Title: Wake to sleep?
Post by: scraggles on September 25, 2009, 14:22:02 pm
I'm thinking of trying w2s to try to ward off DD's early waking (5:30 am) and I have a few questions.  What is the best way to do this; she is still swaddled, so I can't rub her hands, etc.  Should I just put the paci back in her mouth, stroke her hair?  About how many nights in a row should I plan on trying this?  Also, what time should I go in, 4:30?  5:00?  Occasionally she wakes at 4:30 for a feed, so that might throw it a bit off.
TIA

I've had to w2s about 3 times now with my 8 month old.  I always went in exactly one hour before.  She was always swaddled when I did it and I'd usually put the pacifier in her mouth and rub her head a little and then take the pacifier out.  Just be careful to watch how she reacts when you start and go from there.  Some babies are harder to rouse and others are easier.  You want to half wake her not completely wake her.  I always did it 3 nights in a row and it worked like a charm.
Good Luck

Thank you for the advice!  I went in last night at 4:45 am, put in and pulled out soother, stroked hair and it worked, today she woke up at 6 am (yay!)  So I'm wondering, if I do it again tonight, should I go in at 4:45 again, or adjust the time for a 6 am wake up?

Go at 4:45 again tonight and then next night and then she should adjust nicely.
