So me DS2 (22 months) wakes up at 5.30 now. I know that some of you have this all the time, but he went from 7.30 - 5.30 am awake...
And he's LOUD! sings songs, calls out for me, jumps up and down because he's dancing... and this wakes up DS1 (3 1/2)
so now I have two kids up early and they will be cranky around 11 am obviously, will nap LONGER (which I don't want but the OT cycle is more feared then the EW cycle) and then go to be LATER because of the longer nap... (I do put them to bed on the same time still, they just sing till they finally fall asleep...
Any advise welcome...
Both boys are happy and content, I am not ::) :-\

How long is the nap? If its 2.5-3hrs long (anything longer than 2hrs) then thats probably causing the EW's. If he's getting 12-13hrs or so in a 24hr period, probably thats all he can do. I would look at shortening the nap.

Nap for DS 1 is 1 hour to maybe 1.5 max, DS2 naps 2 to maybe 2.5...
Without a nap is not really possible, life would be nasty around 4.30 - 7 pm
Thanks for thinking with me though, it always helps if someone else looks ar your situation as well, since I am sometimes stuck in my way of looking at things... :-*

For DS1 - it might be time to drop the nap :-\. You could try for a week to hold him off and instead offer him a super early bedtime (around 6pm to be honest). The afternoon might be a little tough for a while... you could try quiet time instead of letting him nap and within a few weeks his body would have gotten used to sleeping 12hrs at night rather than having a daytime sleep and then waking up at 5.30am.
Ds2 - if he's starting his nap around 11am, that could be another reason for the early wakings. I would try and push the nap out until it starts closer to midday and then wake him 2hrs into the nap and do bedtime around 7-7.30pm.
Let me know how you go

Thanks, I think I won't drop the nap, since he really seems to need it. As for DS2 he goes to bed around 12.30 pm till around 2.30 pm, what I've been doing for the last two days is just to bring them bck to bed and say, it's not time to get up yet, it's still bedroom time and for DS1 that seems to work, he'll snooze for another hour, DS2 is a little harder, but so far he's been playing quitely in his bed for another hour...
we'll see where this leads us, thanks for helping!

Hey, Hester, I've been playing with the EW's for a solid 2 months now...nothing I do seems to change anything, my mom thinks it's dd's molars playing havoc with her, and her LOUDNESS at 5:45am, wakes up DS.....

LOL I think our kids are telepathicly (if that's even a word) they seem to have the same phases at the same times....
I wonder if the fact that they're the same age has anything to do with it! :P

well they need to quit the ESP, and SLEEP for the LOVE OF HEAVEN!

We seem to be having similar problems over here. Maya is 18months and took to the transition fairly well, or so I thought! Anyway we now have a continious prob of OT as we are getting shorter naps/NW and EW. Feel like I am constantly battling with all this and with hubby as he thinks her bedtime is too early and that is why she is up at 5.20 most mornings. We were doing a 11.30-12 nap where she was sleeping 1.5-2 hrs with bed at 7ish but as she is waking early again 12 seems too long, but if I go with 11 and she only does 1hr it is too long until bed , even with an earlier bedtime. I am dubious about putting her down too early as we tried this before and gor 4.30 wake ups!!! Why do all my friends have angel sleepers?
love any ideas,
