My little one seems to just like either toast, fruit or porridge, i.e. isn't keen on cereals yet...
I'm just wondering if anyone had any ideas for what else she could have for breakfast or how we make a transition to cereals?
Thanks
Marie

We give our LO Weetbix and mix pureed fruit into it... He loves this and has it most days for breaky.
-
I'd keep offering the cereal dry in a bowl while he eats his other stuff...he'll come around! Also...my dd wouldn't eat cheerios, but someone suggested rice crispies and she ate that!! Ther's lots of trial and error at this stage, but it's alot of fun!
DD LOVED (and still does) bluberry pancakes...cut them up small and your lo can feed herself. Also, french toast is great to self-feed, plus has the extra protein from the egg.
Toast, yogurt and fruit is a great and balanced breakfast...!! I'd make banana muffins too, that with yogurt was a great one!!
-
Thanks both!
We tried weetabix a while ago and she wasn't keen, although with puree fruit she might like it, we'll give that a go.
I'll try offering dry cereal as you say and keep at this for a while, she did begin to like Cheerios a few weeks back although not so keen now, trial and error I guess plus a bit of keeping me on my toes!
This is probably a silly question but how do you make french toast?
Thanks :)

I know this wasn't my suggestion but I'm on here atm so I'll give you my recipe :)
Mix 1 egg and 1 Tablespoon of milk in a bowl
(You can add sugar or cinnamon but I don't)
Dip a slice of dry bread (crusts off) into the mixture until soaked through.
fry the bread on each side over low/ med heat.
That's it, very quick and easy and LO's love it!
and as Amelia said it's a great self feed!

There are no silly questions here...didn't anyone tell you?? :)
French Toast ( I think in Uk it's caaled eggy bread?)
Depending on how many slices of bread you'll use...but for one slice (what my dd eats) I use one egg. Whisk one egg in a bowl, add milk...(how much? I eyeball it...maybe 1/4 cup?) add cinnamon to taste and vanilla to taste. Sorry for being vague, but it's so simple I don't ever think about it or measure anything!
Lay a slice of bread in above mixture, wait about 5 seconds, turn the bread over, being sure it has soaked in. Then just put in a frying pan and cook! Turn once or twice until golden brown. You can put butter and/or syrup on when done...we use a little syrup...dd loves her french toast!

That sounds great, thanks both, we'll definitely be trying this one!
You guys on here are so helpful, I really appreciate it

No problem!! We've all been in that place where we just need a couple of suggestions...I'm sure more will be coming!!
Oh...looks like we forgot to mention...use some non-stick spray or butter in the pan before you put the french toast in...it would stick and make a mess!!
-
not a prob,
you might want to make double so you can have a nibble yourself!
;)
-
Weetbix and lots of yoghurt!
Toast.
And dry cereal to nibble on while I am making her breakfast.
;D

We never mix her cereal with milk - she will only eat it with OJ. I make her baby-sized muffins with fruit pieces in them and half the flour replaced with baby cereal; also soft bananas and cubes of soft cheese. We try to give her fuit/veggie smoothies (we buy Arthur's carrot & juice smoothies) or the V8 fruit and veggie ones instead of straight juice - she loves them.
-
Every few weeks I cook up some apples, raisins and cinnamon with a little water until soft and puree it (skins too). I then freeze it into ice cubes. For breakfast Gus has 2 of these cubes mixed with some rice cereal and a little weetabix. He loves it. He also has dry cheerios which he picks at before and after his puree/cereal.

Thanks everyone, I'll give these a go x

My DD2 LOVES scrambled eggs, french toast, toasted bagels with cream cheese, peanut butter on toast, dry cereal, oatmeal, bananas or any other fruit. We use only whole grain breads and cereals and organic fruits/eggs where possible. :)

Leo has just really gotten into breakfast now, we offer mostly weetbix crunch which are little bite sized weetbix pieces (some of the varieties are quite sweet, fruit pieces or honey in them). He refuses to be spoon fed but I wanted him to be used to breakfast cereal as I don't want to be preparing different meals for him every morning. I soften them in milk and hand them to him. I offer mostly the blander multigrain weetbix crunch so he gets used to weetbix.
As a rule the family eats weetbix with raw muesli sprinkled on top (this replaces adding sugar to them, as the sultanas and dates etc add flavour). One day a week i make french toast, scrambled eggs, porridge, or we have a more sugary sweet cereal for variety. Then everyone is happy to eat weetbix the rest of the week!
French toast is delicious! That is our real treat. we add golden syrup to a slice or two as well. mmmmmm

My ds loved cereal at the age of one (no wonder he was so chubby) he also loved french toast, cooked oatmeal, toast with butter, hard boiled egg....
at this stage all you can do is try different things and see what you baby likes..

DD has only just started to eat cereals - I think it was way too painful to crunch them on her sore gums - just had the 4 molars fully come thru!! But she loves porridge, toast and marmite or philadelphia, and she's almost jumping out of her chair to get her daily 1 prune and 1 apricot chopped up!! The sweet fruit HAS to be last tho or else she will refuse her ordinary stuff!! We are waiting on some allergy testing to come back for eggs - can't wait to give her eggy bread or scrambled or dippy eggs!! ... trial and error is the main part!
-
MINI ME - just a question. You said you are waiting for allergy testing results from egg - why was she tested? Did she have a reaction? I haven't given egg to Gus yet, so just curious. Toby (my 3 year old) LOVES egg and it's such an easy last minute lunch/dinner to do when you don't have anything prepared - wouldn't be good to be allergic to it!
-
Tobysmum - Artemis had itchy red spots/rash all over her head and face if I ate eggs whilst breastfeeding - so not sure if she's still sensitive or has grown out of it. She came back negative for egg whites, but the idiots forgot to test for the yolk!!! Here, they do a blood test, so my LO has to give blood again - last time it took 3 nurses and doctors to get a vein up on her arm :'( but she was soooo good and didn't cry at all - even when her hand was turning blue!
I agree with you that an egg allergy is VERY limiting (although could always be worse and be dairy and wheat allergy!! ::) ) So I'm looking forward to a quick fix for lunches for Artemis if she comes back negative. ;D

My ds#2 loves french toast too - I must be really weird tho - we have ours without the cinnamon and stuff and with tomato sauce on it! :P Have never tried sweet french toast! He also loves cereal (we have 1 day of weetbix, 1 of rice bubbles and 1 of cheerio's) then usually toast with honey or vegemite. If I am having "soldier eggs" he LOVES to steal a bit of my toast with egg on it. Same if I am having poached eggs on toast. Ditto pancakes. Ditto if I am having tin spagetti or baked beans on toast - he is my little garbage disposal! Older brother is 4.5 and still won't try eggs or pancakes. ::)

Mel, I found I introduced so many foods to Rory at that cheeky age where she'd 'steal' from the bench while I was cooking!
It's a fun approach. Before she realises, she's tried salmon.

LOL ... DD yesterday had little smoked salmon strips on philadelphia on taost ... she won't touch smoked chicken or smoked tukey, but gobbled down the smoked salmon!!! Talk about having rich tastes!! She'd probably have caviar too if I let it in the house!! ;D
-
Melsy - we have our french toast with tomato ketchup too!! The thought of having it sweet sounds a bit weird to me?!
I haven't given lo french toast yet but I think I will try it at the weekend

;D good on her! She'll need a good paying job to keep it up!
