My DS is seven weeks old and my second child. I have a 2-year old as well. I have worked on tanking him up and spreading the feeds 3 hours apart. He is still waking twice and Tracey had said that babies should be able to go five hours by this age. My eldest did it at around six weeks. The routine is on a good day. We struggle at times with naps of course. He goes to sleep usually on his own unless OT. I do some APOP as I can't sleep train a lot with a busy toddler.
7:30 eat 3 oz.
8:30-10 sleep
10-10:30 A
10:30 eat 3.5 oz.
11:15-1 sleep
1:30 eat 4 oz.
2:30-4 sleep
4:30 eat 4 oz.
6 sleep (40 min.)
7 eat 2 oz. Then bath, then top up another 2 oz.
8ish sleep
11 DF 4 oz.
He wakes between 2-2:30 and eats 3-4 oz. And he wakes at 5-5:30 for another feed and takes 2-4 oz.

Any input would be great. Is he still too young? Shold I just wait it out??

Is he BF or FF?

I pump breastmilk for his bottles, but he also has a bottle of formula for the DF. Sometimes if I can only pump three oz. I top it off with formula. I would say he is 85+ percent breastmilk.

Only asking because B milk is digested so much faster so some babies need more feeds for longer than FF babies. In saying that I am no expert! :P Hopefully some other mums can give you some more ideas/comments. Personally, I would keep feeding for a bit longer because he is so little, but that is just me.

My dd is also the same age and we are trying a 3 hour schedule like yours, but sometimes she eats at 2.5 hrs during the day. We don't do a dream feed. My DH and I don't feel comfy puting a bottle in dd's mouth while she is asleep because she tends to aspirate the milk some times. Instead, we wake for her to wake and eat. This usually happened sometime between 11 and 12 anyway. By doing the math, our babes seem to be getting about the same amount of milk in a 24 hour period. Although, my dd is purely formula fed. At night, on a good night, she wakes around 3:30 to eat and then again at 6-7. However, that hasn't happened in over a week for her and I'm wondering if she is going through/ finishing up the 6 week growth spurt. Lately, she has been waking at 2-3, and 4-5. Last night was the first night she seemed a little back on track. She has never gone more that 4.5 hours without a feed, except once which I believe was a fluke as she too 6 ounces at 7 and DH woke her to eat at 12. It was a hot day and I'm sure she was a little dehydrated.
My pedi says we are lucky that she sleeps 3.5 to 4 hour stretches at this point. But, I'm with you, Tracy says she can go 5 hours at this point, so why isn't she? This is only our 5th day doing easy so I think I need to give her more time to adjust, and I'm wondering if a growth spurt has anything to do with it.
I just wanted to say, you're not alone.
Also, dd weighs about 10 pounds right now. People who practice easy or not tell me at 8 weeks to 12 weeks is when they start to hold a little bit more and sleep longer stretches.
After looking at your schedule, it has given me some ideas:
I think I need to work on getting dd going 3 hr stretches during the day. She hits the afternoon and then tends to go every 2.5 hours, but only takes 2 ounces and is sometimes hungry again an hour and a half later when it is time for her to nap. It kind of messes with the schedule, but I hate holding out a hungry baby. My theory though is that she thinks she's hungry and probably is a little, but after 2 ounces realizes she wasn't that hungry.
Again, you're not alone and according to my pedi, we are the lucky ones that our babes sleep that long of stretches at this age.

:)Thanks ladies! I think that you are right about him being small and I am glad to hear that a pedi says that what our babes are doing is good for their age. Many of my friends say it's usually between 8-12 weeks when they can go 5-6 hours. I was just wondering as it was so different with my first. Thanks again. I'll let you know when that magical day comes.

Heather, I think that is one of the frustrating things about using the easy method...it promotes doing all this stuff during the day so your Lo will sleep through the night, even at this age. I think we have to remind ourselves the reality: they are tiny with tiny stomachs and thus we will be really lucky if they sleep through the night at this stage.

And...all babies are so different, some may STTN from a young age, but wake during the night later on...others just take longer to make that progress, but when they do they have less NW. I think your LO sounds like he is thriving and you are clearly doing a wonderful job :)

Just a quick update...if I can get 4 oz. into him for the DF, he goes until 3 and then doesn't wake again until 6:30 a.m. and even goes back to sleep for an hour or more after the 6:30 waking because I treat it like a NW. I will continue to keep you posted.

Great Progress :)
