how he is with DD .
Moving house might make the permanent transition easier because it will be a new room and can be his big boy room with no cot .
-
Like pp, I say see if he likes it on holiday.
I can see why you haven't moved him - there's a safety issue there too with dd being in the same room and you're not there to supervise. I think you are fine.
Btw ds is still in a cot and he's much older. I'm in the if it ain't broke don't fix it camp :)
-
Nodding with agreement here too...
-
Alex was over 3 and stil in her cot. She moved about a month after she was 3. As PP's have said, wait until you are ready and see how Butlins goes
-
I think that's great! I am jealous.

If it ain't broke don't fix it! LOL
DD was in a cot until she was 3 years 2 months or so. We have a big cot and she slept in there comfortably even though she is tall for her age.
We wanted to move her out before the baby came though, in case she cottoned on to being ousted out of her cot in favour of the baby.

:) :) :) Thanks ladies, gonna leave things as they are methinks! He has a large cotbed, that can be converted to a toddler bed when ready. We MAY be moving hopefully in the next few months, so if we get the 3 bed we need then I will transition then. xxxxx

I completely agree with the pp. My ds moved into BBB just before his 2nd bday (he climbed and fell out) and I wish he were still in a crib. His dresser and book shelves are all out in the hallway as he would empty them. I say keep him in as long as possible.

I personally was in a cot until just before I went to kindergarten! In our case it was a matter of how to fit 5 kids into 2 bedrooms and having me in a crib that late bought them more time! But, still. I have to wonder what my mother was thinking... :)
Yes, I can remember crawling into it.

Me too!
Emma...I intend to keep Sophia in her crib/cot for as long as she will let me. I dread the same things you do...she has such pretty thing in her room, I shudder to think if anything will stay in one piece if she moves to a BGB. I also imagine that the whole wind down and bedtime routine will have to absolutely change once this happens? Perhaps a longer wind down?
-
It took a longer wind down for us, but only for a few weeks. DS climbed out at 20 months.
We cleared out his room too, but he can't open the door to get out. For a few weeks, this new freedom was huge for him and we'd hear him get out and explore...we'd hear some bangs and thuds too as he threw his books out of his bed and back in. This messed with naps and bedtime for a few weeks and resulted in some OT.
Now he still gets out, but crawls back in and sleepy times are back to "normal". So, the noveltly does wear off.

Thanks so much....good to know that the novelty does wear off eventually. I guess havign to deal with the inevitable is just par for the course...
