yup, still no sleep from Finn.
I have HAD IT! i cant physically cope anymore. Im two stone over weight living off caffeine drinks, im so tired i crashed my car (thankfully no Finn in it) i can barely play with finn.
There is no pattern to the night wakening except tht it happens EVERY night.
We have tweaked naps, playtimes, bath times, used homopathic remedies, nightlights, co-sleeping, wrapped up tight, left loose with no covers, warmer, colder EVERYTHING.
and all i get told by docs is "some kids never sttn"
F**K OFF. Kids need sleep. Finn is cranky because he is EXHAUSTED not because he is cranky. on the rare nights he only wakenings once or twice he is a different child the next day.
If this was an adult he would have been sent to a sleep clinic by now.
WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?
-
Have you had his ears checked lately? Dream med in case it's pain?
No chance of a sleep clinic where you are? (None here in the States. :()

there is a lady who does one but its mainly for kids who dont want to go to bed or wont go to sleep. He LOVES his bed. all you have to is say "time for bed" and he is up the stairs in his room.
Dr tomorrow to check his ears.
-
Does he have trouble breathing at night perhaps? Has he been checked for sleep apnea? Just a thought.
-
ohhhh you poor thing!!! hugs.
number one: you are doing nothing wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you really need a break NOW! time to call for reinforcements, charge groceries to your credit card so you can pay for babysitter, get your partner to take a sick day or 2 or get your mum/MIL over. i understand if you've got no help, i've got none either so when i have days like you are, i make hubby come home. another idea: people like me are expensive but i used to work a bit like supernanny, i'd come stay with you for a few weeks to give you a break and help you get the kid(s) back on track whatever their problem was working 24/7. is that an option? i was based in london but went wherever. i'd assume not, i wish i could afford a supernanny to sort out jj too, lol!!!
i think the first thing you have to do is get some sleep. there is nooo way you can tackle big sleep problems on no sleep. you are the first priority right now as your stress and frustration (which you totally cant help, i get it!) is feeding Finn. what i suggest (which is not very BW, sorry but in my experience, important) is that you throw BW out the window for a few days or a week and tank up on sleep, both of you, using whatever methods necessary (co-sleeping, feeding, prams whatever) then when you're both well-rested get back to sleep training. OT mums and OT babies take twice as long to train i reckon.
re the actual wakings, i dont have anything super helpful to say without detailed info. i assume you have white noise/music, have tried fans and humidifiers. i would suggest perhaps maybe its medical, get adenoids checked? i disagree with dr. lots of kids wake during the night until they're 3 but only once. how old is FInn?
when you go into him what do you do? for one child i went in and patted and setup magic words (like "it's sleepytime, buddy. have a good sleep" or whatever) then we could go in and just say the words, then we coudl stand in the doorway and say the words, and then the ultimate goal, we coudl say the words over the monitor so that mum didnt have to get up, in fact she barely woke. most kids STTN in their own time i'm afraid. if they dont do it "on schedule" in my exp there's not many ways to get them to do it. i see it like a developmental milestone... i'm so sorry!!! probably really not helping.... hugs.

he has been checked for sleep apnea and ruled out.
:( he is exhausted I am exhausted.
AHHHHHHH.
All I want for Christmas is SLEEP
-
So sorry you're still going thru this! :(
Tried pain meds?
-
Deb have tried every pain med under the sun.
went to the GP and literally cried with exhaustion. Told him i could not do this any longer and we needed help asap. He agreed and also said Finns development delay was more than likely related to the no sleep. He is writing to a pedatrician but gave me a anti histimane that makes Finn very drowsy.
First night finn slept from 9:30 to six am!! :)
second night :( up nearly every hour although he has thrown up that evening.
Today VERY GRUMPY not eating great but been in bed since 7 and only been in once. also slept through my neighbour drilling our new doors!
fingers crossed

More hugs from me xxxx
Have you thought about trying an osteopath? Alex didn't sttn at all, by 13mo I was desperate and someone on here suggested a cranial osteopath. The osteo said there was lots of congestion and tension in the tissues around his head and ears, and he was uncomfortable laying down for long periods. I don't really understand how it all works, but after 3 sessions he was sttn! I told a friend who has a 3yo who had never sttn either. She decided to try, and after 5 sessions he was sttn almost every night. Just a thought
Big hugs again, sleep deprivation is awful xxxxx
-
OHHHHH thank you will try that next. he was back at the natural doctor today to get another tonic more for sleep this time so lets cross our fingers. Thanks to the sleep deprivation I have a severe dependancy on redbull and coffee!! ;)
-
I'm not an expert on that but my 4mo usually gets pumped breast milk for DF.
We tried formula for a week and he woke up every 45 min. those nights!
After switching back to breast milk it took him 1 night to sttn again.
Maybe something he is eating isn't good for him?
Food alergies?
Gook luck!!!!
-
tried that mymay1. We have already ruled out dairy and have removed wheat from his diet. Still no sttn though.
Drugs doc gave us dont seem to be working.
-
Hi irishprettykitty. Hugs to you.
I have not read through all the replies - maybe someone already suggested this - but my lo had terrible gas when I drink coffee (decaf or regular). Not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but may be worth a try....
-
Jenmom he was very windy when he was on wheat but that decreased dramatically when we took that out of his diet.
We have appt at peds clinic on his 2nd bday so fingers crossed they can point us in right direction.

THREE NIGHTS OF STTTN
The lovely doc who fixed Finns reflux prescribed Melatonin. ITS WORKED.
Apparently his arcadian rhythm was off and a few months on this should have it SORTED!! WOOHOO .
Will keep you posted girlies.
Thank you for all your support
-
Oh, yay, something is helping!
Do be careful with the melatonin for long-term use; my jar says not to use it for more than 2 weeks consecutively - might not hurt to double-check with doctor. But for getting my kids to sleep in the first place, it's great for times when they're wound up (good for travel, in other words :)) or time changes.
Thanks for the update, and long may the STTN continue!

two weeks really?
Doc here says he has to be on it a few months... think i will be checking up on that when i next see her.
we have run out and the next batch isnt in yet and nights sleep has been disturbed again.
lets hope they get it in soon
