Hi,
I bought some yogurt especially for babies, it is marked on them "perfect for weaning" (muller brand)," 100% natural ingredients", BUT it has 5% of strawberries, blackcurrant and raspberry puree in it.
my lo is 8 months only, ad I know that the berries are not recomended yet, not before another month...
do you think it is safe to give them?
any ideas ladies?

I must confess my LO had berries from 6m and was fine ???
You could always do a skin test with the yoghurt before you feed it to her.

yeah, I gave my lo blueberries twice, the first time i didnt know it was a no-no and she loved them and all went well, the firts time they were steamed.... the 2nd time, they were not steamed and I was aware that berries are no-nos, but thought since the first time was fine , this should be fine.
and I did the skin test too, on her cheek... there was a small redness that disappeared after maybe half an hour or less. I gave her the berries with bananas and she was fine....
but i m still wondering about the yogurt tho... the thing is, there was no other optins... ALL the brands had berry fruits in them!!!! :S ...
it must be safe then! :S ....but will defo make the test... the 3rd time too....

In the UK they are ok from 6 months so I wouldnt have had a problem giving them at 8 months.

My 2 both had fresh blueberries quite young, fresh strawberries did give DS a rash on his face so he only had them again after 1 year old but neither have had any problems with cooked strawberries.

I gave my LO berries (blueberries, strawberries) from early on - I would go ahead without worrying.

You should be fine with the yogurt. It's actually fresh berries that they consider an allergenic food but once they've been cooked and processed to make the puree, it's no longer a concern.
My LO loooooves yogurt - messy but fun! ;)

Unless there are food allergies in your family I would not worry. My pedi. said any berries are fine for my 6 month old. BTW, I am pretty sure blueberries are not really 'berries.'

thank you ladies for your response :) my lo loves regular yogurt mixed with puree fruits ofcourse :) X

Hi all,
Can you share with me how to go about preparing such fruits like cherries, strawberries for babies? Can't they lick or eat it raw or must be cooked? e.g.: apple, i actually scrapped the fresh n serve it fresh for my little one. Or u recommend all fruits to be boiled or just rinse it with hot water?

if your lo is younger than 6 months then you need to boil them all. if he is older than you can give them fresh , peeled and finely grated. as for the berries, it depends what ur dr recommends, some say better not give them before lo is 1 yr old some say it s no issue. I prefer boiling them before giving them to lo.

It depends how old your lo is. If your lo is over 6 months you could just wash and cut the strawberries, cherries in half/quarters and let them eat them as finger food. You could also cook them and puree them if you prefer.

Thks! He is now 6.5mths. Do u guys use blender or manually mash it?
-
if you ve been blending and your lo is fine with it, then you can start manual mashing and see how he takes it.
things have to really be free of hard lump for him not to gag.

Just curious as to where you heard this? I am in the UK and went to a weaning class with my health visitor before I weaned DD (which I did at 5m in the hope she would bf less :P) and we were never told anything of the sort, just to be careful with the general hygiene, i.e. washing fruit. And I sterilised bowls/utensils til DD was around 8m (by which point she was picking things off the floor and eating them ::)) Seems other places in the world have far more detailed guidelines...
Thanks :)

I actually read that in the weaning book of GF :) but as you said, different countries do it in different ways :)
