Title: on what schedule should be 11 months old?
Post by: MandM on December 07, 2010, 11:22:41 am
I'm new to EASY and BW.
right now he's routine was pretty flexible, more less looked like that:
7  wake up and BF
9  breakfast
11 nap (30 mins/w BF)
3 or 4 nap (30 mins/ w BF)
7 bath
8 bed time w/BF (wakes up several times in the night for BF)

I started now PU/PD and I'm not giving him breast in order to go sleep but now he takes only one 30 mins nap at 12:30 (sometimes later). what to do?

can anyone give me a good routine for 11 months old to stick to, pls?

thanks for all your help.
Anna

Hi welcome to the boards!

So, you've conquered the feed to sleep prop. Can you say that your baby goes to sleep with out any help, totally on his own?

How long has it been since you stopped feeding him to sleep?

Is breakfast the only solid meal he is having? If so then I would start introducing lunch and dinner too, even morning and afternoon tea...when did you start solids? How has he taken to them?

Sorry for all the questions! Just want to get a better idea of what's happening so I can help you better.

have a look at these samples...http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=164253.0

He's almost considered a toddler and

I have to say, its going to be hard to adjust his routine because he has had 11 months of doing it one way, but you can make changes with determination and consistency and it will make like better for everyone!

anyway - let me know the answers and we'll get you started

hugs

I still need to be in the room for him to fall asleep. I've been using PD for 3 nights now so I'm just at the beginning I think. One time I sang to him, the other I was holding my hand on him till he fell asleep... it's pretty hard not to do anything bcs he wants my presence... when I put him to the crib after a bed time routine he plays there for a little bit while I'm sitting next but not paying attention at him but then he wants me. what should I do when he calls me but not crying yet - should I react or wait till he starts crying?

I'm still feeding him at night concerned about the noise - he wakes up for it more less every 2 hours...
he eats also lunch and dinner - I introduced solids few months ago and he takes it well.
I've looked at the sample routines already but I don't know if he should have one or two naps, and what time should they be?

thanks for all your help,
Anna

Hey Anna

What you're doing is totally fine as you are just at the beginning. I think you can stay in the room with him for a bit longer. Over a period of a few days or a week start to try and take your hand away and just give some verbal assurances, shhing or softly say its nap time now, its nap time now...whatever works for you just keep it consistent. Then over a few more days, once he can settle with just verbal assurances (you may still need to touch him every so often, just go with what he needs but always keep in mind that you are trying to wean him of your presence) start to move further away from the cot until eventually all you need to do is stand at the door and eventually you can say nap time and leave the room. At that point you may have to do Walk in Walk out (WIWO) if he get hysterical, thats so he knows you are still there if he needs you. And you may need to keep doing PD.

i think if he is calling but not crying you should leave him. When.if he starts crying hard you can do WIWO with PD. Try not to pick him up the idea is that most of the settling is done in the cot. Obviously, if he gets overworked you have to pick him up...do what you feel is right.

I would also start to offer morning and afternoon snacks to his food intake. He's going to start to need more calories and hopefully this will help him sleep through the night. You can try bulking out his yoghurt or something with baby rice in the evening...

Its between 10 months at 18 months that LOs start o move towards 1 nap a day. I think perhaps at this point your should still aim for 2 naps until you are getting at least one long 2 hour or more nap in the middle of the day. You are going to have to play it by ear. But if you are still getting these short naps then hes going to need at least 2 or 3 of them...

He does not need to feed at night at this age...however, its up to you as to how many issues you take on at once. If it were me I only have the strength to deal with one thing at a time. So, have a think about your own energy levles. You may decide to just focus on getting him to become an independent sleeper before tackling nights or you may choose to do it all at the same time.

So, just 3 months ago we weaned our 12 month old son from feeding at night. He was down to one feed a night, eating lots of solids and having 3 BFs in the day - the night feed was a habit not a necessity. I could not do it myself as if I went in he would wonder why he couldn't feed as the breasts were right there in front of him and I worried that I would give in. We waited until DH had some time off...we had 4 days. The first night when DS woke DH went in a settled him, it took quite a while, the next night was better, then next better and so on. He did really well for 4 nights on the last two nights he just needed a hand on his back and was back to sleep within 5-10 mins. The night 5 and 6 DH was back at work so it was me going in. The first night it took me 2 hours!!! The next night it took me 20 mins...the next night he slept all the way through!!!

It can be done, it takes patience, and consistency.

You are doing so well, really really well...keep me posted.

Is he a big crier? There's not much you can do about it. And really, most people are understanding. The thing is it will be short term and after that he will sleep through the whole night. If it makes you feel better you could let them know what you are about to start and apologise in advance. In the end, you've got two choices, keep going the way you have been or do something about it and forget about the neighbours. x

Hi MandM,

Up until a few weeks ago I was having a similar problem with my 10 month old who wouldnt sleep for more than 30mins and my problem turned out to be our "A" times where too long and he was overtired. I reduced ours right down to 3hrs and in just 2 weeks our routine has totally changed and he is now having 2 naps a day, 1 x 2hr & 1 x 1hr and i can hardly believe it.  Have you tried reducing your "A" times as I notice they are all 4hrs+ and you seem to be having constant 30min naps which they say are normally o/t naps?

You should try it and see what happens as I can't believe something so simple has made such a difference to us.  We stopped following the typical 7-7 routine a few weeks back as it wasn't working for us so we do 10-10.30 now instead and so far it's working much better.

Kieran is 10 months + 5 days old, his current "A" times are 3hrs/3hrs/4-4.5hrs and our day looks like this.....

8.45am -           Wake up
6/7oz Milk & back to sleep for 1hr

9.45am -            Wake up
                        Breakfast & Fruit Juice
                        Playtime

12.45pm -          4/5oz Milk & Nap for 2hrs

2.45pm -            Wake up
                        Lunch & Fruit Juice
                        Playtime

5.45pm -           4/5oz Milk & Nap for 1hr

6.45pm -           Wake up
                       Dinner & Fruit Juice
                       Bath & Tv Time

10.30pm -         6/7oz Milk & Bed

We are still having 2 random night wakenings as up until last week he was still having 2 x 8oz nightfeeds which we stopped cold turkey when he turned 10 months as we felt they where just habit as he eats plenty during the day so now when he wakes I just use shh/pat until he goes back over as he was too old for pu/pd as lifting him just made him worse, so hopefully he will start getting the message that the milk is gone and he will start sleeping right through but it is hard not to give in when they are screaming at 2am but you have to be cruel to be kind as it's helping them to get a better nights sleep.
