helloo,
my lo has got a crack at the corner of her lip, thanks to a vitB deficiency for which doc gave abidec drops. two weeks later the crack is still there. took her to the doc again this morning and he said to give her plenty of juice along with the multivit drops .... now juice is something i have never been in the habit of, whether for myself or for my lo. i am really hesitant to give to her as it just seems to be additional calories without any value, really.
she has a banana and 1/2 avocado and one more fruit daily. she loves nectarines/ pears/ blueberries and quite a few other fruits as well. should i just up her fruit intake or is it ok to give her juice? if yes, then which juices are good? or should i try smoothies?
any ideas would be greatly appreciated...
confused .... :-\ :-\

Do you know what B vitamin she is lacking in? Some, like B12 aren't found in fruits at all only dairy and meat.
-
nope... doc didnt specify.
anya has 500ml milk + yoghurt + cheese daily. should i up her milk a little ??
we are vegetarians, so meat is a cant-do ...

Has she any other symptoms? Tiredness etc - B12 is a form of anemia - its common in vegetarians. Do you allow her to fish? It can also be that she can't absorb it - I would maybe check with your doctor again to find out which vitamin she is lacking in, she might need more than Abidec is giving her.

no tiredness as far as i can see ::)
will re-check with doc.... but would you say it is ok to give juice/s ?

My LO drinks lots of juice but I dilute it (he has been since 1 year). It is about 1 part juice and 4 parts water. Really he only gets apple juice. I would watch to make sure the juice you give is actual 100% fruit juice and not a juice blend or something from concentrate. The other stuff is more sugar than anything. Sunrype makes good 100% juices. I also ensure that he has his teeth brushed well to avoid too much sugar on the teeth. Although milk does that as well.
