Title: Habitual Wakings and Timing
Post by: Raquelita 1234 on April 18, 2011, 04:10:19 am
If my baby is waking at the same time within 30 minutes each night could this still be habitual? The post on habitual wakings says it needs to be at an exact time but I don't know how exact that needs to be. My guess is it might be habitual with bedtime varying slightely (either he is put down a bit late or he takes a few minutes longer than usual to fall asleep) he might wake at a slightely different time since his sleep cycles would be ending at different times. But is it not related to sleep cycles but only the time at night? Sorry, don't know if that made sense!

Thanks!

They could be.  What is your routine like?  Can you post it in EAS format?

If you have habitual wakings, you can try wake to sleep.

I was planning on doing wake to sleep, I just didn't want to do it for nothing if the wakings were not actually habitual :)

ROUTINE consists of two naps that are 1.5-2 hours long and around 11.5-12 hours of night time sleep (7:30-7:30) with a waking at 3:30, give or take 30 minutes.

Sorry I've been slow to respond. My internet has been down.

7:30 wake
10:00-11:30 nap
2:30-4:30 nap
7:30/8:00 bed (depends on naps)

Waking around 3:30 am

You have a lot of sleep there.  Some LOs start into a pattern that prepares them for the 2-1 transition at this age.  I would limit the morning nap to 1 hour.  Also, I am wondering if you can bump some A times up a bit.  Your LO may need a slight jump in A times at this age.

Sorry to tag onto your post but my situation is very similar - with DS waking between 3am-3:30am each night, and needing to shh/pat him 2-3 times over about 45mins and then he sleeps until wake up.

DS is 5 months, only feeding in DF.  Our EAS looks like:

E- 6:30 (doesnt usually have a lot to drink 90-120mls)
A-7-8:30
S- 8:30-10:30 (usually does full 2hrs, at worst does 1.5)

E- 10:30 (150mls)
A- 11-12:30 (incls having some solids)
S- 12:30- 2:30 (often have to shh/pat after 1h15 - usually goes for 1.5hrs, sometimes 2hrs)

E- 2:30 (150-180mls)
A 3-4:30
S 4:30-5 (usually 30mins, sometimes 45mins)

A 5-6:30 (imcls solids and bath time)
E: 6:30 (180mls; can be quite fussy at this feed but wont take it as a split feed anymore)
S:7pm

DF at 10:30

These 3am/3:30am moanings seem to be getting worse - he settles fairly well with pat/shhh, but i dont know if he is using that as a prop to get back to sleep.  If we just leave most times he then starts to get lloudder and wakes up fully.  Its almost as if I knw i am going to be going back and forth b/w 3-4am, and then he will sleep again til about 5am, stir, but puts himself back straight away.

i am just not sure about w2s since there isnt an exact time.  suggestions/thoughts???

Thanks
