Title: Late Evening Waking
Post by: tdd on December 13, 2010, 06:10:12 am
Have a 3mth old, who up until 3 weeks ago, had a pretty good routine. Her routine consists of the following, give or take 20mins. Ive staretd at night since thats where the issue is.
5:30pm - E
5:45 - A
6:15 - S
7:15 - A  (Playtime and a bath)
8:00- E
8:30 - S
11:00pm - Dream Feed
5:30am - Feed
8:30 - Wake for day. (3 hr easy through day, typically with 45min to 1.5 naps)

So all seemed to be going very well. We switched the 8:00pm feed right before her bedtime, as we found she would not take it earlier at 7:30, but very well after her bath. Our issue is that she goes down at 8:00pm, but now gets up at 9:00pm, and wants to stay awake until almost 11:00. We will pat her down/hold her, but she goes back into the crib and wakes. She clearly wants to play during this time. Not sure what changed to get the sudden 9:00pm wakeup, but would really like her to go back to her old ways.
Any advice? Ive considered wake to sleep, but not sure if that will do the trick.

Hi there, we will need to see the whole routine to see what is going on.  It sounds like perhaps she needs more A time.

You can always try W2S but if it's a routine issue it's not likely to fix it.  Always worth a shot to see if it's habitual though.

Hi there, I think it might be too much day sleep not enough A time.  Although her first A time is long, she has a good nap to compensate.

Have you looked at the sample routines?  Normally at this age they are in bed for the night about 12 hrs after waking, and then one or two feeds (or more during GS!) in the night.
