Title: 16 month old refuses to sleep anywhere except her crib!
Post by: akbb22 on October 28, 2008, 00:16:12 am
Hi all,  My DD is 16 mos and I'm expecting another LO in December.  I've had DD on the same routine since she was about 5 months old.  Bath, massage, bottle, and place her in her crib awake. I do the same for naps except i omit the bath and replace it with diaper change.  She's always done ok sleeping away from home b/c i bring her Lovee/white noise machine wherever we go.  But most recently she REFUSES to sleep in her pack n play away from home.  Heck, i've even set it up in our master bedroom at home and she screamed bloody murder there too!  We are just now transitioning from 2 naps to 1, she is cutting molars, but this lack of sleep away from home started before all this.  I'm feeling so frustrated b/c I can't take her anywhere.  Next week we are supposed to go on our annual trip to the mountains, and it looks like i won't be going.  I just can't take all the crying and OT disasters.  Any advice???  i try to recreate the home environment as much as possible - but it's not working.  Also - what does everyone do in a hotel room where your LO can clearly see you in the same room??  I just know that's going to cause hours of protest!  Thanks in advance!

I am so sorry that you're going through this - it sounds soooo frustrating! I mean, I am sure you're happy she loves her crib, but not to that extent, eh?
What would she do if, when you go away and she is in her pack n play, you stayed in the room with her, but at the other side of the room for a while to help her relax?

In the case of a hotel room, why don't you take a long bubble bath while she is falling asleep? That way you get to relax (or have a romantic evening with DH) while she falls asleep.

Call the hotel and ask if they have a crib - some do.

Things won't be the same on the trip, she will be OT but you kind have to go with the flow I think knowing she WILL sleep eventually? :)

Also, try medicating her for her tooth pain before sleeps.

Bring some tacks and a dark sheet and make her own space by hanging the sheet from the ceiling lol.  Or ask the hotel if the have a privacy shade/screen to divide the room to make her own space.

:) Good Luck my friend!  This too shall pass.  Molars were the DEVIL here :P
