Title: NURSING STRIKE......!!!
Post by: karinli on July 04, 2008, 22:39:22 pm
My DS is a year old next week & I believe that he is on a nursing strike & it could be several different issues & I have not quite figured out which exactly.......

Previously the DR gave me some Domperidone (pills) to increase my milk supply, but I didn't end up having to take them, should I start these pills while I try to figure out what the problem is?!??

TIA

If it is a complete nursing strike then maintaining your supply is a factor here. It would be necessary to pump and stimulate your breasts even if you were going to take the domperidone.
To be honest I'm not one to take medication lightly and like all medication domperidone can have side effects. Do you think low supply is a factor here for sure? I would only take it if you feel confident that it is necessary.

Can you talk through what's happening? Does he go to the breast at all? What happens when you offer it? What was his nursing pattern previously?

In very very rare cases self-weaning can start to happen around now but you probably know that self-weaning is a gradual process rather than an 'eeek-what's-happening' one.
