I've just started resettling my DS when he wakes at night because it was getting ridiculous, (5-6 times) and I made the decision to start by feeding him once before midnight when he wakes, and between then and his morning wake up, a minimum of 4 hrs after his pre-midnight feed. (does that make sense) I don't feel ready to cut out his night feeds alltogether, I feel he still needs two, and he's 18 weeks old and I'm of the understanding that he's going through a developmental growth spurt.
He's currently on a 3hr easy and I will start moving him to a 4hr one this week.
My question is around the second feed of the night. If he's waking and I'm resettling him after his midnight feeds, and then I feed him at say 4am, does all my hard work of resettling him go to waste? Does he get confused? I'm absolutely exhausted, its been 2 weeks of this and I can't handle anymore.
Last night he woke at 2am, I resettled after 10mins, he woke at 2.30 (resettled), 3am(resettled), 3.20 and I fed him.. I didn't have the enrgy to resettle again.
I don't PU/PD, he doesnt like it, he screams more, I shhh/rub his belly (he sleeps on his back mostly) and it generally tends to work.
Also, how long is this supposed to take before he learns?
With thanks and droopy eyes....... ??? :-[

Hi there, frankly at this stage I would just feed him and resettle. If he keeps waking then it may not be just hunger and you'll need to suspect a routine issue. At his age he doesn't get confused, if he's hungry you feed him and he goes back to sleep. If he's not hungry but wakes and can't work out how to get back to sleep, you resettle him and give him the help he needs. It's fine.
You may find improvement when you move to the 4 hr EASY. Keep us posted.

Thanks Wendy, I suspect a 4hr easy will do the trick too, I just find that whenever we have outings/visitors etc. our routine gets slightly thrown out. So hard to have a life and meet his needs too. I'm sure we'll find the balance somewhere soon. Will keep you posted.
