I have been buying a big tub of plain yogurt and freezing portions in baby food tubs (they are airtight). I can find no explanation for this, but some of the servings are creamy with a bit of whey liquid and some are more broken up with the whey all throughout. Honestly it looks curdled, but smells and tastes fine. Though, of course, plain yogurt is a bit sour tasting anyway. The stuff is out of the fridge for really only 10 minutes while I divide out the servings and then straight into the freezer. I defrost them in the fridge and they are in there for about 24 hours (I put tomorrow's in when I make today's). Does this happen to anyone else?

Many dairy products do this when freezing - they just dont freeze well. I know for instance sour cream is not to be frozen unless you are going to be using it for something where the appearance does not matter, like cooking - but even then sometimes it still keeps separated a bit when thawed and mixed. Your yogurt is not spoiled or gone off, it just does not freeze well.

I am not sure of the answer...but I do know that when you freeze milk with higher fat content (2% etc...) it separates and sometimes seems curdled and in fact tastes quite bad.
Many years of living in an area that is below 0 most of the winter has taught me to always bring in the milk from the car. For this reason I have avoided freezing milk.
I have gotten some yogurt from the store that is kind of what you are saying (water part) and I gave it to DS. He ate it and I did not think much of it.
Hope someone can help you out more

That's what I thought, that it was just separating. Weird that only some of the servings of the same tub of yogurt will do it. Maybe they just have more whey. I always mix with fruit puree, and DS doesn't seem to notice or care. Good to know I'm not poisoning my child :)
