Even though DS is only 10 months, I post this on the toddler board - he is big as a 15 months old (has always been on the 91st-98th percentile) and eating like a 2-year old... He would never stop eating, if I didn't stop offering him food & snacks - what can I do?
A typical day, in terms of food:
7.30 180-200ml milk in bottle
8.30 porridge with half banana
12.00 homemade mashed or cut food (chicken/salmon, potato/rice/root veggies, veggies such as peas, broccoli, cauliflower etc)
15.00 180-200 ml milk
17.30 same as lunch
18.45 180-200 ml milk
(STTN and no night feeds since he was 7 weeks)
I try to eat when he has his main meals, and I do give him toast, carrot stick or other snack after a feed to make the meal last longer. But he eats so fast and cries bloody murder when he has finished his meal or snack. I try to distract him and give him things to play with after a meal, but when we are in the kithcen or in a restaurant, he doesn't calm down until he has something to eat on... How should I handle this never-satisfied, hungry baby?

Hmmmm to be honest, if it ain't broke don't fix it!! Sounds like you've got a really healthy little boy there!

I agree. If he's getting his requirement in formula, sleeping well, and eating well then there's nothing to change. Is his dr concern?

Thanks, your replies make me more confident to continue as I do. I guess I am just worried that he will turn into a comfort eater (or rather, I will make him one) as I sometimes (well, quite often) just give him a rice cake or similar to keep him satisfied or quiet... :-\

I agree he obviously loves his food and I say GREAT 8) ;D

My LO is the same, he could eat all day, and my DH says (half jokingly) that he worries that Stanley will be obese. I say, everything he eats is healthy, and in a few months time, when he hits that picky toddler phase, we're going to be WISHING he would eat more. Offer healthy choices, distract him with a toy if you think he is using food just for an activity, but if he fancies a satsuma, great! I, too, worry about the number of snacks I give him in the car/stroller to keep him content, but I figure that once he can talk we can chat/play games/sing songs to keep occupied - but for now that isn't an option.

My ds did the same exact thing for a couple of years and now that he is 4, it has settled down a bit. I thought he was going to be obese as well, but he is a slim jim now.:)

My 13 month old daughter has started this phase about a month ago. At first I thought she was just going through a growth spurt but I don't really think that anymore. Doesn't it stink that they cry whenever you pull them down from the highchair? She could eat all day long. She eats more than my 3 year old!

I have found the perfect snack, which keeps him occupied for a bit after a meal - celery! Perfect size and texture, and healthy too! :)

Oh thank you for having this thread!
I was just going to post for my 16mth old DD.
She eats and eats, and whenever she's out of the high chair, she's hanging off of it indicating that she wants to eat.
She's been sick of late, and I think going through a growth spurt, and she's just about to let go of my fingers for support when she walks....and she's only little....
But I was worried that the amount is excessive.
0600 cup of milk
0700 two weetbix, yoghurt, milk and sometimes piece of toast
1000 custard and fruit (often a double helping) and a vege muffin, cheese
1400 muffin/pikelet with fruit and more fruit, cheese
1730 veges with meat of some sort, fruit again....she's looking for more, and seems very keen on fruit.
1830 cup of milk
Wasn't too sure on the amount of fruit - doesn't seem to give her the trots though...
And as for dairy - she loves the stuff! Cheese she could eat all day!
Any thoughts?
Or as for the general consensus - don't fret as she's eating healthy, and she's going to not eat very shortly in the future?
