Title: What age to introduce snacks?
Post by: lotus_1023 on March 22, 2010, 00:09:16 am
My DD is 9 MO and just looking at the EASY routines for this age I noticed many have a morning or afternoon snack as well as the 3 solid meals. What age is this often best introduced, or what signs to look for that she would be ready for this? We're still just on 3 solid meals.

I'm by now means an expert, so anyone else chime in here.....we do 3 meals a day 1ish hour after DS's bottle when he wakes in the morning and after naps.  I was going to start snacks when I combined milk with a meal of solids, so there would be a long period between eats without a snack.  not sure when this is, maybe around 9mo?  have you looked at the sample solids schedules in the solid foods FAQ.  I haven't looked at them recently, but maybe I should.  HTH

Hey there, no expert here either, but I've been trying to do snacks with my 9.5 months old ds for a while, he usually has solids an hr after feeds & an hr after that I give him a snack, we are still limited in options & so far we do rice cakes, cheese & grapes.

I offered snacks when the daytime feeds were dropped i.e. at around 9 months ds dropped his 11am milk feed and I replaced it a snack and a drink of water.  At 10 1/2 months he dropped his 2.30/3pm milk feed and I gave a snack and drink of water then too.  He was then left with 2 milk feeds (am and pm), 3 meals and 1 or 2 snacks depending on naps, etc
