So, tomorrow I'm taking Spencer's crib apart to replace some brackets and I'm going convert it into a daybed for her nap and see how she does in a BGB!!!
Her crib is one of the recalled storkcraft ones, and although I know I installed everything properly and I check it over all the time, I just hate the thought of her sleeping in it with the drop side on. My other option is to permanently affix the dropside on (they are sending a lovely little plastic clip thingy that is supposed to do the trick ::))
I have completely emptied her room, only the dresser remains and I secured it to the wall today so it can't tip.
She's a great sleeper, hardly even moves in her sleep. Am I asking for trouble doing this? I'm going to see how the nap goes and go from there. I really hope she doesn't even realize she can get out of bed, it is pretty dark in there though so will she be able to get back in if she crawls out?
Please tell me it will all work out ;D

You are so brave! I will be following closely as I'm thinking of trasitioning my LO at 17 months. You can do it! :) Please keep us updated!
-
Defiantly not! It totally depends on the child and I think you have an idea of what they'd be like. My dd went into BGB at 18 months, was absolutely fine and never tried to get out and still doesn't at 3.5! I think she could have easily gone in earlier with the same result. My ds is 26 months and still in cot/grobag as not convinced he'll stay in a bed and don't want to be taking the chance with a new baby due in 8 weeks!
-
Heidi, you're nuts! ;)
No sorry just joking! If you feel she might transition easily you're probably right and there's no other way of finding out than to try it. Good luck! :-*
-
A friend of mine recently transitioned with her LO and kept her in her grobag. If yours is still in one may help to make the change less dramatic and also make it less likely she'll get out of the bed.
-
Not nuts at all Heidi!! In fact if Miss Spencer does a smooth transition I am going to go for it with it Maeve even if her cot climbing antics have ceased for the meantime!
Given that she is a good sleeper I think she'll do great! Maybe just need to keep a really close eye from getting into bed until she is asleep as I imagine that would be the time where they could work out the 'hah I can get out of this thing' quicker. If Maeve wakes in the night she generally can settle herself, just turns over and go back to sleep and I think that would happen regardless of where she's sleeping.
Following along...
Lots of luck today x

OMG!! Good luck Heidi! I can not imagine taking the side from DS's cot, he'd be out in a second! Not so much on purpose as just rolling right out in his sleep. He still goes from one end of the cot to the other, side to side, all over. I go in to peek on him before I go to bed and he's bunched up in one end of the cot and then when I get him in the morning he's in a ball at the other end!!! We think he will be in there until he's at least 3 !!!!!!!!!!
Good luck, will be waiting to hear how it goes for you!!

I'm with you on that one Mashi. My LO moves around his cot all night. We have a TV/video monitor so I can see what he's up to. He can change ends at least 5 or 6 times a night - even though he tends to sleep well throughout. I think if we move him by 3 we'll be doing well. Hee hee. As long as he's out by school. :)
-
Thanks guys :-* I have to laugh at your description Mashi...sounds just like how Masyn sleeps! Spencer, however active she is while awake, sleeps like a brick. I've had to sleep in a bed with her a few times when travelling and she does not move - at all!!! I have actually shaken her awake in the middle of the night for fear she was dead she sleeps that soundly.
Now, with the sleeping bag...I was worried that if she has it on and gets out of bed it might make it hard for her to get back in...but then it is a big sleep cue, so maybe we'll play it by ear.
I have the side off now, just have to put on the new brackets and the toddler bed side panel and in a few hours I'll report back on how naptime goes. Hopefully she's not too mad that I changed her bed (I had to move it to the corner so I could put the fan behind it, she wasn't pleased :P) touchy kid!
Frankly, I'm more worried about how DH will take this, he hates change, so I didn't tell him I'm doing it and hoping all goes well with naptime!
Heidi :)
-
Looking forward to see how it goes!!
My DH is weird about things like that too....took forever to get him used to being in her cot after the moses basket and then moving out of our room. But I think its me does all of the the sleep training and NWs and will be the one with dealing with her getting up once she's in a BGB so its my decision in the end!
-
Mashi that is so funny...that's just how Amelia is, and that is precisely why she is still in her crib at nearly 3! She is ALL OVER the place, sideways, upside-down at least 4 or 5 times thruout the night...little bum up in the air, I've even seen her sit up with her eyes shut and then just tumble back over like a ragdoll. I even put her bumpers back in because she'd be whimpering in her sleep with a stuck arm, leg, ankle....
Reading along....good luck!!
-
Heidi,
I know what you mean abour being unsure about the sleeping bag but my friend decided if it meant her LO got out of bed and couldn't get back in then she'd re-think the sleeping bag. If though it meant that she didn't get out at all, which she didn't, then hoorah she'd cracked it. Definitely worked for her.
Best of luck.

Well, I put her down for her nap after about 5 hours of A time (I think...when I got her up this am, she was laying in bed grinning from ear to ear, so might have been up early!) She seemed quite pleased with her BGB, especially since it gave her easy access to her blanky.
I did use her sleeping bag and she snuggled right in just like when it was a crib. I have heard some "singing" from up there and I thought I heard foot steps, but I really think I'm imaging things and Masyn is being noisy so I can't really tell what I'm hearing.
For safety sake I peeled back the electrical tape that was covering the lights on her fan a bit, so she has a very teeny sliver of blue light in case she needs to get back in bed. Hopefully that doesn't keep her up!
Anne, I did the same with Masyn and put the bumper on her crib after she was about a year old...found her one day with both legs stuck through the rails, right up to the chubby thighs! She is now in a twin bed, and even then I find her with head, arms or legs hanging out and she's a tiny kid. I joke with my sister that she needs a king size bed to move around in.
Will post back once naptime is done!!!
-
Sounds like it's going well - how exciting :)

It sure is...a 2 hour nap!!! and I don't think she got out of bed, but if she did she was back in it when I got her up. Maybe what I thought was footsteps was her banging the headboard.
DH's reaction when he got home was "WHAT??? put that side back on NOW!!" and then told me I should have waited for the weekend, so he could "help" if it all went south. This from a man who in the past 16 months has only gotten up once for a NW when Masyn threw up...and all he did was sit with her and watch me clean it up ::) sure honey, like it makes a big difference. Besides, now if she got up at night, I can snuggle in the bed beside her instead of stuck on the cold floor ;D
Wish me luck for tonight!
-
Sounds like my DH! LOL at watching you cleaning up the vomit! Sounds like mine! Great 'helpers' eh?!!
How'd the night go?
-
Perfect! She protested a little when it was bedtime, but she usually does that. Was asleep right away, and not a peep all night! Haven't gotten her up yet...hopefully she is still in her bed.
-
Wow!! Go Spencer!!! (and her brave Mummy!!)
-
And she was in her bed when I got her up...still sleeping ;D. So proud of my "little" big girl!!! Now, I'm also trying to wean her off of the fan to a white noise CD, and the red glowing lights on her CD player didn't even keep her up. I really hope I'm not jinxing myself here.
-
Awh she's a wee star!! Well done to Spencer! You are a brave mummy Heidi!
-
Brave...or, well, nuts ;D Sheesh...and here I posted for support and it's all just going great (knock on wood!)
-
Great news! Your little girl sounds like she's not so little anymore :) they grow up so fast! Good for her - and you - for transitioning so well!
-
Nope, not so little at all...Masyn and I argue everyday over whether Spencer is a baby, toddler or a big girl. I think once we tackle potty training she'll qualify for true big girl status ;D
I'll have to get a pic of her in her "new" bed tomorrow, she gives me a cute grin now when I tuck her in bed, she's so proud of herself!
-
That is too cute!! Its lovely she's so proud of herself! Definately not a baby anymore!
So when will you tackle potty training!!?
-
I'm kind of torn between wanting to get it done early and waiting like I did with Masyn (she ended up training herself!) We did start using the potty for fun with her at 10 months though.
Spencer has been up early a few times and hasn't gotten out of bed...I don't think she really knows she can!!!
-
Wow, Heidi I am in awe! Happy for you that things are going so well with the BGB!
-
How cute that she doesn't realise she can get out! Although I think thats related to all the hard work you've put in to sleep training so she realises bed is for sleeping, not messing!
We've been toying with potty training for a while now, just practicing using it etc and she actually did a poo in it last week (was doing bare bum time and told me she was doing a poo and I managed to get her sitting in time). She's had a lot of the readiness signs for a while but I've been putting it off. Santa is bringing big girl pants (In the night garden ones which she'll love) so I might just go for it in January and see how we go. It seems like such a big step toward independence though, I think thats what puts me off!

:-* Thank you so much for those words...I sure wish I could hear that come out of DH's mouth!
I agree that PT is a big step to indepenence...and we may not have another, so I kinda want her to be my baby for alot longer, and that's the last baby thing to go!
Wow, Heidi I am in awe! Happy for you that things are going so well with the BGB!
I am too...of Spencer, my touchy little princess who is taking this all in stride!
-
So pleased it's going so well for you. Wishing continued success for both of you.
Is Spencer still in her sleeping bag then?
-
Yes, we are still using the sleeping bag...not sure if that is what is stopping her from climbing out though, but I'm going to keep using it until she does manage to figure out she can get out of bed!
-
Great to hear it's going so well! :D Lois also transitioned amazingly well. It took her about a month to figure out she could get out of the BGB, then we had a week or so of having to take her back and some messing around, and that was it, done! :) Hope it continues to go well for you :-*
-
Heidi, I know it's not the proper place to ask, but I know you'll see this here....what's Spencer's sleep routine like? Just looking for ideas as to why ours is going wonky suddenly...I've not had wonky sleep in over 6 months and it's the first time DS has stumped me!
-
Mashi, I'll PM you our routine! It's all gone to pot today though...she was up last night for the first time in 10 months!!! (I forogt to put her sleeping bag on) but she never got out of bed, and I just hopped in and snuggled with her for a bit.
Vicku - I'm so glad to hear how well Lois transitioned, I think I could handle a week of messing around now as opposed to when she's older!
