Hi All,
PLEASE HELP.
My son Jude is 4 months old. He is happy on his 4hour routine, he weighs 15lb and is breast fed, with one formula bottle at his dream feed at 11pm.
He gets up at 7am, feeds then sleeps at 9am for between 40mins to 1.5 hours. He feeds again at 11am, sleeps at 1pm fpor again 40mins to 1.5 hourse. He then feeds again at 3pm then has a 45min sleep at 4:40/5pm. we feed at 6pm then bath at 6:30 then feed again at 7pm then bed after this. He wont take a dummie and we dont use any props to sleep, it normally takes 10mins for him to drop off.
Jude has never slept through the night, usually waking at around 2/3am for a feed. However recently he is waking well before his dream feed somtimes at 9:30 and is really upset, however he only takes 3oz max.... hes then awake at 1, 3, 4, 5, and from 5pm he can be awake until 6:30 when he often drops off. When he wakes he is just chatting especially from 4am, so theres little i can do, however im getting so little sleep and the knock on is that Jude is so tired in the morning it throws the day out completely.
In the last 2 days i have given him some carrot mush which he loves at his 11am and 6pm feeds, as of yet this has made no difference.
Any ideas on what could be troubling him?
Thanks

I'm having the same problem with my DD, who's 16 weeks (see below). She's gone from two feeds a night to waking every 90 minutes or so, isn't really hungry but is just, well, awake. I wonder, given that our babies are a similar age and doing similar things, if it's developmental?
I'm just as baffled as you so I can't really help but you're definitely not alone.

Hi, yes i somtimes shorten his activity time, it depends on his signals, he is often tired before he should be then we get in a difficult cycle of being out of the 4 hour routine. However his naps are usually over an hour, if he does wake i have tried pick up put down and this does work but it hasnt extened the sleep time.
I settle him with a little quiet time, close the curtains then just lay him down and leave him to it. He tends to be off after 10mins. his sleep pattenrs in the day havent really changed in the past few weeks.
Do you think its not enough sleep in the nday rather than food related?
Thanks for your reply.

I had sudden NW with my LO at the same age. I read (various baby sites) about 4 month regression, it seems that NW is very common at this age even after a long period of sttn. I read that the regression is as good as ever lasting and nothing can be done. If you find information like that IGNORE IT.
Keep going with your EASY and using the methods, getting advice about naps and A times etc and be strong in the night with the shush pat (or however you sooth) and it will stop. I almost created a NF habit when he wasn't even hungry so I had to nip it in the bud. Several weeks later a similar thing happened again and I had a full hour and a half of shush pat and PU/PD to get him back to sleep. It stopped again. I'm left with EW but that's different.
I guarantee that in our case it was not food related because my LO doesn't even fuss for his first feed of the day. He fusses to get out of bed and put somewhere where he can play but isn't bothered by milk for about half and hour and even then doesn't necessarily take a full bottle. I know lots of people wean at this age to try to stop the NWs but I've also read lots of posts (various sites not just BW) saying weaning didn't help.
You are not alone, and you will get through it x

My LO is 17 wks and exactly the same! He usually goes to bed at 7pm and sleeps until 4/5am then back down until 8am but recently has started with irratic wakings and terrible screams! I do feed each time I go to him in the night but sometimes he is just awake and self soothes back to sleep, maybe i'm making a problem for myself but sssh patt and pupd seems to work him up massively!
